I only found one game of cut ups for Jordan Magee, and I didn't think his reps were that good.  I definitely didn't see "most instinctive LBer in the class" or anything even remotely close to that.  I saw a lot of false steps and late keys in coverage, and I didn't see much of an ability to sift through and avoid trash, or get off/around blocks quick.  I want to give him the benefit of the doubt because of how athletic he is, and how good SF was at picking LBers, but I'm not sure this guy is good.

Little glimpse into what other teams are doing. Sounds like a cross between our “Commander tag” that Newmark talked about in his post-draft presser, and our “Commander Caucus” thing where the scouts and coaches are allowed to pound the table for one guy going into day 3

Emory Hunt had him as his #3 OLB (WLB). I think he’s a blitzer and a guy to develop in the mold of Luvu. I think we need a instinctive MLB prospect to develop.

”Strengths:
- Really good athlete, very twitched up prospect who has a lot
of good tools in his toolbox. Does an above average job in
scrapping across the formation in pursuit of the ball carrier.
- Plays with an aggressive mindset that yields itself to him
making a lot of big plays on both ends of defense. Has the
acceleration and the burst to chase the run going away.
- Does a good job of fighting through contact from blockers,
while working his way to the ball. Puts a lot of strain on
offenses because he can destroy leverage.
Areas of Improvement:
- While he works through blocks well, there’s room for him to
get better at taking them on. Has to get more consistent in
using his hands as a buffer between he and the lineman.
- Still has room to expand his game in zone coverage moving
forward.”

Evan Silvia’s Draft Grades:

[VoR look away]

https://establishtherun.com/silva-2024-nfc-draft-grades/

FWIW he said on twitter in response to someone that he doesn’t ever remember grading a Washington draft as highly

Washington Commanders

1 (2). LSU QB Jayden Daniels

2 (36). Illinois DT Jer’Zhan Newton

2 (50). Michigan CB Mike Sainristil

2 (53). Kansas State TE Ben Sinnott

3 (67). TCU OG Brandon Coleman

3 (100). Rice WR Luke McCaffrey

5 (139). Temple LB Jordan Magee

5 (161). Washington S Dominique Hampton

7 (222). Notre Dame EDGE Javontae Jean-Baptiste

Overview: Washington’s new regime knocked its initial picks out of the park, tabbing 2023’s NCAA leader in both yards per pass attempt (11.7) and yards per rushing attempt (8.4) at No. 2, then ending Newton’s mini-slide at 36. Newton was this draft’s second-best three-technique interior pass rusher behind Byron Murphy. The Commanders added a second-round pick (No. 53) by dropping from No. 40 to No. 50, then stole shutdown slot CB Sainristil and two-way TE Sinnott, a plus blocker with top-tier athleticism and hands. Extensively experienced at both left tackle and left guard, Coleman is ideally built at 6-foot-5, 316 with vine-like 35-inch arms and massive 10 ¾-inch hands. McCaffrey profiles as a plus-sized slot receiver at 6-foot-2, 198 with 4.46 speed. A lightweight linebacker at 6-foot-2, 232, Magee was extremely productive in college with 235 career tackles and eight sacks and is athletic enough to potentially develop into a pass-coverage asset. Rookie GM Adam Peters should be proud of his first haul.

Washington Grade: A-

Rest of the NFCE:

Dallas Grade: C

For a team long on roster needs, this was an acceptable if largely unremarkable draft haul.“

New York Grade: B

I’m estimating the G-Men got 4 ½ contributors from this draft, and two high-impact ones.”

Philadelphia Grade: A-

“Roseman has mastered the art of attacking immediate needs while staying committed to building for the future.“

His mustache looks like that of a 1970’s porn star?

The teams with more picks spent more draft capital?

Honestly this is a post which pissed me off.  This is a “can you see how smart I am to find a trend I’m not going to tell you my point so you can worship at my high intellect.”

Dude has turned into a class A scumbag.

Sorry man you’re just getting to the point where any old random media thing can trigger you and send you over the edge. That’s probably the least douchey and scumbaggy thing Sharp has ever posted lol. It’s literally just a visual way to chart what teams spent—in terms of round of draft pick and # of draft picks—on offense vs defense this year. And asking if there are any interesting trends that anyone sees. It’s literally just information with no editorializing and you’re losing your mind.

Haven't watched him yet.  Sucks that PFF took off their 2024 big board and already switched to 2025 because when there is a limited games to watch their write ups are helpful because they rate the play in every game and sometimes based on that I see if that one game might inflate or deflate the player if its one of their best or worst.

Mark Maske gave the Commanders the worse grade...WTF

Maske is a stone-cold buster. I hope he gets stuck in an elevator with David Tepper after a heavy Thai lunch.

I think Newton is definitely a better rusher than Murphy.  But I think Murphy is a better run defender at the PoA.  Murphy has legit 1 technique potential and played there many snaps and drew the doubles for Texas even though they had Sweat.  Newton is not a great 1 technique option, he'll get pushed back if we try and have him play there on run downs.  But he is a very good pursuit player in the run game, and he's a much more skilled and varied pass rusher.

Per the chart Maske gave Commanders an overall B minus grade.  Maske has worked for the Wash Post covering the NFL for a long long time.

I think as fans we can't get too positive or too negative with this new regime.  Most writers believe it will take two years to get the right players on this roster

to be competitive again.  Unless we catch lightning in a bottle.....you never know.

The Falcons... damn :ols:

I figured that was directly a result of the Penix pick, but looking at the rest of their draft, I can see the bad grades.  Rebuilt the D-line perhaps, but not much else?

That's not losing my mind.

And that is not me going over the edge.

If you want to see that, just post something from Thor.

I feel somewhat bad for Raheem Morris.  Somewhat.  I think they could have helped him a lot more.

Though, honestly, they should still win the NFC South.  Cousins, assuming he is recovered, is the best QB in that division and it's not close.  They have some weapons.  Defense is going to be an issue, but they might be able to play a "bend but don't break" conservative style of defense and get by.

But man, they could have had the best defensive player on the board and they took a QB who won't play for 2 years because they just paid Cousins $100m.

That's still such a "wow."

If you are arguing that Roseman had a stronger base to work from, I kind of get that argument. However, one can easily ask why they didn’t move back at certain spots to pick up more Day 3 picks this year to get more players in now to build that stronger base. It is especially disappointing given the consistent discovery of long term starters in Day 3 is what Peters is known for.

I heard this stupid argument from Keim that must have come from this FO that they didn’t want too many picks because it could cause issues with resigning that many guys to second contracts. That is 1) inherently arrogant because it assumes you are going to have an amazing hit rate and 2) shortsighted because if guys perform and you can’t keep them, you trade them for picks or get comp picks, which you can continuously recycle like how Howie has

I do think having too many picks in one round could present resigning issues, but I also think this team was historically low on talent and even good 6th and 7th round picks likely make the team over someone from last year.
