Holy F.

They're nuttier than we thought.

Hunker down, mask up, and stay safe.  Good Lord.

Clearly they're not getting enough oxygen to the brain and are in need of some cranial aeration.

US surpasses 20 million Covid-19 cases while experts foresee tough times in January

The US surpassed 20 million total recorded Covid-19 cases on Friday, hours after the country ushered in 2021 and left behind its deadliest month of the pandemic.

The nation also has set a Covid-19 hospitalization record for four straight days. The high counts are a grim reminder that even with 2020 behind us, the pandemic continues to ravage parts of the country. And some leaders warn the worst is still ahead.

"We are still going to have our toughest and darkest days," Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti told CNN on Thursday.

More than 125,000 coronavirus patients were in US hospitals Friday, Covid Tracking Project data shows.

Really really concerning about the reports of 60% of  the nursing home staff not wanting to take the vaccine. There are other reports of similar percentages in several hospitals and other healthcare settings as well.  I'd imagine That is a bad sign for the rest of the population and what the "no" rate may be.  Indefinite Covid? What's it mean? What are the implications?

UK coronavirus variant has surfaced in over 30 countries since Christmas

Over 30 countries have identified cases of the UK coronavirus variant in their home states after the new strain made headlines just before Christmas.

Upon hearing news of the variant outbreak, countries like Israel, the US and France, among others, shuttered their borders to UK passengers in the hopes of stymieing the spread of the new variant within their home states.

The new coronavirus variant is seemingly more transmissible than the original viral strain, according to research led by the Imperial College of London in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other UK-based educational institutions.

The entire list of countries as of Saturday who have discovered the new variant, in alphabetical order, include: Australia, Belgium, Britain, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Vietnam.

South Africa and Nigeria have found separate variants within their home states.

The number of cases in Britain has soared in the past few weeks because of the virus variant. Like other countries on the list, Britain is battling to contain new waves of the virus.

One of the worst hit countries in the world, it recorded 53,285 cases in the last 24 hours on Friday, and 613 new deaths.

With Covid-19 hospitalizations rising, California doctor says sometimes beds only open up when patients die

With the number of Covid-19 hospitalizations at an all-time high, medical facilities are having a hard time finding places to put new patients.

Doctors in Santa Clara, California, are treating some critically ill patients in the emergency room, as there's just no spots in intensive care units. "Often, the only time we can move someone is when a Covid patient dies," Dr. Marco Randazzo, an emergency room physician, said Thursday at a news conference.

More than 21,000 Covid-19 patients are in hospital beds throughout the state, with about 4,500 of them in intensive care units.

As 2020 nears its end, the US still is setting one-day records for Covid-19 deaths and hospitalizations.

Covid-19 hospitalizations have soared in December. The US set a record Thursday for the number of patients in hospitals on a given day, at 125,379, according to the Covid Tracking Project.

As the number of hospital patients rose more than 25% this month, the average number of deaths reported each day has also climbed significantly.

More than 3,740 coronavirus deaths were reported Wednesday, the most tallied in a single day during the pandemic and the second straight day that record was set, Johns Hopkins University data show.

And the outlook is grim for January. More than 80,000 Americans could die of Covid-19 over the next three weeks, a US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ensemble forecast projects -- offering a stark reminder the nation is still facing challenging times.
