Youngkin lucky that all his impulses legislatively have gone nowhere with a Dem senate. He'd be very unpopular if he could pass his agenda.

The Larry Hogan Effect - Fantastic at showing up to the football game, shaking hands, kissing babies and creating a soundbite for the news here and there while the opposite party State House legislates.

Yes, please make THIS the main issue in November.

It’s not the worse proposal (comparing it to other stuff we’ve seen). It’s 4ish months into 10 months of pregnancy and has the standard exceptions

but I still don’t see that going over well here. It’s almost a 50% cut to what’s currently allowed. Given how they’ve struggled to compete a lot lately, you’d think they’d stay away from it… but nope, every few months one of them says something to put it back in the news.

Get where you're coming from. Then those against it would use the slippery slope argument, kind of like the right does with gun control arguments. I'm interested in seeing how moderates on the issue feel about legislation like this. There is a good chunk of the population that I think would support something like this. Whether a majority would, I have no idea. I haven't seen recent polling but I sense the right starts here and goes further right down the road.

Yup and usually you’d call foul on that

but on those issues both sides have been very clear that they’ll take what we they can get but will continue to push for more in an effort to get it where they really want it.

Virginia’s ‘Moderate’ GOP Governor Is Quietly Funding Anti-Choice Extremists

Despite Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s attempt to appear moderate by calling for a 15-week abortion ban, the Republican governor is quietly funding anti-choice extremist lawmakers, many of whom have said they believe life begins at conception.

Spirit of Virginia, Youngkin’s political action committee previously known as Virginia Wins, donated nearly $100,000 to anti-choice down-ballot Republican candidates in the state so far this year, according to campaign finance records. The governor created the PAC in 2021 to support Republican candidates at every level of government. Youngkin, a former CEO of a global investment firm, was the sole contributor to the PAC when Spirit of Virginia first launched. He remains a major donor and was behind over $295,000 in donations in the 2022-23 fiscal year.

The $99,214 has gone to 10 Republican candidates running in closely watched races in the state Senate and House of Delegates, according to public records. All of Virginia’s General Assembly is up for reelection in November, and the outcome of certain races could have far-reaching ramifications for abortion access in Virginia — and, by extension, the whole Southeast, as many neighboring states have passed much more restrictive bans. Democrats hold the state Senate by a slim margin, while Republicans control the House of Delegates by just a few seats.

Youngkin’s PAC donated at least $3,500 to House of Delegates candidate Republican John Stirrup, who said earlier this year that he would support a total abortion ban.

Youngkin’s approval rating hit a record 57% in a July poll, as he has enacted policies to lower taxes, create jobs, improve public safety, and give parents more control over their children’s education.

Youngkin is also breaking fundraising records in Virginia, raising more in a single quarter than any previous governor raised in a single year.

The $3.3 million Youngkin raised in the month of August is more than double what any previous governor raised in an entire quarter.”

Curious as to how this fundraising prowess translates to votes in November.

Also saw a poll stating that abortion was the 2nd highest concern amongst voters in the Commonwealth.  I didn’t look at the poll but I’m a little skeptical about that.

I only skimmed that site, but according to it, there is no need for the Dems to even hsow up because the GOP is going to take it all! Red wave part two, baby!

Don't forget, Youngkin has deep pockets and a lot of friends with deep pockets. I doubt most of those campaign funds are individual/grassroot donations.

Virginia National Guard finds no fentanyl, refers 86 migrants a day during $2 million trip to Texas border

Quote

Gov. Glenn Youngkin decried the toll of human trafficking and fentanyl on Virginians when he announced plans to deploy troops this summer to the Texas border, where the influx of migrants has soared. But a News4 I-Team review of the mission raises questions about the Virginia National Guard’s ability to combat those problems.

The I-Team reviewed daily summaries of the guard’s nearly $2 million mission and found that, over roughly three weeks, they referred about 1,800 people to border authorities for illegal crossings and 145 people to police. But the reports also show the guard didn’t encounter fentanyl at any point and experienced what one commander described as a “weakening of the deterrent effect of our Soldiers and Airmen” on migrants and alleged human traffickers.
