Not third world but quite possibly second tier.

Possibly a lot like America's standing before the end of WW1. Kinda around and influential just not as much as some other countries. That seems to be where we're headed.

Doubtful with our military and economic size, it's not like USSR wasn't a superpower while also being really bad from a standards of living and human rights standpoint.

China is doing thing far worse then us but a growing player in the world stage, not shrinking.

This decision today is just awful, especially because my sister-in-law is going to be having a baby in a little over a month. This is what she posted on Facebook a few minutes ago:

“Currently hooked up to a baby monitor in the doctors office, I also ponder my own fate. Living in a red state with a trigger law…it is very unclear what would happen to me during birth if my life were in jeopardy.”

(a bit of background, she has epilepsy so she’s referring to that when she says “if my life were in jeopardy”)

I give you a ton of deserved crap but for once we are in the same arena.  Hope your SIL has no issues.

And that is precisely why it has to be a protected right.  You can quibble about other instances all day long and debate the morality aspect until you’re blue in the face, but there are scenarios where the only other possible outcome is the death of the mother.  I always thought the pro choice argument didn’t start in the proper place.  If you focus on being pro-life of the mother and get agreement that far, it’s pretty easy to apply the same logic to the entire debate from there.

In NY - CC permits were issued if you had the right friends (may issue). Totally corrupt and terrible. NY can still have requirements to get the CC but its not going to be at the whim of whoever's in charge and whether or not your reasoning is compelling to them. So would expect CCP to have stiff requirements to obtain, but still obtainable now. This is a good ruling imo.

People should have the right to defend themselves from criminals and not have to hope that a cop is there and that they will help (not guaranteed in NYC by any stretch).

What a sad way to go through life to think you have to carry a deadly weapon with you at all times.

Yeah but the Russian Federations sphere of influence has been laughable since the fall of the USSR. What countries really look to them for anything other than oil? Iran? Belarus? North Korea?

Certainly not the standing tho the US had at points over the last 75 years.

USSR isn't a superpower anymore and Russian Federation never was since its refent creation, are you suggesting we aren't either or won't be soon simply because we are going backwards from a human rights standpoint?  Because I don't hear that holding back China as they careen into superpower status.

How is banning contraception popular

These people not have sex or something?

How lame is your life?

Side note:

I wonder if “well we better have sex every night since they’re banning contraception soon” will go anywhere for me.

No I'm saying our sphere of influence will fade. I've said nothing about our status in regards to remaining a "superpower".

I see...just not sure how that would work or happen if we are only superpower or one of two.

Moderates and boomers have absolutely destroyed this country, ****ing pathetic! Not only do they want to blame everything on the boogeyman, "Bernie Bros", but they refuse actually take any decisive action that would progress this nation forward. They're just as afraid of trigger words like "socialism", "wokeism" and "progressive" as the GOP. Liberal boomers need to **** off and step aside, you've allowed this country to go to **** long enough. There is clearly no room for moderates in today's politics.

Good point- -this was the comical thing about Trump's immigration tantrums ("Why can't we get more immigrants from good (i.e. white) countries like Finland or Germany).  Uhh, bro... nobody from those countries wants to move here.

They move here because of job opportunities and that the freedoms are roughly the same as in many parts of Europe.  But if the latter is taken away than I think more than a few are going to stay home / move back.

This might be unpopular but I think you can partially fault Ginsburg for this mess.  She knew that Roe was hanging by a thread but refused to retire when she should have.  I guess she was just too idealistic and assumed that future justices even if they were conservative would be apolitical and would care about precedent.  Its a shame the court is devolving into a political tool.

Yeah, your Supreme Court is clearly making it as  unattractive as possible.

This assumes that her retirement would have allowed Obama to nominate and get a replacement judge through Mitch.

It’s like all the other things where they will find a way to get it and God will forgive them for it or justify it in some other way. It’s more about taking it away from others than themselves.

It's past time for a major crackdown on Christianity in this country.  It is a cancer that needs to excised from our government entirely.  This fascist cult has no place in decent society.

No, no, no.  The fascists aren’t the problem, it’s the moderates and liberals we have to fight against!

The White House better be ready to give out more for child support since a female will have to give birth to a child she couldn't afford but got pregnant accidentally or whatever reason.

Also, I know in Islam a woman can have an abortion up to 3 months. How will this effect other religions?

Founders wanted the government to stand up to Christianity. Not crackdown on it, pretty sure a blanket approach would be unconstitutional.

Going after corruption and loopholes in organized religion would be a great start, regardless of religion.

But specifically targeting one religion in general will not go well, I get the anger, but let's not overreact and it blow up in our face (most of the country is still Christian)
