The Official QB Thread- JD5 taken #2. Randall 2.0 or Bayou Bob? Mariotta and Hartman forever. Fromm cut

Personally i think it is short sighted to take JD at #2 being as this team isn't gonna win the SB this year, So why not draft someone with the physical tools and the IQ and develop him for a year?

Could be he runs a lot

I have to say that I feel incredibly deflated that we are going to pick Daniels. I just can't shake the feeling that he's going to be a complete disappointment. While I don't feel like Maye is a slam dunk, I just feel he has the tools and physical build to be a more likely elite QB. Surprised if Daniels makes it 5 years in the league without a career ending injury.

Unfortunately I fear you might be right. The optimistic view IMO is he starts out on fire until the nagging injuries start to accumulate and gradually sap him of his explosiveness by the end of his rookie deal or shortly thereafter. Sort of like Mariota except he didn’t come out of the gate all that strongly but the minor injuries took their toll rather than a single catastrophic one.

That's not much of an optimistic view ... why would we sign up for that? We have the #2 overall pick. Best to take a guy who is the best long term investment. We are not a QB away from a SB or even the playoffs. Silly to draft a #2 based on who is pro ready but has a high likelihood of a truncated career vs a prospect who has a higher ceiling with the potential to become a Josh Allen or Herbert, albeit in a year or two.

I just go back to the phrase it's not a rebuild just a retool. So when u think of Bobby wagner coming here...he is gonna want to win. Maye being much younger is the better prospect to rebuild with but if u just looking to retool you take the qb giving you the best chance out the gate

Hard telling not knowing.

I haven't hid my opinion that quarterbacks who play his style of football and have his frame usually don't last much more than 5 or 6 years but some guys are less susceptible to injuries than others and Luck plays a role too.

Maybe he learns to protect himself and stays relatively injury free.

Whether it's daniels or maye the most important thing is they adapt to the nfl and become exceptional pocket passers because quarterbacks who don't all fizzle out, some Sam darnold style and others justin fields style but either way it'll be the same result, we'll be looking for another quarterback in 3 to 5 years.

Joel klatt, who's been unapologetically in camp maye released his last mock draft and has us taking daniels.

I know the smoke may not be coming from the chimney in the Vatican but there sure is a lot of smoke coming from everywhere else.

Certainly starting to feel like we can order our daniels jerseys now.

Gonna be a hell of a ride the next couple years no matter what happens and I'm looking forward to it.

Joel klatt, who's been unapologetically in camp maye released his last mock draft and has us taking daniels.

I respect Klatt. He's probably the last guy I'd expect to mock us taking Daniels.

I'm assuming that he picked Daniels because he thinks we will, not because he thinks it's the right choice, correct?

Do you have a link to his mock draft? TIA

Yes it was because he believes that is what will happen not what he thinks should.

I'm surprised how volatile the draft proposition bets are. I had never paid attention to it before this year.

If somebody had real inside information they could make a killing, if they made a wager when the odds peaked in their favor.

23 going on 24.  It's sort of goes unnoticed about McCarthy which is from what i read he played sub 200 last year but put on 20 pounds before the combine and looked good, so in his case it was doable.

I am not a big boned guy myself.  Especially in college i put on weight and muscle without losing speed.  Nothing crazy but I wasn't thin and narrow like Daniels in my 20s or now.  Though Daniels shoulders looked broader at his proday.

For myself i don't find broadening shoulders to be that hard.  So it surprises me to see dudes with narrow frames in the draft process.

I also found for myself it was easier to gain weight as i got older including in my 20s.  in high school, i was narrow and thin like Daniels. Obviously everyone is different though.

Daniels looks bigger. He says he played at 205, and I think he can stay at the 210 (maybe get to 215). But mostly it’s about running less and not taking big shots.

Unlike RG3, he actually is comfortable working in the pocket.

Most books limit action on these types of bets.  Same with player props during the season. Most I've ever gotten down on a prop bet is $500, so if you want to get serious money down on that type of bet you'd need to spread it out across multiple books.  Kind of a pain in the ass, but it's definitely possible.

This is the perfect time to get a small bet down on Maye at plus odds. Even JJ is worth a look at 10-1.

These markets run on public perception, though, and there is a reason Vegas keeps building more casinos.

The most recent monstrosity they built was a massive Sportsbook with a 140 foot screen.

Stuff like this is built off the backs of Jayden Daniels -300 bets lol.

How about the storyline of GMAP calling him out as a scrub and telling him to put in his work to realize his potential. Then fast forward to GMAP drafting him because he did what was asked of him and became the number 2 pick! Pretty cool IMHO. Almost meant to be.

Im rewatching RG3 highlights to prep for Daniels. FWIW that was one fun af season.

Five games stood out for me.

IIRC:

1. The Saints game,  where the term "Griffining", was coined. To denote a player who completes a pass, gets knocked on his butt, and from the seated position he watches the receiver score a touchdown and raises his hands in triumph. I also believe that thus was the game where John Madden said that Griffin was revolutionizing football-- he had never seen anything like it before.

2. The Giants game in NY where Griffin was back peddling and karaokeing away from the Giants defensive ends who were frustrated that they couldn't get to him. Don't recall if we won, but we were behind and he was furiously mounting a comeback. I remember thinking we really had found something special. In the post game interviews the Giants defensive was effusive in their praise of RGIII. Before the game they refused to use his nickname because they said he was a rookie and he hadn't done anything to earn their respect. Well he had it in spades by day's end.

3. The Thanksgiving day blowout in Dallas. Perhaps Griffins best game.

4. The Vikings game with the famous 80 yard td run capped with a jump into the stands. I almost passed out I was screaming and yelling so damn loud.

5. The final game against Dallas when we clinched the division.

That was a fun year up until the Ravens game and the coup de grace ti Robert's dreams of superstardom vs Seattle.

Predict the top 5 picks (with trades) for bragging rights.

1. Bears take Caleb

2. Commanders take Daniels

3. Vikings trade with Patriots and take Maye

4. Arizona takes MHJ

5. Giants trade with Chargers and take McCarthy

EDIT-

Contest Scoring System-

You get 1 point for correctly picking the first pick.

5 points for correctly picking the Commanders pick (it has to be the most points we’re on a Commanders forum).

3 points each for correctly picking the 3rd, 4th, and 5th draft picks.

Bonus of 2 points for every correctly predicted trade. (You must be correct on both the teams that trade and the player selected).

1. Bears take Caleb
2. We take Maye
3. NE takes JJ
4. AZ takes MHJ
5. SD trades with MIN for a haul of picks and MIN takes JD

Wow, ugh, John Beck's answers as to how Jayden will fare against getting hurt or lit up are not very encouraging...

WTH...        Like yeah man you got lit up bro...not sure there is a drill or answer for it...

Makes me wonder What are we getting into... lol.

Hoping it becomes apparent that it is a non issue if indeed he is the pick, I guess we'll see... Lots of prayer time I'd imagine.

He's had 1 certified concussion in 2023, a sprained ankle in 2022 that he played thru, and another ankle in 2019 he played thru, so there haven't been a ton of injuries to this point in he is career. That is something.

It’s concerning that Beck is not actively teaching him slide drills. He almost kind of laughed it off. Are you serious?

Whoever drafts him needs to hire a baseball coach stat to teach him how to full speed transition into a feet first slide.

There's an art to it and for some (like myself) it just doesn't feel natural.
