15 weeks my ass.

And every single member of SCOTUS put their hand on a Bible, looked straight at a dozen members of Congress, and swore under oath that Roe was the Law of the Land, and that they had no pre-formed opinions on the issue at all.

Until they had the votes to legislate. Then, they couldn't wait to not just legislate, but to literally, explicitly, declare Roe to be overturned.

They're real big on "I have no intention of being a dictator". Until they count noses and the math says the coup will work.

(And note:  Think about Jan 6, in that context.)

Youngkin is realizing now the timing is not right.  If DeSantis with way more national presence can’t put a dent in the Trump juggernaut then he has no chance.  The plan is now.to ride out the governship then gear up for 2028.

While it's foolish to predict politics too far out, and I don't think Gov. Sweatervest has a legitimate shot at 2028....I think tonight's VA elections give him the best shot at a post-Trump run in 2028. With a solid Dem government opposing him, they'll be able to force Glenny Boy to moderate somewhat if he wants to get anything done. And if he has ANY ambitions for 2028, he can't block everything from getting done in VA for the rest of his term. This gives him even more of a fig-leaf as a "moderate" on the national scale while giving him the perfect excuse for any shortcomings the base might feel with him in the next couple of years.

I still don't think he's got any real chance of pulling it off, but politics are strange. And "Successful Republican governor of a purple/blue state (because the Democrats were able to prevent me from implementing all of my worst and most disastrous ideas)" isn't the worst platform to run on, especially if the Republican party does try to pivot to a post-Trump party in 2028 (which they would, in theory, have to if he wins a 2nd term and they decide to follow the Constitution because it helps them this time) and needs to find somebody that doesn't scare the **** out of a large portion of the populace like young people, minorities, or MOST WOMEN.

Youngkin gonna be Larry Hogan 2.0. He'll be back in the private sector after his term is up. Maybe he runs for governor again when he's eligible. Doubt he'll win tho.

These two shouldn't be in the same sentence, imo, Larry earned a lot more respect trying to be be pragmatic in Maryland then Sweatervest ever tried to do in Virginia.

Wait, wait. I thought crime was so bad in Nova. That’s all I heard this election cycle. Get on script, Sean.

Lower taxes, good schools, low crime, variety of good jobs. Just your typical socialist hellhole.

Lower taxes

Well that parts not true. It’s the highest in the state and it’s not even close.

I mean it’s laughably wrong 😂

It’s some of the highest in the country only topped by historically liberal areas

Property tax does target rich and old people, though, these days, since the standard youngin' can't afford no damn property.

Also, damn, your "expensive" property taxes are cheap compared to here in Jersey.  Most houses I'm looking at are pushing $10k a year.

Yeah that place is nuts. But. Mine is 10k/year :(

it’s worse here in Va because the PEC was successful in protecting land by allowing you to place large portions of land in a conservation easement. It can not be developed (for 99 years?) but you also don’t pay taxes on it.

so old money rich families put 348 of their 350 acre estate into an easement and pay the same taxes as me.

its ****ed up tax revenue and transitions a large portion of the burden to the rest of us.

Southern Virginia has dirt cheap property taxes. Was looking at a theatre for sale in Bristol. Property tax on a $2 million commercial property? $3k a year. 🤣

Don’t even have to go that far. Rapahanock (the weekend retreat for ****-you money northern Virginians) has like a 0.60/100 tax rate. They also have a rule that says real estate transfers must contain X acres, essentially making it impossible for a normal person to buy anything. So big estates. That can’t be subdivided. Super low tax rate.

It’s basically full of the “we couldn’t buy anything in middleberg” crows

all their kids are in college or beyond. If not they go to boarding school. so they don’t care about schools.
