Loved a young Olsen but the guy is 34.  We need to go young at this position.

We’re young all over the place and have holes all over. Olsen is a reliable safety valve who has a ton of NFL experience.

I’m in on him. Saves us a position to chase, too. Gonna be enough of that.

However he does have a lot of experience being on the sideline with injury.

I haven’t seen the numbers and can’t look at the moment. Can you share his % of games played / season?

He was durable for 9 straight seasons but...The past three seasons he played in 7,9, and 14 games respectively including IR in 2017 and 2018.  Using an average vs looking a his recent history would be risky because he is old and in decline. He has foot issues and is much slower than he used to be. He will be better off in the broadcast booth IMO.

I could see a similar deal Cincy made with Eifert - plenty of incentives, but relatively low salary.  He’d be a reasonable bridge kinda guy allowing us to develop a draftee (IMO).  I find myself liking a handful out of this class, so I‘d be cool with going that route rather than Ebron/Henry.  Hooper might be a bit of a long shot for us...

I just though I would throw a name out there who could be on the outs in Giants Country, Nate Solder could be had for a decent contract for the Skins. I know he's not been overly good for the Giants but like we did with another Ex Giant Flowers, he might be good for our Redskins.

Is Olsen one of the guys who can be signed whenever rather than waiting for FA, since he was released? Would be nice to be able to focus elsewhere if the money is relatively minor. He's still good, if a short term solution.

He had a bad couple years because he tried to let a foot injury just heal rather than having surgery...it was chronicled on All or Nothing. The guy could clearly still play it just got re-injured.

But he finally got the surgery, then played 14 games this season. Good TEs have played well late into their careers. He'd be a great get for his help and reliability for a young QB in the Redzone and at the sticks every drive.

Watch the Panthers season of All or Nothing, and you'll want Olsen in this locker room and bonding with Haskins, if the price is reasonable.

He's been durable sans 2017, 2018.

Im the interviews I've watched of Rivera, he seems really high on players who are leaders-high character.

https://www.panthers.com/news/panthers-greg-olsen-mutually-agree-to-part-ways

...Olsen, active and visible in the community throughout his tenure, was twice named a finalist for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.

Added Hurney: "Greg's meant so much to this organization and we have a tremendous amount of respect for him. He earned a reputation as one of the best tight ends in the League and served as a great leader and team captain. As special as he was for us on the field, his impact on the community is just as impressive.

...He spent the next nine seasons with the Panthers, playing in every game from 2011-16 and emerging as a go-to target for quarterback Cam Newton. He became a leader in the locker room and earned the fitting nickname "Mr. Reliable" after coming through in the clutch time and time again.

During that span he also became the first tight end in NFL history to record three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (2014-16) and he was voted to three Pro Bowls.

Olsen, who missed just two games during the first 10 years of his career, dealt with foot injuries in 2017 and 2018. But he looked more like his old self again in 2019, playing in 14 games and posting 52 receptions for 597 yards and two touchdowns.

Ron Rivera says Greg Olsen and Eric Reid will make the world a better place

Former Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera had nothing but praise for his players after being fired, but singled out Greg Olsen and Eric Reid. When he talked about helping young men he said he knows that Olsen and Reid are going to make the world a better place.

Rivera says he wants to coach again to win a SB and impact young men.

“Its guys like Greg Olsen and Eric Reid that are gonna make this world a better place”

Olsen has been very involved in charity work, mostly involving children with heart defects. In 2017, with the help of the Greg Olsen Foundation, he donated $750k to help fund a cardiac neurodevelopmental program.

At The HEARTest Yard, we continually think bigger. The status quo is never enough because we have lives at stake,” Greg Olsen said via WCNC. “While a few years ago we kicked off the program helping infants, our foundation is growing just like our heart babies. We’re dedicated to helping them over the course of their life. We see tremendous value in the expansion of The HEARTest Yard. That’s why we’ve already gifted $750,000 to kick start the funding for the cardiac neurodevelopmental program and we look forward to raising the millions more needed to establish and build this program into one of the nation’s best.”

"Greg is not [Ben] Hartsock, but Greg is a very competitive blocker," head coach Ron Rivera told David Newton. "He's smart. He understands leverage. He puts himself in position to seal guys off, cut guys off or knock guys down. He does that very well."

To be clear, Olsen is not currently available. Officially, nothing can happen between him and Carolina until after the Super Bowl. Even then, nothing's been agreed other than the two would "part ways". Mainly because Olsen didn't want to stick around for a re-build. So that doesn't seem to bode well for him coming to Washington, even if Washington was interested.

Disagree. With Rivera and Del Rio here and the defensive talent we are acknowledged as having, plus highly regarded youth like McLaurin...rightly or wrongly, this will not be viewed nor treated as a rebuild at all. Rivera said it himself. They will pitch this as a one-season turnaround that you want to be a part of, to FA's of interest, I can almost guarantee it.

I’m not sure what to call the situation we’re in - maybe it is a somewhat of a rebuild? - but yeah, the expectation seems to be this will/can be a quick turnaround.

To add to your point @ConnSKINS26, Turner likes to utilize TEs, Olson’s probably very comfortable with Rivera, we have the cap space, and high draft picks, good coaches and some good players/pieces (as you mentioned).  On top of that, we have some backs that would be fun to block for, and a TE is often a young qb’s security blanket.  Speaking of which, I’m semi-surprised Haskins didn’t go to his TEs more often (Keenum used them more).

So from looking at these blurry arse photos you're able to tell who some of these guys are?😶

Yes, if you look at shoulder positioning along with the V on their necks, colors of the jersey's, and then search the teams free agents with those colored jersey's, by process of elimination you can pick a few of them out. Those are just my guesses, but #5 is for sure Bradberry, you can take it to the bank.

Like for Bradberry (and maybe the smaller less grainy picture is clearer on Reddit, which is where this came from), everything matches, the Jersey, the V on the neck, you can tell he's bald, obviously black, you can see the white from him smiling which you can kind of see it's the same smile just super grainy and small.
