Former President Donald Trump doesn't want a jury in the defamation trial brought by his rape accuser to hear his infamous "grab 'em by the ****" remarks.

 

In court filings on Thursday, Trump's lawyers argued that the 2005 "Access Hollywood" tape, in which a then-newlywed Trump boasted about groping women, shouldn't be admitted as evidence in an upcoming defamation trial brought by Elle advice columnist E. Jean Carroll. 

 

Carroll sued Trump for defamation in 2019 after he publicly denied her claim that she was raped by him in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the mid-1990s.

 

Carroll filed a second lawsuit for claims of defamation and rape last year — both lawsuits have April trial dates and may end up being tried together. The request to exclude the "Access Hollywood" tape was made in the first, defamation-only case.

 

Trump's lawyers argued in court filings Thursday that the "Access Hollywood" tape "must be precluded"  from trial because it is "irrelevant and highly prejudicial."

Va. Republican Calls Pete Buttigieg 'Pete Buttplug'

 

A small-town Virginia vice mayor is in hot water after he called gay former South Bend mayor and current Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg a homophobic insult during a Facebook Live video the vice mayor was hosting.

 

Waynesboro vice mayor Jim Wood discussed the recent train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, which could have been a potential environmental catastrophe, during his February 15 show, when he made an offensive remark, the Augusta Free Press reports.

 

“Look at Ohio right now at this train derailment,” Wood said. “You know the staff that ol’ Pete Buttplug or whatever his name is, is telling everybody, you know, don’t pay attention to that over there, that’s no big deal, oh wait a minute, that’s Trump’s fault.”

 

Wood isn't the first to make the homophobic comment over Buttigieg's name.

 

Conservatives blame Buttigieg for the train derailment, saying he should have reacted more quickly, while Buttigieg point to the rollback of train brake standards during Donald Trump’s presidency.

 

Wood has a history of saying hateful things and later dismissing them as unrelated jokes.

 

For example, last October, when then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul was attacked in the couple’s San Francisco Home, Wood espoused a false and bigoted conspiracy theory as the true story behind the incident.

 

Wood said on November 2 in another video that the attack was a “domestic dispute” committed by “a male prostitute and advocate for Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ,” according to Augusta Free Press.

 

Wood said, “Both in their skivvies, and both had a hammer. Nothing to see here. Huh? How about that? Yeah. Yeah. Funny how that works.”

 

Waynesboro Mayor Lana Williams told local media that she was aware of the remarks and that she had counseled Wood, the News Leader reports.

 

“I am deeply concerned,” she said.

DeSantis’s office says he will boycott NBC, MSNBC over Andrea Mitchell question on Black history

 

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will boycott media appearances on NBC News and MSNBC shows, according to his press team, until one of the network’s star reporters apologizes for a question she posed about the governor’s education policies.

 

“There will be no consideration of anything related to NBC Universal or its affiliates until and at least Andrea Mitchell corrects the blatant lie she made about the governor,” DeSantis’s press secretary, Bryan Griffin, said in an email to the network that he posted on Twitter.

 

The “lie” that the DeSantis camp is protesting is a question Mitchell put to Vice President Harris last week, in which she asked: “What does Governor Ron DeSantis not know about Black history and the Black experience when he says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren?” 

 

Mitchell later said her questioning was “imprecise” but did not explicitly apologize. The Hill has reached out to NBC for further comment.
