just that he works hard and gives us speed and power. We will probably have hte fastest front line in the league now, so thats a great thing. We needed this type of speed for years.

But he wont be scoring goals

Because he rarely gambles or attacks the area which for a striker that is an athletic marvel it's a bloody embarrassment. His finishing can also be rather shambolic too since his composure with the ball in those situations is very erratic. 16 million?

Also, the more I'm analyzing the move, the more I'm liking the Welbeck signing (cue GHH ridicule).

I don't need to add anything.

You'll see with your own eyes soon enough the mediocrity Wenger has just MASSIVELY overspent on that doesn't improve Arsenal on what they had at all save for another body.

Credit to Woodward. He's stitched Arsenal up and right on this one.

.....

And I agree, Di Maria is clearly a better player than both of GHH's scouse boys, although Sterling has the makings of being top top quality player.

Over the duration of 2014 to date he is WELL on his way to that and better than anything else in the League. Now he's adding goals to his game on a regular basis it's frightening just how good the 19 year old will become. His progress since Christmas has been phenomenal.

Anyone that would play the as yet totally unproven in the English game Di Maria over Sterling right here, right now on current form is foolish to be REAL kind.

Yes, 'cause Wenger, over the years is in the habit of panic buying. Even short on defenders, he won't buy or overpay for a player. Ever since he splashed for Jose Reyes and Jeffers, he's been very reticent to do it.

He's more of an opportunistic buyer a la Cazorla, Sanchez, Ozil. Guys that find themselves out of favor or club's in financial straits. United was willing to unload Welbeck.

Argentina is kicking Germany's ass in Dusseldorf 4-1 with 15 minutes remaining.

Why did Monaco want to unload him in the first place? Guardian Football Weekly podcast wasn't very high on him (and Cavani). Don't understand because Falcao scores at an amazing clip.

Regardless, good signing for Utd. Don't know if it's "attracting talent" or "home of last resort for very talented but unwanted players". If it's the latter, not a bad problem to have.

Financial fairplay, Monaco can't generate enough tickets and merchandises sales, and on top of that Rybolovlev has to pay €50 millions to the french league to keep his tax headquarters in Monaco.

He has health problems and he is still waiting for his monegasque passport.

Cost of divorce €3.3 billions !

Edit: 4-2 Argentina (auto goal Fernandez)

Bayern fan sent to me after asking about the connection between FC Bayern and Bavaria. I wanted to learn about the club closest to my roots.  Thought I'd share it.

I read your post more than 24h ago and I still find it difficult to give you a definite answer to your question . What is the connection of Bayern München to Bavaria? You can approach this question from many different angles and this answer is my very own personal take without any claim of absolute validity. Having said that, it definitely seems to me that I need to lay a little bit of groundwork first.

The Free State of Bavaria is roughly separated into two completely different cultural regions. The first one is Franconia (the northern half of Bavaria) and the second one is the traditional 'Bavaria' in the South. So we have the Franconians and the Bavarians who are culturally and historically completely different. There's even a sometimes amusing but at other times frightening dislike between those two cultural groups.

So when you ask what connection is there between Bayern München and the Franconians, and how they represent my people (I'm from Lower Franconia), then this is a completely different matter, than asking about the connection between Bayern München and the 'Upper Bavarians' with its capital Munich. Perhaps more interestingly than the pretty straightforward dislike between Middle Franconians and traditional Bavarians, is the fact that the traditional Bavarians itself, cannot even agree on the one 'truly Bavarian' football club, but more about that later.

By now it must have become clear, that it is very hard to establish a cultural connection between a football club and 'The Bavarians' in general, because the Free State of Bavaria itself is not a homogenous entity. There is not one truly Bavarian football club. Therefore it is only logical that Bavaria is not only divided by culture, but also by affiliation with one of the three traditional big football powerhouses in the Free State:

1. FC Nürnberg is widely regarded as 'The Franconian club' as well as a worker's club in the stile of Schalke04. They are also hugely popular among a lot of the elderly for their success in the 1950s and 1960s.

1860 München is widely regarded as the club, which emphasizes the most on preserving the traditional values of Upper and Lower Bavaria. They have a huge fanbase in the area and the local fans still consider themselves '#1 in Munich' even though I'd argue this is no longer the case since they won over a huge chunk of their fanbase during their dominant period in the 1960s.

FC Bayern München is the younger brother of 1860 München and in my interpretation, the answer to 1860 München's fixation on traditionalism. Where 1860 München strictly concentrated on homegrown players, Bayern München was much more liberal and open to foreigners and members of different ethnicities and believes from early on. In big cities across the world, there always evolve different social classes with different outlooks on the world. Bayern München was also the football club who maybe embraced the Jewish community like few others and as you can probably imagine, it led to a very sad and disturbing time in our club's history between '33 and '45 . Later on I'd argue Bayern München has become the answer to the metropolitan self-understanding of many inhabitants of Munich.

Still, to this day Munich is divided into red and blue. You could really write an entire book, or three, about this topic alone but I lack the time and knowledge to deliver it all to you.

However this doesn't answer the question, why many Bavarians outside of Munich, even people in Nürnberg, identify themselves with Bayern München and feel deeply connected to the club as well as to our motherland Bavaria as a whole. The answer lies in the last half-century of Bavarian history, what I like to call 'modern day Bavaria'. In the past, Bavaria was a rather poor and agricultural state, which slowly changed in the 1960s and was accelerated in the 1970s and 1980s. Henceforth, the economic development of the Federal State of Bavaria has overall been nothing but breathtaking, it appears as if there was one success story after another. The Bavarians would no longer be dependant on the support of the industrial Ruhr area to pay their bills, no, nowadays we have to support the people in the West with equalization payments instead.

At the same time in the late 1960s and even more so throughout the 1970s, FC Bayern München became hugely successful on the national as well as international venue, and continued doing so ever since. We all remember our first great team with players like Beckenbauer, Müller, Maier, Breitner, Hoeneß, Roth and Schwarzenbeck, who won the European Cup in '74, '75 & '76. As the Federal State of Bavaria thrived, so did Bayern München, whereas 1860 München and 1. FC Nürnberg both could no longer repeat the success of the past. FC Bayern München hence developed into the posterboy of Bavarian sports and the lovechild of many people who embraced that 'new Bavaria'. The club also developed an unparalleld self-understanding, open-mindedness and confidence, which resulted in unparalleled success on and off the pitch, which millions of people all over Germany, not only Bavaria, find appealing (or appaling clear.png ).

Still, Bayern München also tries to embrace the traditional aspect of being a Bavarian football club, by supporting charitable organizations in the region, by facing amateur clubs in Upper and Lower Bavaria during pre-season, by allowing the fans unparalleled and uncensored direct access to the stars during public training at Säbener Straße, by attending the annual Oktoberfest and so on. Still, 1860 München fans might argue that Bayern München's efforts are being tainted by commercialism and you cannot completely dispute that fact.

So we might not be the all Bavarian, white & blue Lions of 1860 München, but we are the metropolitan club of Munich which looks towards the world, but tries to keep Bavaria and it's flag at heart, as can be seen by looking at our club crest.

That's the best I can do. I hope there were bits and piece, which were of help to you.

Now that he is scoring on a more regular basis (If he would have actually shot the second one, it may have been the goal of the year), someone needs to sit Raheem down and show him how to properly celebrate. I don't understand the hand in front of the face thing. This is the only part of his game that isn't improving at a remarkable rate...

Ha ha j man. You're just gonna' LOVE Mario. He barely raises a smile when he scores.

He was asked after he signed why he doesn't celebrate goals?, to which he replied (paraphrasing) 'Doe's a postman celebrate everytime he delivers a letter? I'm just doing my job!'

'Just doing my job' ..... Yeah, this is a questionable character and right.

It's good to know Balotelli's enthusiasm and passion for scoring goals in front of the Kop ranks alongside my postie's enthusiasm and passion for delivering my mail..!!!

At least the cant attract world class players myth was put to rest. Another season outside of the CL could be another story but this year was no worry.

Seriously?

You WELL paid over the odds for Di Maria. A player NOBODY else was interested in, and got robbed blind by Madrid who knew Utd were desperate.

And it takes the last day o the window to get a loan signing who openly wanted to go to Madrid and courted them all summer long but they didn't want him. So he settled on Utd.

Over paying for a player nobody else wanted and another settling for you as his choice spurned him,

Yup, yuse are attracting Worldies alright.

Hail.

Add to that PSG's claim that Di Maria wanted to sign for them.

But for once PSG were neither stupid enough or near desperate enough to be held to absolute ransom by Madrid.

And Falcao's father adds to the Madrid snub:

If I may, Di Maria is great player and will probably be an upgrade over Mata (I guess he will be looking for a new team again). I think he (almost single-handedly) won the CL final against Atletico for Real. Would I like to have Angel on my team? Absolutely. Would I want to stop Sterling's fantastic progress to do it? Absolutely not. At this very moment, Sterling is coming into his own. Sterling is a proven player in the EPL. Di Maria should be successful in the league, but no one knows to what degree. Di Maria may be better today, but Sterling will be better for the next 5-10 years. If it is a debate (and it is a debate) I will take the younger option with more potential.

Well, our last outting was better than the blow out...LoL!

Unfortunately we still lost 1-0

Our team seriously outplayed their opponent, but simply could not capitalize on our many opportunities. Too many touches in scoring position, our forwards keep trying to get the perfect shot rather than taking the shot that's available.

The opposition goal came off an indirect kick in our box after one of our defenders fell in the box and tripped one of their players who was away from the ball but moving after it. The shot came from about the PK marker and went around the wall that fell apart as soon as the initial touch was made. My son had a full extension dive and got his hands on the ball but the ball was shot too hard and deflected in the goal just inside the post! Ugh!!!

It was so close that I thought he deflected it clear of the goal...but no.....

Frustrating to be sure.

In more happy news, he is REALLY loving his Select team, and is getting a lot of work as a keeper, so much more than "shoot at the keeper drills." They are even starting to teach him the basics of being a sweeper keeper which is fun to watch him play. He'd never be able to play sweeper keeper on his JV team because his defense simply isn't reliable.

Anyways, here's a nice shot of him in goal. This shot came in hard and he deflected it upward and then pounced on it. It was such a nice save that it earned him a "nice work keeper" from the opposition varsity coach which was pretty cool.

also, Sterling is just cheaper than Di Maria and you guys never really had a chance at him to begin with.

I told you United fans that Mata signing would look funny in the light. It only took 9 months.
