I like Kimbo's personality and hope he does well on the show. The catch will be if he has to fight his way on. He loses that one and it's time to call it a career.

the link said that none of the fighters have to compete to make it in the house

its only HW's next season and the 16 fighters chosen will be automatically placed in the house

part of me wonders just what kind of talent will be on the show though. the only other season they did HW's was season 2 when Rashad won, and the ones who got contracts from that season all dropped to LHW

I bet at least half the guys in the next TUF will drop down to LHW. I just found out today that Kimbo is on the show. I think it's a great career move to legitimize him. He's been training for about 2 years now, so he will have some skills and I'm sure he still has KO power. I hated the way EliteXC just took him off the street and threw him into headliners.

This TUF should be huge. Rampage is the most charismatic fighter in the game, and Rashad is definitely on the map after blasting Chuck like a Bobby Hull slap shot. They're both pissed at each other, and Kimbo will be there to supply the weed so they stop the black on black crime.

Gold.

Perplexing how a man who shrugs off so much punishment was so easily befuddled and dispatched by Mir. Anyone can have a bad night, I guess. I hope Frank beats Lesnar and gives Nog a rematch.
Somethings weird. How do you win after getting PILEDRIVEN ON YOUR ****ING HEAD???

Anyway:

, the most popular female fighter in mixed martial arts, said Friday that she is "very certain" she will sign a contract soon to fight for Strikeforce in August, and she expects her return to the cage to be a title fight against
.

:)

I wanna see Carano vs. that chick in SU's sig :ladiesman

Fabulous. So basically we'll have another suckfest full of whiny beyotches crying about missing their girlfriends, stubbing their toes, and choking on their mouth guards.

Maybe Kimbo WILL do well this upcoming season...

You submit the opponent.

Mir's a submission specialist. Did you watch his fights several years ago before his motorcycle crash?

When matched up against a novice in regards to submission grappling, it's not too difficult to see how Mir pulled that fight off.

Nono, I meant how did he not get knocked UNCONSCIOUS, or at least be dazed enough where he would get KTFO?

My scientific/expert opinion = hard head. haha! I agree though, quite remarkable to see when a guy doesn't get knocked out during something like that.

Don't forget about Fedor getting dropped on his head by Kevin Randleman only to come back and kimura him.

Also impressive but this was Bob Freaking Sapp. Not that he's better than Randleman but that he's so much bigger. He put all his weight into that piledriver and Nog went down in a real bad way. Fedor's the best but Nog shook off a tougher slam. It was surreal to see Frank Mir just dismantle him. I'm not trying to take anything away from Mir- on the contrary. He's amazing. I just didn't see Minotauro going down so easily.

I don't watch much MMA. Only a few things I know:

-Gina Carano is smokin' hot and a good fighter

-Dana White's an ass****

I think Nog's staph infection had more to do with that loss to Mir than Mir did. He was completely flat and slow. After watching the fight again with the element of surprise gone Mir did not look as good as my first impression.

Brock by GnP round 1

Interesting. I need to see it again now. Maybe it was the ease with which Nog got beat that fooled us. I remember being so impressed with Mir's boxing but I'll look for the fight and check it out again.

Whoever wins the Lesnar/Mir fight will make a big statement. Frank has a chance really prove something for the MMA purists and Lesnar has a chance to start a reign of terror. What's cool is nobody thinks it will get out of the 1st. :)

We are a big boxing guy, right? I'm interested to hear your take on it when you watch it again.

Going to run a search on the fight. Up until about 2004 I was a huge boxing guy. I couldn't tell you who's who beyond the "big" names mentioned in the Boxing thread. You guys keep me more updated than I deserve.

i wasn't that impressed with Mir's boxing, he used the exact same combination the entire fight.

i was more mystified as to why Nog kept getting hit with a combo everybody else in the arena saw coming.

he may have had a staph infection, but i think that fight was more indicative of the state that Nog's body is in. the amount of damage he took in the 4 beatings(CroCop, Bob Sapp, & 2x against Fedor) is more than most fighters take in a career.

he's 33 and looks 45, his reaction time is basically dead right now. in each of his UFC fights, he's been close to finished.

I think Nog is done competing at the highest level of the sport. Big Nog is one my 3 favorite fighters ever (2nd best HW of all-times imo) so i sincerely hope i'm wrong

So it is you and 99 that are the boxing guys? Good to hear you agree with me. I really think Mir started buying into all the hype from that fight and will be overconfident in his standup.

I love Nog too, so maybe I am just being a homer. I hope you are wrong though it is hard to argue with what you said about his reaction time in his recent fights.

Mir's boxing is good by MMA standards, but by any other standard it wouldn't be talked about at all. he has ok technique, and average handspeed for a HW, thats about it. i think the fact that he connected with the same combo against Nog is causing people to overrate Mir's standup a little bit.

he'll have the technical edge standing against Brock, but i think Brock's chin will be able to stand up to it, and his reflexes are much better than Nog's at this point so he'll have a better chance of avoiding the shots. Mir needs to watch out for Brock's knees in the clinch. in the couple of fights he's had in the UFC, Brock has used knees in the clinch effectively for someone relatively new to striking. he doubled over Heath Herring with a knee, and hit Randy with a couple of good knees from the clinch. Brandon Vera owned Mir with the clinch when they fought.

Brock will still dictate where this fight is fought. Mir himself has acknowledge there's no way he can stop Brock from taking him down. so it basically comes down to how much sub-defense has Brock learned since their first fight. Especially important are leg & ankle locks. if Brock can defend those with some success he'll win. He doesnt have much of a neck so i don't see him being guillotined or RNC'd, and Mir tryin to triangle Brock could lead to a Rampage/Arona moment. i also think Brock's strength will keep him from being armbarred

Let's face it, Big Nog's "boxing" has yet to be seen in the UFC. It's sloppy, slow and he has lost an alarming amount of exchanges on the feet.

Tim Sylvia beat the living ape**** out of perhaps one of the top 5 fighters of all time and top 2 in the division's history. Nog won, but he obviously left behind his boxing skills at Black House.

Mir smoked him with the hands, Herring almost put him away.

Hard to judge Mir's hands based on destroying Nog with them, as weird as it sounds. But he did look good. Clean, safe, effective striking without any answer.

I have to somewhat disagree with SU as far as Brock curling his way out of an armbar or having too much neck-girth to be choked out, although it's easy to see where you're coming from. Compare the amount of weight Mir can pull with both arms and his back to the weight Brock Lesnar can curl with one arm, all "Brock's a gorilla" comparisons aside, Mir wins that one. And the squeeze a guy like Mir can put on a neck is something I don't think any man can neck-flex out of if it's deep. I see Mir being able to sub Brock by choke or armlock more than any other outcome.

Although, I've caught the prediction-fail bug. Spring allergies.
