The Washington Nationals Thread: The Future is Near!

I'm okay with not trying to steal too often. Molina is arguably the best and base runners are gonna be at a premium this series. If Turner and/or Eaton are on, I'd rather give Rendon and/or Soto a chance to rake with runners on. They can both hit gappers to drive those guys in from 1st anyway.

My only issue is not using PRs more often. We should have had Parra PR for Adams yesterday, or even Dozier(and then have Dozier stay in the game and the P can take Kendrick's spot in the lineup).

At some point we'll probably need someone in the 'pen not named Doolittle or Hudson to get some big outs. I do feel like we're gonna have a Fernando Rodney butt clench moment at some point this series. But the way things are lining up it seems like we'll always have a starter ready to go to get an out or two if we need it as long as our SPs can consistently go 6+ IP.

Rainey did get two people out. The non-Hudson/Doolittle Division, I like Rainey, Rodney, Elias, Voth, Juggs Machine, Tee-ball tee, Folding Chair, Parking Cone, Hunter Strickland.

Just saw this. I knew we finished 74-38 but this looks better lol. Including the postseason the Nats are now 80-40 since May 23rd.

You can definitely argue that the Nats have been the very best team in all of baseball since that date.

I hate Elias being on the roster because I’m afraid they’ll try to use him against LHB. He’s terrible.

I feel like he’s on the roster as a worst case scenario lefty “specialist” but doubt he ever enters a game.  Kind of surprised Andrew Stevenson isn’t on the roster strictly as a pinch runner.  Would have been a no brainer to have him in there running for Adams yesterday.  Gladly, things worked out anyway!

It's worked so far.  Having four strong postseason starters is a HUGE asset.  But having them pitch in relief is very tough on them.  And when they struggle, the negative effect is felt twice over because you effect their ability to start too.

Hey how about Matt Adams PH that got that late rally going yesterday. He'd been hurt and slumping the last month of the season it seemed. Nobody was touching Wainwrights curve all day and he rips one off the wall.

He's a huge bat to have back. Clutch too.

Need a fast start tomorrow so the crowd can be jacked up as possible.  Hopefully Strasburg has his A game stuff tomorrow night

No doubt.  Would be lovely for Stras to come out firing bullets and getting the crowd fired up early & bats get going right away because in the first two games there hasn’t been any crowd factor at all.

Today is one of those fake holidays that people just use as an excuse to take a 3 day weekend.  As such, my office is a tomb.  I really only came in because it makes my commute to the ballpark easier tonight and so I can get all of my work done today so I have a light day to coincide with my hangover tomorrow.  Concentration is difficult today.  I just want it to be 4:30 so I can head down to the yard.

Man I want Stras to lock this game down today so we can start talking about a sweep (or wrapping up in 5). And the Yanks/Astros needs to go 7.

Curious how the crowd is today. Maybe fans a get little complacent being up 2-0, thinking about saving their money for WS tix?

Totally possible.  Hopefully they realize how big this one is.  Losing game 3 at home with Stras on the mound changes the tone of the entire series.

The Astros are great. The roster is deep.  Just take into consideration how many games a lot of their core group missed this season, and they still ended up with the best record in the A.L.   Now, as an A's fan, despite the Astros being in the AL West, I still hate the Yankees more (post-season history reason). I respect the Astros for how they built themselves.  When they were first moved to the A.L. West they were the laughing stock of the division for a few seasons why they quietly drafted and built talent.  When the A's drafted Sonny Gray, it was said Beane wanted George Springer but he was picked before Beane could get him.   I remember when Altuve was a rookie and was one of the hardest outs in the game already.  In a division that feature Trout & Albert on one team, the Astros simply blew right by them and their garbage front office.   The Astros are what I want the A's to be one day, and they have the scouting/drafting/development tools to do it, they just need to open their wallet to keep the talent. (Which hopefully revenue from a new stadium and TV deal will help make happen).

That said, once the Astros take out the Yankees, I am fully on board to see the Nats be the ones to get the huge upset. I am only rooting for the Astros to take out the Yankees, once that happens, I am rooting for the N.L. WS rep.

Regarding tonight's game, I can't help but think about last week's, game 3 homecoming where the team came out hot but the bullpen (especially one of our more reliable arms, Patrick Corbin) absolutely went to hell. Dunno if it was trying too hard to appease the hometown crowd or if it was just one of those nights but I really hope we don't have a repeat of that tonight. A win tonight puts the team in a very good position.

Thats what I want too...but if they beat The Curly Ws for the title it will irk me to the tenth power?! The baseball team I hate the most winning another world series over a team I'm pulling for will make it that more maddening.
