Chairman of DeSantis’ ‘Never Back Down’ PAC Backs Down, Resigning Days After CEO Left

The chairman of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “Never Back Down” SuperPAC has stepped down after several weeks of reports of internal turmoil within the organization.

Adam Laxalt has known DeSantis since they were roommates during the governor’s naval officer training, and had DeSantis’ support for his unsuccessful 2022 Nevada Senate campaign. Laxalt joined the PAC about a month after it was launched in early March of this year, controversially taking in millions of dollars that were originally raised for a state-level PAC for DeSantis’ gubernatorial re-election effort and then bolstering that with millions of dollars from GOP megadonors.

Laxalt’s involvement in the PAC was “widely seen as Mr. DeSantis and his wife seeking to have someone they trusted monitoring the activities of the well-funded group,” reported The New York Times’ Jonathan Swan, Shane Goldmacher, and Maggie Haberman — and Never Back Down has been a crucial part of Team DeSantis’ strategy, again attracting controversy for taking over the role of providing event planning and transportation services for the cash-strapped campaign.

Chris Jankowski, the PAC’s CEO, resigned on Nov. 22, issuing a statement saying that his differences with the other leaders of the group went “well beyond a difference of strategic opinion,” but not clarifying further.

At that time, Laxalt had seemed to intend to stay with the PAC, sending out an email to staff the evening of Jankowski’s resignation announcing that the chief operating officer Kristin Davidson would take over as CEO, and writing, “We look forward to hitting the ground running with all of you after the [Thanksgiving] holiday.”

But then, just over a week later, Laxalt was out the door as well.

DeSantis campaign blames its own super PAC for leaks, bad TV advertising

Tensions between Ron DeSantis’ struggling presidential campaign and his allied super PAC are boiling over, with the campaign losing confidence in Never Back Down’s leadership and ability to orchestrate a TV advertising campaign, according to two people close to the Florida governor.

The criticism comes amid mounting questions about the strength of DeSantis’ campaign, and that of Never Back Down. The super PAC has suffered two major departures over the last week, with the organization’s CEO, Chris Jankowski, and its chair, Adam Laxalt, stepping down.

Earlier this week, DeSantis campaign manager, James Uthmeier, wrote a memo to donors in which he praised Never Back Down for its field operation and urged the group to focus on that going forward. But he implicitly suggested a newly formed pro-DeSantis super PAC, Fight Right, take the lead on TV advertising. Campaign officials believe the PAC’s TV ads have been ineffective, according to two people close to DeSantis and granted anonymity to speak freely.

“The campaign doesn’t think NBD’s current interim leadership should be within a mile of a TV budget,” said one of the people close to DeSantis.

The only person I've ever heard complain about dishwashers is Trump. What’s the deal here? He has never touched one. $1,000 says he doesn’t even know how to work one. I think he’s actually complaining about Ms. Hernandez who is the illegal that he has hired to clean the veggies that he didn’t eat off his plate.

Dude is running on something that neither he nor anyone else knows what the hell he’s talking about.

He's just selling fear.  That's all the GOP does these days.  "They're coming to take your [insert item here]..."  It's just a bunch of BS.

The correct answer should have been, "Trump is being a little ambitious with his calls to repeal Obamacare.  There is no appetite for it from the GOP."

Not true.

As we saw, the last time the GOP wanted it, they were really gung ho to repeal it.

They just didn't want the voters to see the steaming pile they wanted to replace it with.

(Ron DeSantis isnt going to want to put his name on an actual proposal, either.)

Trump's "war on democracy" fumble sparks backlash

During a signature revved up speech delivered in Iowa on Saturday, Donald Trump said the quiet part out loud — as the expression goes — during a key moment of the campaign event, declaring, "We've been waging an all-out war on American democracy," and the internet is having a field day with it.

The slip-up took place as he was, per usual, railing against the 2020 election results, singing his own praises as "an outsider" who was elected to "stand up to those liars, looters, losers, crooks," faulting Democrats for not putting America first, which he feels that he did for the four years he was in office.

"That's why it was one of the great presidencies, they say," he speaks of himself. "Even the opponents sometimes say he did very well, I have to say. 'Take it back,' they scream. his people say 'Take it back.' From that day on, our opponents, a lot of opponents, but we've been waging an all-out war on American democracy."
