SIP, what is it about the Harris group that you prefer to Bezos?

After being burned, I prefer high floor over high ceiling.  To me Bezos' has the highest ceiling but also a lower floor than Harris' group.  Why...

A.  His personality.  He's been infamous (and its tough for me to escape it over the years watching my share of CNBC) for his legendary temper and over the top patronzing manner and apparently his management hires sometimes exude those same qualites

B.  It seems like some here believe that Bezos would treat this is a labor of love, like a non-profit and just pour a ton of money into the team and do the best of the best of everything.  And while I do think that's possible.  "Frugaility" is one of the motifs of Amazon's culture.  Cutting costs.  I posted a ton of articles about it here. i could easily post 100 articles on it.  Spare no expense isn't per se Bezos mantra of running Amazon.  Some think that's out the window with this team.  Maybe they are right.  But to me its a bit of a wildcard.

C.  He's not known to be one of the better employers to work for -- for a number of reasons.

D.  I used to think its Bezos or bust for the stadium.  But I thought some more on this.  The biggest hurdle to get the DC land is for starters to get Congress to reliniquish the property.  Bezos is a really polarizing dude politically including with the party in charge of the House.  So I am not so sure its a slam dunk smooth process for the stadium if Bezos is the dude.  Don't get me wrong, I'd bet in his favor but to me there is some wildcard to it.

Versus

Someone who has actually run a team and done so somewhat successfully.  I've heard much more good than bad about Harris including from sources I'd trust the most including people who covered him and Philly and this morning add Keim to that pile of another who has heard good things.  Adding Rales and Magic Johnson i think might help land the stadium.  Rales already owns some prime real estate in the district and has been there for a long time.  I haven't heard any red flags about their personalities in the context of being A-holes who treat people like crap and that's important to me.

But I do like Bezos as a choice.  i do think his money matters.  I just find him more of a wildcard for reasons I expressed than some here do.

End of the day the choice is for the other 31 partners of the new owner to make. Dan isn’t going to be partners with the new guy, the other 31 are. They don’t have to approve anyone they don’t want to. If Dan presents a bid that is significantly lower than another bid would be, they don’t have to approve it.

Typically that never happens because most teams have multiple investors and there is a fiduciary duty between partners to maximize profits so the highest bidder almost always wins. In this case if Bezos is not even allowed to bid, there might be 8 owners who won’t approve it.

Unfortunately, nothing is ever clean and easy with Dan. The sale might be first and goal but this is still the first quarter. A lot game left to be played.

Listening to those covering the sale, not sure of it plays out like that.  Though I get your logic.

One common thing I've heard including today from the Sportico guy, the dude who actually thinks Bezos prevails but not because the owners insist on him but that Dan won't be able to resist a bid from him -- he's heard the fellow owners are really ginger about this, they don't want to poke the bear where Dan feels pressured in the middle of the process.

He said that's part of the reason he heard there is a lot less information out there about this sale compared to the typical sports sale they follow.  The fellow owners aren't poking around with Dan to see what's up, with maybe a few exceptions.  He talked about for example with the Denver sale other owners were asking about the process as it was going on.

He's not the only one who has made that same point.  It feels like the fellow owners are almost like us fans where they know Dan is volatile as heck and don't want to do anything that would prompt him to back out.  I am sure they'd consider voting him out but from what I understand that process can get ugly and drag on.

So in short, it wouldn't surprise me if they actually don't poke Dan on this and just let him have his peace and sell to whomever he pleases.  If Dan is really resistant, I'd guess the best shot for Bezos would be via Jerry Jones who might be able to charm Dan into selling to him.

For me, I'd be jazzed again if its Harris or Bezos.   I won't jump off a bridge if its the other two or whomever the other mystery buyer is, anyone but Dan for me.   But I'd be elated if its Harris and close to elated if Bezos.  But on the aggregate, I'll feel elated because Dan is gone.

If I was in the Bezos or bust camp like I gather you feel -- my gut is root for Jerry Jones to make that happen, I think he is likely the best shot.

Jerry Jones Would 'Piggyback' Jeff Bezos to NFL for Him to Buy Seattle Seahawks

If the Seattle Seahawks are put up for sale, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones knows who he would like to buy the team.

Speaking to The MMQB's Jenny Vrentas, Jones said of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, "I'd carry him piggyback to get him to the NFL."

The Seahawks are currently in limbo following the death of owner Paul Allen at the age of 65 on Monday due to complications related to non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Vrentas noted Seattle's succession plan remains unknown at this point, but Allen's sister, Jody, doesn't have interest in running either the Seahawks or Portland Trail Blazers.

Bezos lives in Seattle, has business ties with the NFL thanks to Amazon Prime's streaming rights to Thursday night games and is the world's richest person, with Forbes estimating his net worth at $167 billion.

Guessing based on what Keim said today.

A. Not this week.

B. Unlikely next week but possible

But if next week is unlikely yet possible, I'd gather the week after that we have a strong fighting chance. :ols:

The WP article I posted today alluded to the buyers would like to have it set for the owners meeting -- lets hope of course they prevail

At least I’ll post content.

I’d like to know how nice the facilities and amenities are for the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, relative to other NBA and NFL teams. It’s such an embarrassment that we have such sub par facilities. If I were a player, that would be a significant factor in where I chose to play.  I’d also take it as a sign of overall team function or dysfunction.

https://billypenn.com/2023/01/20/sixers-owners-commanders-harris-blitzer-holdings/

As Sixers managing partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer work to build their own arena in Center City, they’re also looking to expand their sports franchise holdings to the NFL — and rumors have surfaced of a potential new target.

Alongside Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos, Harris is reportedly a “top candidate” to buy the Washington Commanders.

Yes, the same team that dashed the Eagles’ dreams at a perfect season this year — from the same city where many say a downtown basketball arena decimated Chinatown culture.

The Commanders are near and dear to Harris’ heart, and the current ownership group is in hot water.

The 58-year-old billionaire, a private equity investor and leveraged buyout specialist, amassed his fortune as cofounder of Apollo Management Services after attending Wharton and Harvard Business School.

But he grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland, (a suburb of DC). And now his childhood team is officially up for grabs, after a sexual misconduct investigation spurred Commanders owner Daniel Snyder — though not directly implicated in any wrongdoing — to sell the team.

There’s been no confirmation of actual communication between the Commanders and the 76ers ownership group, but Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE) has “collected a wealth of data” on the situation, per the PhillyVoice.

What’s clear is that HBSE is actively looking to add to their expanding portfolio. Here’s a look at where else they have an ownership stake — or recently attempted to buy one.

Philadelphia 76ers, NBA

Josh Harris completed a deal to purchase the 76ers from Comcast-Spectacor in July 2011 for a reported $280 million, per ESPN. (The sale didn’t include the Wells Fargo Center, hence why HBSE is in the market for a new arena.)

“We are honored to have the opportunity to be affiliated with this storied franchise,” Harris said at the time. “As a basketball fan who attended college in Philadelphia, and with family roots here, I have always felt a strong connection to this city and the 76ers.”

David Blitzer, a private equity investor with the Blackstone Group, partnered with him on the deal, and the two combined to form Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment. Other members of the investment group included Oscar-winning actor Will Smith and Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, who recently sold his 10% stake over a “conflict of interest” with a potential expansion into sports betting.

Under HBSE’s leadership, the Sixers have grown. The team opened a 125,000-sq.-ft. state-of-the-art practice facility on the Camden waterfront in 2016. They followed it up in 2019 by building Chase Fieldhouse, a 2,500-seat arena in Wilmington that’s home to the G League Delaware Blue Coats.

The Chad Ryan take is what I took from the ESPN article about Canada guy.

Feels like another attempt to get bidders to up their offer.

Tanya appeared on Schefter's podcast last year. This isn't rocket science who leaked the info to him. Dan is just trying to squeeze every last dollar our of Harris.

I was hoping the new owners would be in place before the draft and not after the draft. Not sure if that is good or bad now.

The new owners won’t be here until

after draft and basically with 23 offseason over save for June 1 cuts.

23 is a lost year unless Sam/Jacoby overperform.

but that approach could back fire on the Snyders imho, after all it's widely known thats the reason Harris dropped out of the Broncos ownership bid cause he didn't want to get into a bidding war with Pennar-Walton group....we'll see if thats the approach and goal with this Steve A guy name mentioned

Well, the WP is back in play today, saying Snyder is still blocking Bezos.

Commanders owner Daniel Snyder has blocked Bezos, who owns The Washington Post, from moving forward in the bidding process, a person familiar with the process said recently, because of his displeasure with The Post’s coverage of him and the team.
