It wasn't posted, but here are our non-roster invites for spring training:

Right-handers: Aaron Barrett, Bryan Bonnell, Cade Cavalli, Jacob Condra-Bogan, Tyler Dyson, Tyler Eppler, Paolo Espino, Javy Guerra, Cole Henry, Gabe Klobosits, Todd Peterson, Jefry Rodriguez, Jackson Rutledge

Left-handers: Luis Avilán, Tim Cate, Matt Cronin, T.J. McFarland

Catchers: Welington Castillo, Israel Pineda, Jakson Reetz, Raudy Read, Brandon Snyder (utility), Blake Swihart (S)

Infielders: Jackson Cluff (L), Drew Mendoza (L), Jordy Mercer, Hernán Pérez, Adrían Sanchez

Outfielders: Gerardo Parra (L), Carlos Tocci, Yasmany Tomás, Cody Wilson

I'm really excited to follow Cavalli and Rutledge, and to hopefully see Cate take a step forward. We also have a number of interesting catcher prospects, especially Israel Pineda, who is raw but has a great arm and double-digit HR potential.

Nats sign right-handed reliever Jeremy Jeffres to a minor league contract with an invitation to camp.  Jeffres, 33, pitched in last year's shortened season for the Cubs had posted a 1.54 ERA, a 0.943 WHIP and eight saves in 22 appearances.  Has a career 3.08 ERA.

Do Voth and/or Fedde have options?

Ssems like the bullpen has good potential.  I’d like to see Martinez be flexible with the closer spot.  For example, if Freeman is due up in the eighth, I’d rather have him come in with Hand and have Rainey/Hudson/Harrispitch the ninth.

Almost sure neither does.  Fedde learned last February that he had an additional option ( https://www.masnsports.com/nationals-pastime/2020/02/for-fedde-more-options-mean-less-opportunity.html ) but then that March he was optioned ( https://www.mlb.com/news/erick-fedde-tres-barrera-optioned-to-triple-a ) .  (The first link notes that Voth has no options left.)

Here's an additional fifth starter candidate mentioned yesterday by Davey Martinez, with options remaining: 26 year old Rogelio Armenteros.  He was picked up on waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks in December.  Just five MLB appearances, all with the Astros in 2019.  Missed 2020 after elbow surgery. Throws a bunch of change-ups.

If that’s the case, would they keep both in the bullpen?  They need to keep some guys stretched out in AAA.  I don’t think either would make it through waivers.

Or if Robles takes a step forward and can lead off.

Yea, it’d be awesome if both Robles/Keiboom suddenly hit their stride and started really raking.  Definitely need them to step up if we want to see a formidable lineup.

Robles

Keiboom

Turner

Soto

Bell

Schwarber

Castro

Gomes

That would be ideal but I just don’t know if Robles can ever become a true leadoff guy.  It’d be great to see Turner in either #2 or #3 spot.  Maybe Garcia in due time can be a viable #2 hitter as well.  A lot of questions!

Davey said as much on the radio this week. Imagine we'll see them give him a shot to lead off in spring. He also said it could be a situation where he leads off against......lefties (I think) and somebody else against Righties. Or Trea who it doesn't matter. Having Robles lead with Trea and then Soto or Bells. That's nice

The article also has a link to an article about the Clay signing.

Notes: Robles, Scherzer, bullpen

Clay vying for roster spot, Major League debut
As the Nats’ roster stands, Brad Hand is the only southpaw in the bullpen. Martinez believes the club's righties can get out left-handed hitters, but the team also will evaluate its potential lefty relievers in Spring Training.

Among the group is 27-year-old Sam Clay, who is eyeing his big league debut after signing a Major League deal with Washington this offseason.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Matt Cronin does--upper 90's fastball, hammer curve. Another name to remember is Reid Schaller. From Baseball America:

"Schaller has a fastball that sits in the 94-97 mph range in the bullpen and touches as high as 99-100 mph. For secondary offerings, the 6-foot-3 righty has a power slider in the mid-80s with sharp, downward action that could become a put-away pitch..."

Your daily MASN blows a billion goats reminder. They are broadcasting 0.0 games this spring. All available games are streamed on Nationals.com or on the radio. I blame @Spaceman Spiff.

That is such ****ing bull****.  I would be more apoplectic if I didn't love Charlie and Dave, but still total bull****.

Well, a little positive news on the MASN front.

MASN has announced plans to launch its owned and operated dedicated sport media app, creating an innovative digital experience that will provide viewers enhanced access to coverage across all available platforms. For the first time ever, fans throughout MASN’s seven-state broadcast territory will have the opportunity to live stream the network’s entire programming lineup - including all Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals games - by using the new MASN app and authenticating via TV provider log-in.

Apparently the app will launch by opening day (not sure if in home only).  Way overdue, but still nice to see some progress.

It ****ing sucks.  You have to have a cable package to get access to the app...so if you stream TV some other way like I do (Youtube TV), you still don't get access to it.

MASN and I think Oakland are the only two regional sports networks that don't stream on other platforms.  It's ridiculous.

Someone did tell me that they do stream on AT&T tv's month to month television package, I'll be checking that out to see if it's true.

Thanks, I appreciate it.  That's more than I pay now, but to be able to stream games without having the hassle of using a VPN to get around the blackout on MLB.TV is probably worth it.  Then I can just downgrade my subscription after the season is over.

I will be mailing boxes of my dogs poop if you only get ONE MASN channel in this package.  Like if the Nats and Orioles are playing at the same time and you only get one MASN channel instead of both...boxes of dog poop to the MASN office.  Every.  Day.
