Trooper Who Did Not Report Duggar Abuse Listed 'Preschools,' 'Puberty' As Online Interests

The Arkansas state trooper who reportedly gave the young Josh Duggar a “very stern talk” once had a Yahoo profile in which he detailed his own sexual interest in children, according to a 2009 court document.

The Pulaski County, Arkansas, “risk assessment” document, which is publicly available online and was posted by Jezebel on Wednesday, detailed the criminal history of the former officer, Joe Hutchens, who is now serving a 56-year sentence on child porn charges.

When Hutchens was still working as a trooper in 2006, Jim Bob Duggar approached him with the information that the teenaged Josh had sexually molested someone, according to a police report obtained by InTouch. Josh had, in fact, "forcibly fondled" five underage girls, some of whom were his sisters. Hutchens did not officially report the teen’s actions but instead gave him a “very stern talk,” the report said.

Hutchens now claims that the elder Duggar did not tell him the whole story. In a prison interview reported by InTouch, Hutchens said that both Jim Bob and Josh told him that Josh had molested only one victim.

Hutchens added that he regrets his actions (or lack thereof). “I did what I thought was right and obviously it wasn’t,” he said. “If I had to do it over again, I would have told him immediately I am going to call the hotline and contacted the trooper that worked those cases and have a full report made. I thought I could handle it myself."

Also, "Only one victim"? WTF is that about?

Question: There are still a whole bunch of kids in that house, right? Has anyone investigated if they are safe?

When you start putting absolutes on a the acts of a child molester, you begin to run into trouble. It's not usually "one time with one person."

Josh has a fourth kid of his own coming any day now. I would think they would start there first.

On the flip side, when you put absolutes on a person and remove the idea that redemption and reformation is possible, you also can run into trouble.

That's true, but when you let someone's religious sect decide what constitutes redemption and reformation, you can also run into trouble.

I am seriously leery of these biblical patriarchy and quiverfull groups.   They seem far more manipulative and cult-like than sincerely religious, at least to me.   And I suspect (but can't prove) that this stuff leads to all sorts of abusive behaviors, not just child abuse.

Redemption and reformation is for God to handle, not me. We don't pardon criminals because they were baptized.

And I'm not saying we should. David Berkowitz became a evangelical in prison. He's not asking for special release because of it, nor should he.

Its not unusual for a person to want justice. Its part of being made in God's image. But anyway, you don't think criminals can turn over a new leaf and reform themselves? I thought that was the whole purpose of prisons (reformatories?) was to really reform the person?

Okay....let's put the Duggar guy in prison and let him reform. I'm fine with that.

(Actually, I'm not really as mad at him as I am everyone who covered up his crimes for the last decade or so).

Same here.   He was a stupid kid doing stupid and icky things similar to those that a lot of repressed and curious kids do.  Not excusing it, but cutting him some slack for being 14, sexually repressed and raised in a weird as hell home.

The allegations (which should be more than allegations right since he admitted to them, right?) took place when Josh Duggar was 14. Maybe I'm naive..but even a 14yo sexually repressed boy knows that it's wrong to fondle people when they are sleeping. Or at least, i want to think so.

What I can't figure out is why his parents are NOT (edit..sorry) being investigated for the cover up or why the others he fondled (that weren't his sisters) haven't spoken out. That is, unless they are part of that cult too.

Every time I see the title of this thread about how Josh Duggar admits to making mistakes as a child molester, I wonder what he would have done differently so he would have been a perfect child molester.

“The real issue is that juvenile records should be protected”

“[Our daughters] were more victimized by the tabloids [digging up this story] the last few weeks, than what happened to them 12-years ago.”

Well I doubt the fuss would be as energetic if they were otherwise ordinary.

price of fame

is it normal for someone that fondled some sleeping girls as a teen to be hounded like this as a adult?

I have no sympathy for him, I'm not that good a Christian

Hey, they are just female, they don't matter nearly as much as our first born son.

I watched a very short bit of them when they were talking about reporting to the now-convicted pedophile police officer.  They said Josh made a full disclosure about his activities.

I feel sorry for the females in that family.
