  1. Saw this yesterday and had to find an explanation: Confirmed by Wil Wheaton: http://www.reddit.com/r/scifi/comments/1dx9y7/riker_sits_down_always_with_the_leg_over_the/c9urrkoHere is the video embedded: A related video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4Z3SYf6_Q8
  2. In case anyone was wondering what Mike Tyson thinks about Suarez: http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1422795/mike-tyson-on-luis-suarez:-%27he-bit-someone,-it-happens%27-?cc=5901
  3. Hopefully it just hits the tsunami-damaged nuclear plant where everything is already radioactive - no harm no foul. War in Korea would be way worse for China than for any other country (other than the Koreas of course). They are the only country that shares a border with North Korea, and there are already a lot of ethnic Koreans living on the China side of that border. They don't want to deal with millions of Korean refugees. And a strong South Korean economy is also good for China. It reinforces the supply chain between China, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan that is building a majority of the world's electronics. It moves capital and engineering knowledge into that supply chain. Having a large destabilizing war in east Asia would hurt the Chinese economy significantly. China wants to avoid war much more than we do (as illustrated by China staying out of every war that we have gotten ourselves involved in over the past few decades).
  4. Can doctors figure out what Adrian Peterson's knee is made of and then transplant that into the knee of every other professional athlete?
  5. They didn't move to Florida until after they were famous youth tennis players (Venus was 10 and Serena was 9): http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/tennis/features/williams/timeline/Their sister was murdered by a gang member on the streets of Compton: http://articles.latimes.com/2003/sep/15/local/me-williams15 Their childhood was scary close to the Crips, but c-walking has become basically mainstream, and while it wasn't great sportsmanship, it's stupid to try to think that she had LA gangs in mind when she did her little dance. And to keep this thread on topic, here's some more gangsta dance moves:
  6. Or that "tax" means something different in the AIA than it does in Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the Constitution. What do you mean by "doesn't work?" Are you saying that it doesn't work because 100% of people don't have car insurance? Isn't it working if 90% of people have car insurance? Or if more people have car insurance than there would be if there wasn't a law? Just because we don't prevent 100% of murders doesn't mean that the laws against murder aren't working.

  8. The league-wide field goal percentage this year is 44.3%, so if John Wall's passes only result in a made basket 43.9% of the time, I would call that normal shooting rather than especially poor shooting.http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2012.html
  9. I don't get the sense that he has ruled out veteran free agents. His blog post on the firing seems to recognize the problem of too much youth' date=' and he explicitly cites free agency as an option:[i'] The simple facts are this – we knew we would be in a tough rebuilding process; we knew we had over indexed on young players with 8 of our 15 roster spots being taken by first and second year players .We also knew this lack of experience would be compounded by an absolute lack of contact during the NBA lockout during last off season. We couldn’t provide any coaching or mentoring to young players during the summer and with the shortened and compressed schedule – there would be a lack of true practice time during the season with 18 back to back games. * * * We know we have to implement a system that complements the talent we have – you heard yesterday talk about “tempo and pace”; and “length, and depth and athleticism”. I also think it is important for the team to internalize its own strengths and weaknesses; play to its strength and mitigate much of the lack of experience we have as a very young team. This falls under the category of ” keeping it simpler and more efficient as to game plans”. We are continuing to rebuild; I am sure our roster will be changing as we monitor and assess where we are; I am sure that we will add to our team and subtract from our team via trades- via the next draft – via free agency – via buy outs. We will use all the tools available to us to improve. [/i] http://www.tedstake.com/
  10. Sign Cousins. Draft unibrow. Hire John Calipari to coach John Wall's senior year? Final Four baby!
  11. Scott Norwood should be buying Billy Cundiff a few beers.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_Right_%28Buffalo_Bills%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_left f90_d8VUOUE
  12. Watching the replays of the Aldo KO, I am even more impressed. Barboza's KO was really just a wild kick that Etim didn't see coming, but that is going to miss 90% of the time. If it had happened in the first round, when both fighters were fresh, Etim would have just taken a step back or ducked under it, but fatigue probably played a factor. Etim really shouldn't have been caught like that, and he deserves to watch that over and over in highlights. Getting knocked out on your feet makes it the better highlight certainly. But Aldo's knee is more impressive in my eyes. He pushed free of Mendes's grip and feinted with his left hand, knowing that Mendes would be worried about the left hand because he just let it go. Mendes predictably ducked under the left hand and exposed himself for the devastating knee. Aldo was probably thinking through that plan during the entire time he was working along the fence. When he pulled his left hand free, he had Mendes set up for the kill. That was the work of a stone cold assassin. Both KOs were so sudden, and so powerful. One second the fight is in a lull, and the next second it is over. Great fights in a great venue.
  13. Maybe they should cut down the nets. It's good to see that they are still competing. Hopefully they show the same kind of effort against tougher competition.
  14. He selected these players to play on a team with Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, and Caron Butler. When Gilbert figuratively shot the team in the foot, we had to start all over. We had a team built to support the "big three," and now our team is completely different. Half of our moves have been done to acquire expiring contracts and clear cap room, rather than to pick up the best players. This is not a team designed to win now. It is a team designed to have the cap space available to acquire a big free agent in the next two years. That is our reality, created by the Gilbert fiasco.
  15. I'm not surprised by the whining, but I do think all the calls for EG's head and the criticism of Leonsis misses the point. There's basically nothing that could be done (outside of an even stupider reach for a free agent that would have put us in an even worse position for the future) to make us much better this year.We suck. It's fine to whine about it. But I guess all I'm saying is that I don't really expect firing EG or firing Flip to make us any better this year.
  16. Actually, the Wizards beat the Bulls playoff team with Hinrich etc. That was our only playoff series win in like 30 years or something. All this woe-is-me Wizards are the worst ever whining is this thread is ridiculous. We are very bad now. But it's not because something is fundamentally wrong with this franchise or even with EG. Sure, it's probably time to hire a new GM and a new coach, but none of that is really going to fix the team right now. Our situation right now ties directly into Gilbert's knees and Gilbert's guns. Nobody could have planned for all of that. Agent Zero giveth and Agent Zero taketh away. We're rebuilding now, and we're going to suck for a while. And there's just not that much we can do about it. I think our energy would be better spent in trying to get Ted to change the name back to Bullets.
  17. The problem is that the Wizards are just so bad right now, so it's hard to even sell John Wall to a big-name free agent. We don't have the NBA hype machine running for us like the Clippers did with Blake Griffin. And of course they only ended up with Paul because Godfather Stern gave his blessing.Hopefully we can at least get to be respectable this year. And if not, hopefully we get lucky in the lottery. It's going to take some luck, but I believe that when the situation does come around, Leonsis will be able to make the big free agent moves we need. Chauncey Billups (#3), Rasheed Wallace (#4), and Rip Hamilton (#7). They all came via free agency, but the Pistons are the only championship team to successfully collect all of their top players that way.I really think it's all about one good lotto pick, and then everyone else can be obtained through free agency. Everything in the draft after the lottery picks are a total crapshoot.
  18. But there is a chicken-and-egg problem. You can't acquire LeBron unless you have already drafted Wade. You can't acquire Shaq unless you have already drafted Wade. You can't acquire Shaq unless you have already drafted Kobe. You can't acquire Gasol unless you have already drafted Kobe. You can't acquire Garnett and Allen unless you have already drafted Pierce. You can't acquire Boozer and Hamilton unless you already drafted Rose. If you build only through free agency, you can build a team as good as Arenas, Butler, and Jamison. You can build a team as good as Amare, Carmelo and Chandler. But almost every championship team has been built around one really good draft pick who can attract big free agents to play with him. You need one really good draft pick to be the cornerstone, and then you can go out and sign free agents. Maybe John Wall is that guy, maybe not. But if he isn't that guy, I think it makes sense to look to the draft to try to find that guy.
  19. There are probably ten times more Kentucky fans than Clipper fans.
