GoSkins0721
The woman brought many a smile to my face. Rest in Peace, Joan. You'll be missed. "Comedy legend Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81. She went into cardiac arrest on Aug. 28, and had been on life support at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital. "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends," her daughter Melissa Rivers said. "My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother." http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2014/09/04/joan-rivers-dead-at-81/

G.A.C.O.L.B.
RIP. She's been a mainstay in the entertainment world my entire life. And I think, unfortunately, a lot of us younger folks just know her for the whole fashion bit and don't know how funny she was, or even that she was a standup comedian. Forehead
I guess I missed the boat on her. Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry she passed, but I mostly remember her for things like Hollywood Squares or snipping about people's outfits on the red carpet. I gather she was a riot earlier on. Huge inspiration to all of us standups out there, even if there were plenty of things about her style I didn't like. She had a level of fearlessness that very few comedians will ever have. Also it's a damn shame because she had as much life in her as any 81 year old woman could possibly have in them. Hell she was just about to go back on tour, my friend was so looking forward to seeing her out here in November.
LeesburgSkinFan
When I found out that she was 81 at her death, I think she looked better than what an 81 year old woman looks like. I give her credit for trying.

grego
Heard her on the stern show recently. All I can say is, I hope I'm that funny and quick- witted at 81.
artmonkforHOF
For most celebrity death threads on this board, I'd say the jokes are in bad taste, but really, that's what Joan would have wanted. She truely wanted to make people laugh & she was great at it. A few years ago, I went to a casino in Niagara falls & the GF wanted to see a show. Somehow we ended up in the wrong theatre where Joan was doing her standup act. After hearing the crowd roar with laughter as soon as we got in, we stayed for one joke & where both laughing hysterically, GF grabbed my arm & pulled me to a pair of open seats, then she said we're staying. One of the funniest comedy sets I've ever heard, live or recorded classic HBO specials RIP Joan, you will be missed but not forgotten.
ksun247
Funny girl. Some didn't understand her humor, but she was truly funny. Even made fun of herself. Gotta love her, cause she did what she did to make folks laugh. Not always classy, but funny. She will be missed. R.I.P.

Kosher Ham
You can't be funny if you can't make fun of yourself, or accept others making fun of you. She was vain but made fun of it, and made fun of all kinds of things about herself. The only topic that she stopped doing ( I think ) was about her deceased husband...which is understandable. RIP Joan.
JCB
I will never forget that she had Gwar (!!!) on her show back in the day. That struck me as a simply awesome convergence of two excellently bizarre American subcultures. RIP!
The 12th Commandment
I watched her and Johnny so many times this is the image I think of her by. it's too bad they had their falling out (Carson could be a real prick) but I'm happy she got on the show again here lately. She was a funny lady, RIP.

Lombardi's_kid_brother
I'm not sure anyone has ever gone back and forth from really funny to uncomfortably unfunny like she did. Often in the same set. Sometimes, she was a total riot. Sometimes, you just wanted her to stop talking. If you are under 30, it's probably impossible to understand just how huge she was in the 80s. Carson's show was the end all and be all of entertainment, and she was bigger than Carson for a while.
Duckus
You give her credit for all the cosmetic surgery that wound up killing her? Do we know it was cosmetic? All I had heard was that it was outpatient facility and minor throat surgery. Never heard what it actually was. With her, I would assume cosmetic but ya never know. EvilMonkeyBoy
It wasn't cosmetic. It was endoscopic surgery - a procedure on her vocal chords. No, let me explain. Every Friday evening after work Mr. Burns undergoes a series of medical treatments designed to cheat death for another week. First Mr. Burns' chiropractors perform a slight spinal adjustment. Then a team of doctors administer his eye drops, pain killers, and a VOCAL CORD SCRAPING.
