This may turn out to be a battle of attrition.

While the Chicago Bears are a dismall 1-5 at home this year, the Redskins have yet to get a road victory. Philsophers have often wondered what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. Well today, we are going to find out what happens when a stoppable force meets a movable object.

The Redskins find themselves 5-7, currently sitting at the top of the NFC East. With just four games left, they have a real shot to win the division, but the rest of the NFC East is still very much in the hunt. To keep their hopes alive, they need an elusive road win today.

There are a few things in the Redskins advantage. For starters, the Bears have the same record, but much slimmer playoff hopes, which gives them less to play for. Also, there's the Bears run defense, which is 31st in yards allowed per attempt (4.8) and 29th in yards allowed per game (127.9). This could be the game to bring back the Alfred Morris of old.

History is also on the Redskins side. They have won the last five games against the Bears, which is their longest active streak against any NFL team. In the two teams' last match up at Soldier Field, the Redskins won 17-14. And, if you want to go waaaaay back, it is 73 years to the day that the Redskins beat the Bears 14-6 in the 1942 Championship Game.

Redskins Inactives:

o No. 10 QB Robert Griffin III

o No. 12 WR Andre Roberts

o No. 20 S Jeron Johnson

o No. 25 RB Chris Thompson

o No. 56 LB Perry Riley, Jr.

o No. 74 G Arie Kouandjio

o No. 87 TE Je’Ron Hamm

No. 54 Mason Foster is expected to start in place of Riley at linebacker.

1:09 PM - The offense comes out strong. Completeing passes, converting third downs, using Morris effectively. Pretty, pretty good.

1:13 PM - Jordan Reed just refused to be tackled . That was a great effort to fight for the end zone. Even if he's ruled down just shy, that was a heck of an effort.

1:16 PM - Jordan Reed's touchdown is taken away, but the silver lining is it sets up Alfred Morris' first rushing touchdown of the season. 7-0

1:23 PM - Jay Cutler just got force fed a little Pot Roast on that play.

1:42 PM - Kirk Cousins with a rushing touchdown! Man, they are making this look easy. 14-0

1:53 PM - Trent Murphy with a sack, forced fumble and recovery!

2:19 PM - Chicago showing some signs of life at the end of the second quarter. Jay Cutler put together a few impressive pass plays to cut the Redskins' lead in half. 14-7

14-7

2:39 PM - Ryan Kerrigan with the third sack of the day. That is crucial to keep the Bears from building on the momentum they had going into the half.

2:52 PM - After a bit of clock management unplesantness, Kirk Cousins connects with Jordan Reed for a touchdown. 21-7

3:03 PM - The Bears shred up the Redskins interior on that drive. They once again reduce the Redskins' lead to seven. 21-14

3:10 PM - That was a very ill-advised throw by Cousins at a very unfortunate time.

3:12 PM - And the Bears waste no time capitalizing on the turnover. In a game this close, you can't make those sorts of mistakes. 21-21

3:41 PM - I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but I'm starting to get a "wheels coming off of the bus" vibe to this final quarter.

3:51 PM - That was a clusterf@#$ of a play, but Matt Jones somehow comes up with a big third down catch that could have easily been intercepted or fumbled.

3:55 PM - The Redskins picked a bad time to give up a 51-yard catch.

4:01 PM - No good! The Redskins dodge a bullet there.

4:04 PM - They did it! They did it! By god, they won on the road! 24-21

Was listening to Craig Hoffman from 980, he's not sure about the team's mindset coming into this game, some players he said have gotten over Monday's game but some not so much and it might have effected them preparing this week.

John Keim said this is the type of loss in recent years that took the air out of the balloon and in turn set off a long losing streak, citing the Vikings loss last year, he didn't have a good feel for how it would go this time outside of saying there is better leadership this year and that should help but mentally its a tough loss for these guys to overcome.

They could be right.

Or it could be just the "same 'ol Redskins" type of thinking.

We'll know soon. Not from if they win or lose, but if they lose, how do they lose?

I know mindset gets minimized at times, and obviously its not the operative point in a game but as for having an impact -- just about every coach and player says it does.   Will see.

Big game for Kirk, too -- pressure is on.

The problem is they spent the off-season prepping for an offense that featured 2 TE and a strong running game. Then they lost 2 TEs in training camp, 2 OL, and they have kindof been trying to do the same stuff.

They need to scrap the 2 TE package entirely and just go 3 wide and figure out different ways to run the ball.

The question is. Can they do that this late in the season with a first time QB, 4 new OL, and a rookie RB.

Easier said than done.

Losing last week to the Boys is not out of the ordinary when it comes to that rivalry. If the culture is really changing then we win this game. If we lose, especially if we are blown out. Its the same old Redskins. This might be Grudens biggest game yet.

Every game is Grudens biggest game.

if players are still hung up on the loss last week, they need to get the hell over it. it's just another loss to the many we've had over the years. cant go back in time and change anything. football is a game of short memory.

today is the day to start a new turn to the playoffs. handle your business today on the field and be 100% present. be competent. execute. have some heart and pride. having our heads in last week wont change anything.

i think this is a very winnable game for us. winnng on the road hasnt been our thing, but any damn given Sunday.
