mjah Posted May 13, 2011 Share Posted May 13, 2011 We are supposed to wholeheartedly believe every story abut a Rep politician being gay or a Christian minister/priest abusing children (not saying we shouldn't), but we should doubt this story? Hmm. Two of these things are not like the other. It's easy to believe the Rep politician is a closet gay guy, or the priest a child abuser, when they confess to it publicly. Which has been happening a lot over the past few years. It's a bit harder to believe any old allegation when there's no confession or apology in the offering. You're left with the "smoke = fire" equivalency, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I wouldn't automatically believe that Bin Laden himself had a big ol' porn stash any more than I'd believe than any randomly selected individual priest has a big ol' porn stash. (Did he? Maybe. Probably.) But Bin Laden won't be calling a press conference to address the existence of his porn collection, which makes any old allegation awfully easy to levy. As I happily understand it, the language center of his brain was largely blown away by gunfire and he'd have to read his notes with just one eye. So apparently the alternative is to just go ahead and believe whatever you're told, by the very people who have the most to gain from discrediting him. And this isn't a truther/birther situation because so far, there's literally zero proof either way. Just a story. Not exactly the same thing as the now-familiar image of a Rep politician asking his constituency's forgiveness for being himself. As opposed to apologizing to everyone for being a huge hypocrite. I hope it's true, by the way. I hope Osama was distributing thousands of copies of Buns Of The Magnificent Seven from his "mansion." I hope the courtyard of that place was so big because they had entire shipping containers of Vivid DVDs delivered for distribution to every country from Yemen to Indonesia. See? These people didn't die for someone's cause, which in a perverted sort of way you could at least understand if he really believed it. (You can understand it and still hate it and think it's crazy.)
