Somehow I missed this story when it happened:

The Noid

The Noid is an advertising character for Domino's Pizza created in the 1980s[3] and revived in 2021. Clad in a red, skin-tight, rabbit-eared body suit with a black N inscribed in a white circle on his chest, the Noid was a physical manifestation of all the challenges inherent in getting a pizza delivered in 30 minutes or less.[4] Though persistent, his efforts were repeatedly thwarted.

Chamblee hostage incident

On January 30, 1989, Kenneth Lamar Noid, a mentally ill man who believed that the "Avoid the Noid" campaign was personally directed towards him and was antagonizing him, entered a Domino's restaurant in Chamblee, Georgia. Armed with a .357 Magnum, Noid then held two employees hostage for over five hours.[8]

After ranting to the employees that the then-owner of Domino's, Tom Monaghan, was fraudulent and had stolen his name, he first forced them to call the Domino's headquarters to demand $100,000 and a white limousine as getaway transportation for him.[8] After offering to exchange a hostage for a copy of American postmodern author Robert Anton Wilson's 1985 novel The Widow's Son, Noid reneged on his offer when an officer brought him the book.[8] Noid then became hungry and forced the captive employees to make him two pizzas;[8] while Noid ate the pizzas with his gun in his lap, the hostages escaped.[8] Noid surrendered to the police shortly after.[9]

Life imitating art.

Where you can get free or cheap burgers on National Cheeseburger Day

Burger fans can treat themselves to free or discounted food this coming Monday thanks to a made-up, quasi-holiday that was almost certainly conceived by a PR firm.

In honor of National Cheeseburger Day on Sept. 18, fast-food chains including McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King (among others) are offering deals and discounts on their signature cheeseburgers. And, in some cases, those same offers are being extended to customers for several days afterward.

Burger King is celebrating National Cheeseburger Day with a whole week of deals. On Sept. 18, customers who belong to the brand’s Royal Perks rewards club (which is free to join) can get a free cheeseburger with the purchase of any other items valued at $1 or more,

McDonald’s customers who order through the chain’s app can redeem 50-cent double cheeseburgers (one per customer) at participating restaurants on Sept. 18.

Customers who make any purchase at participating Wendy’s restaurants between Sept. 18 through Sept. 22 will be offered the chance to add a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger to the order for just 1 cent more.

In honor of National Cheeseburger Day, White Castle is offering buy-one-get-one cheese sliders at participating restaurants from Sept. 18 through Sept. 20.

Shout out to Target (and my dumb luck).

I bought a fancy (for me) showerhead yesterday morning for around 60ish. When I went to install it this morning I realized I either must have left it at self checkout or in my shopping cart 🤦‍♂️.

Went back to Target this morning and one of the employees remembered finding it in a shopping cart. So, not out 60+ for something I lost.

And this is why I shouldn't go shopping alone. 😆
