Last 3 when KOC took over the play calling rather than what Callihan dictated there was a major difference. All of the sudden we werent running every first down and easily predictable. All of the sudden Haskins started looking REALLY good. Outside of those games, Callihan was making KOC call the games a certain way.

Did we ever get this confirmed? It makes sense but do we have any evidence?

I dont remember where it popped up exactly, but I either read it in an article or heard it during one of the games from the broadcast team. The change was also very noticable, teams LBs stopped just charging the line to stop the run as soon as the ball was snapped on first down.

Based on what I saw. It makes sense and heard it before. But just curious if a source or media ever confirmed it. Or that we just put 1 and 1 together.

Because I'm now interested in if Dan his football brain trust had any influence. Did it come from Bill and KOC or did Dan walk down said...Bill we need to see KOC release the guy. Give him a shot.

Thanks fellas. Down the stretch we played against some terrible defenses, but I hear what you’re saying and can get on board. Regardless of the competition, I’m glad Haskins is going into the offseason on a personal high note, has to be good for the psyche.

The results on the field where could enuff for me.  Just watching the last 2 or 3 games you could tell there was a shift in play calling!  They where actually starting to become more interesting to watch!

Even when gruden was calling the plays the offense was just plain hard to watch.  Nothing about the offense this year seemed well planned or thought out.

I know some people aren’t convinced because once again we go against the norm and hire a coach before a GM, but in this case I think it’s ok. If everything said about Rivera is to be believed, this is the best we could have done needing a culture change along with a good/decent coach. Had we waited for a GM he would have been off the market. I like this hire and am looking forward to the season now. It was excruciating knowing it was football Sunday and our team was a lost cause as long as Bruce was here so it wasn’t really worth wasting the precious 3 hours during the weekend. But, most of us did anyways because we have young team with some promising pieces. No Vinny, No Bruce... please please Dan do not hire a buddy to be GM because this team cannot take another 10 years from a bum GM/President.

Someone explain to me the concern about hiring a coach before hiring a GM.

These two are going to have to be simpatico no matter what.  Therefore, I don't see the big deal in hiring one before the other.  You hire the GM first, he's got to get a coach who he can see eye to eye with.  On the flip side, you tailor your GM search to match the philosophies and vision of the coach you just hired.  This chicken before the egg stuff doesn't really seem to matter all that much, IMO.

Give answers. I just hate this Twitter type of reporting. Just pumping out news without any real info. Why not? Who is then in the run for the position?

Soon-to-be Redskins’ HC Ron Rivera is expected to target former Jaguars’ and Raiders’ HC Jack Del Rio as his new defensive coordinator in Washington, per sources. He is the leading candidate

Jack Del Rio: Defensive Rankings and Analysis

By Bronco Mike on Jan 28, 2012, 9:28am MST 127

As of yesterday, former Jacksonville Jaguars HC Jack Del Rio was signed to be our DC. Del Rio is a former 11-year NFL Linebacker who was a one time All-Pro and Pro-Bowler (1994). He has been a coach in some capacity since 1997.

Coaching Experience:

1997-1998: Strength and Conditioning Coach, Saints

1999-2001: Linebacker Coach, Ravens (Super Bowl 35 Champion)

2002: Defensive Coordinator, Panthers (with John Fox)

2003-2011: Head Coach, Jaguars (69-73 record including 1-2 in the postseason)

Overall, JDR has helped coach some potent defenses over the years. Let's examine his rankings as both a DC and HC. (Although he did help coach one of the greatest defenses in NFL history with the Ravens, I'm including only the years he was directly in charge of or in direct control of his teams' defensive philosophies)

Jack Del Rio Defensive Rankings, 2002-2011

Year Position Team YDS Y/RANK YDS/G PASSING RUSHING P/G PTS/RANK
2002 DC PANTHERS 4646 2 290.4 187.1 103.3 18.9 5
2003 HC JAGS 4657 6 291.1 203.2 87.3 20.7 18
2004 HC JAGS 5134 11 320.9 184.2 111.1 17.5 7
2005 HC JAGS 4655 6 290.9 184.1 106.8 16.8 6
2006 HC JAGS 4538 2 283.6 192.4 91.3 17.1 3
2007 HC JAGS 5021 12 313.8 213.5 100.3 19.0 10
2008 HC JAGS 5295 17 329.4 234.5 94.9 22.9 21
2009 HC JAGS 5637 22 352.3 235.9 116.4 23.8 23
2010 HC JAGS 5949 28 371.8 250.3 121.6 26.2 27
2011 HC JAGS 5008 6 313.0 208.8 104.2 20.6 10

- As DC with John Fox's Carolina Panthers in 2002, Del Rio's defense ranked in the top 5 in both yards allowed (2nd) and points per game average (5th).

- In 10 seasons, his defenses have ranked in the top 10 in yards allowed five times, and have ranked in the top 10 in scoring average six times.

- In 5/10 seasons, his defenses have allowed an average of less than 20 PPG , with his defenses allowing under 20.7 PPG seven times.

- Overall his defenses against the run have played extremely well allowing less than a 105 YPG six times and under 100 YPG three times. Three times his defenses have allowed over 110 YPG rushing, which the Broncos have done every season for the last six years (more on that later).

- If we use 200 YPG Passing as our benchmark, his defenses have allowed over that mark six times, and under that mark four times. Only 3 times in his coaching career have his defenses allowed over a 213 YPG passing average.

-In his last year as HC, his defense ranked 6th in total yards allowed and 10th in points allowed. This defense was on the field quite a bit folks, defensively his team had a fantastic year.

This is exciting. Would be a very intriguing hire.

I love it.  Listened to the interview with Schefter and Rivera and Rivera kept coming back to his relationship Madden.  He kept saying that having other people that had head coaching experience are integral to learning and evolving.  Hopefully Danny Boy puts him intouch with Gibbs for another experienced voice.

Everything this guy says is awesome.  As others have said he is well respected, and feared simultaneously, the media loves him.  He will walk in day one and change the culture of this team immediatly.

What could Rivera and Del Rio do with Sweat and Young? See Miller and Dumervil in Denver under Del Rio.

Now I'm really excited.

Isnt Del Rio a 3-4 guy or did he also coach 4-3? Just wondering if its likely we will stick with the 3-4 or not.

I think he runs a Jimmy Johnson style 4-3
