Mickey Mouse vs Pudding Fingers Ron: Desantis’s War on Disney! Should Disney leave?

Don't forget "after their first move took over a billion dollars of debt off of Disney".

Right. I'm thinking Ron doesn't really have a real plan for this. What he wants is the appearance of doing something for his POTUS run. What happens after that run, win or lose. Doesn't matter to him unless they change that Florida law about a Governor having to resign to run for President. Which, I'm sure they will.

This is devastating for Ron’s presidential ambitions. His pitch is that he’s Trump without the drama, ie, someone who will aggressively fight culture wars and specifically against those woke libs, but without the constant scandals. I thought he was cooked before he ever even got going, but now his case as being an effective anti-woke crusader just got a huge hole blown in it by getting brutally punked by Mickey Mouse.

To be fair to the comparison, Trump is pretty much a massive fail boat in every aspect of policy/culture war buffoonery too.  Ron just needs to lie bigger and harder and send some more migrants to New England…and he’ll be back on track.

Sure, but DeSantis needs to out-Trump Trump, not be a lightweight (and still ineffective) version of Trump.  Nobody is going to be meaner to immigrants than Trump, the man calls them rapists and animals, banned Muslims from entering the country and claimed he was going to build a wall on the Mexican border.  Those things mostly failed, but he sure as hell tried.  DeSantis' theory of his own case is that he would be more effective than Trump, and so him getting pwned by Disney crushes that case.  Here are RDS' own talking points, from when he spoke with Piers Morgan.  He repeats "getting stuff done" like 4 times in 5 minutes:

Quote

He added: “I mean, you can call me whatever you want, just as long as you also call me a winner, because that’s what we’ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and really take this state to the next level.”

But DeSantis said the name-calling on social media was “background noise” to him, shaking off Trump’s patented confrontational style with opposing candidates.

“It’s not important for me to be fighting with people on social media,” DeSantis said. “It’s not accomplishing anything for the people I represent. So, we really just focus on knocking out victories, day after day, and if I got involved in all the undertow, I would not be able to be an effective governor.”

While other declared and potential Republican candidates for president, such as South Carolina’s former Gov. Nikki Haley and current Sen. Tim Scott, have largely dodged questions about what separates them from Trump, DeSantis, who is seen as the main rival to the former president for the GOP nomination, pointed to Trump’s leadership style as a difference between the two.

“I also think just in terms of my approach to leadership, I get personnel in the government who have the agenda of the people and share our agenda,” he said. “You bring your own agenda in, you’re gone. We’re just not gonna have that. So, the way we run the government, I think, is no daily drama, focus on the big picture and put points on the board.

Maybe I'll take him seriously when he starts calling immigrants rapists and referring to some places as ****holes.

How the hell do we have  either news agencies (including one that advertised for the board) or hostile politicians not watching or attending this board meeting?

Incompetence?

Makes me think it actually would be easy to outmanuever the political parties because they are idiots.

Was reading an article saying that DeSantis is now looking at imposing a special tax, only on the Disney hotels. Or maybe turning all the roads within WDW into toll roads.

I've got to say, I'm surprised he's not getting pulled off the stage by his leash.

Especially the GOP has long been completely owned by big corporations. And I'm pretty sure that a lot of big corporations are thinking that having a fascist dictator blatantly trying to establish dominance over a corporation might be - against their corporate religions.

I am really surprised that a lot of corporations aren't reminding the GOP who they work for.

I just don’t get that guy’s popularity. Mediocre liberal takes delivered in a redneck costume.

I don't see anything "redneck" about his appearance or delivery outside of an incredibly subtle southern accent. I like the dude's videos...he's calm in his delivery, sometimes informs me on stuff I didn't realize, and he doesn't always take a pro-liberal position.

Thinking Disney needs to put signs on the rides. "Ride shut down by Florida GOP temper tantrum. And let all of the people who can't ride "vote with their vote".

This is like DeSantis' idea of turning Disney's roads into toll roads. Guaranteed to piss millions of park goers off, at DeSantis.

  • 88Comrade2000 changed the title to Mickey Mouse vs Pudding Fingers Ron: Desantis's war on Disney. Leave Florida?

I recall that MAGA people were offended at Disney’s suggestion that mermaids, mythical creatures that have never existed and therefore have no assigned race, could be non-white.

DeSantis, a craven opportunist who, 2 years ago, thought he could be President if he was a big enough asshole in the most public ways possible, used the power of the state (while constantly whining about socialism) to try to shame a massive multinational multimedia and entertainment company that makes its money from the parents of small children (i,e, Millennials) into adopting MAGA/Boomer orthodoxy that villifies anything it determines to be “woke” which is any time someone decides that being different is okay.   To circle it back, it being ok to be different has been a major theme of basically every Disney movie ever.*

*So long as you are pretty. :)
