Consider he's probably going to war with North Korea; he's going to have to make a lot of those calls. Even though Bush wrongly started a war with Iraq; he did feel the pain, when meeting with soldiers. I don't think Trump sees our troops as nothing more than PR props to make him look good. Not that it matters, (and I don't know if this is true), but there are a lot of comments that Obama would have contacted the younger Kelly's wife rather than his parents as is protocol. So yea, his lies about former presidents not making calls is an outrageous lie, but the original sin here is the Trump literally failed to make the calls himself, for a week. During that week he had plenty of time to twitter fight with NFL players and Bob Corker, play several rounds of golf, and head to his hotel for dinner. Then he only acknowledged it when he got his pants pulled down about it on national TV. And instead of being a man (or even a decent human being, given the subject matter) and admitting that he should have spoken to them sooner but was planning on it very soon, he decided to make up a completely absurd, disgusting, and ignorant lie about Obama and pretty much EVERY other recent POTUS in order to cover his own worthless ass. And then on top of it, used that lie to not only cover his own ass but make himself sound like the better guy because at least HE was going to call at some point (unlike President Black Guy and those other losers) and he was going to write letters AND call so he was the bestest at it.
