2023 Comprehensive Draft Thread

Hooker is older than 13 starters in the league right now. Add another 2-3 from This draft and the draft before and he ends up being in the older half of the league as a starter his rookie year.

The record of old QBs is pretty abysmal

What are yalls thoughts on Cam Smith, CB out of South Carolina? WalterFootball has us taking him now.

We don't look anywhere near a draft spot for a QB, nor do I believe we will try this deep into thr administration to try developing one going into year 4.  Also want to cut Fuller, we got some young Underrated secondary players that I believe are a shutdown corner away from being elite.

Our guard play is so damn bad, mediocre would be an upgrade, that can be FA and or 2nd round and later, imo.

A slight look ahead but getting new ownership right before the Caleb Williams/Drake Maye ‘24 draft could be a huge boon for this franchise.

Treat 2023 as a tank year and get DCs own Caleb Williams at 1.1 sounds amazing

As things stand now it's kinda setting up to be that transitional year next year.  I would love to see us grab Williams in 24......As for this coming draft it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see us go heavy on the O-line and CB

lol, i didnt know it was this good, it actually helps sell me.  Kirk was around that age, too.  Far from abysmal.  Most Qbs bust.  That's a pretty good record of Qbs considering.

I don't think any of these QBs are slam dunks like a Luck type. One or two of them may pan out but even the "vaunted" 2021 class look like all busts right now.

Though on the flip side the 2020 class might be 4/4 with the three first rounders + Hurts in the 2nd.

While Hooker's age doesn't bother me, not sure if I am sold on him as a player.  Abysmal today.

There is only one dude I am totally sold on at QB and that is Bryce Young.  I get the size issues and I don't discount that but I'd 100% roll the dice if we could draft him but i don't think we will have the opportunity.

CJ Stroud with an underwhelming half of football against 1-7 Northwestern. I'm still not sold, but I hope his hype remains so another QB needy team takes him ahead of us.

I've watched my share of Stroud, I have a hard time loving him.

Intrigued

I think the smart move is going to be to trade out of the 2023 draft. Unless we somehow pull out a blockbuster trade at QB under new ownership. Everything else is like pissing into the wind.

Get as many trade downs for next years picks (2024) would be ideal if the new group isnt in place for the 23 offseason.

How does Chris Weinke not make this list?  He was like 38 when debuted. 😂

Forget Stroud, Hooker, and Young. I think they all will be busts.

Name me one qb from Ohio State who had even a halfway decent NFL career?  Hookers throwing motion is awful. Stetson a college walk on outplayed him even before the pouring rain. Young after the combine may come in shorter than 5’11” and certainly less than his 196lbs. Kyler Murray he is not anywhere close.

Would love to get Michael Mayer in the first round of this draft.  He's gotten huge for a receiving specialist and could probably stand to drop some weight, but his size running around in the secondary is special.  Soaks up damage and middle field targets.  He's a good run blocker too.  Just a big guy to have to get around to get to the RB.  I also think he has a chance to buck the trend of TEs struggling to adjust to the NFL and make an early impact because he is so precocious.

Benjamin Morrison's play tonight has been as impressive a performance as I've ever seen from a freshman corner, and we have had some really special ones come through CFB the past five years.  Total dominance.  He looks like a future superstar and has been the best player on a field full of future first round picks.

We've got to go BPA with our first rounder and make it count.  I'd love for it to be an OL or a corner, but if someone like Michael Mayer or Myles Murphy or Trenton Simpson is there, they'd be a great choice.

Mayer would be such a good weapon for us.  We need a big inside target that can compliment all of these smallish, outside weapons we've got.

Just need to trade out of 2023 first round and make sure we have ammo to go up and get my boy Drake Maye in 2024. I love me some Sam Howell but Drake already works through progressions like he was a senior and makes NFL all over the field with ease. He's 6'4 and 220 pounds and also is leading UNC in rushing yards lol. He's going to easily break the ACC passing TD record for a single season and looking at his stats and the fact that we are 8-1 while without him we'd be a losing team, he should win the heisman if he keeps going at this pace. He has almost no weaknesses besides holding the ball a little to long and he also sucks at sliding.

Agree.  Mayer has been one of my guys for three years running now.   He's the guy I started with at the beginning of the draft season, wanting.   Among other things while watching Kmet years ago, I was thinking this dude Mayer is really the better TE.
