Trump moves to thwart fundraising off his name

Donald Trump’s campaign is upping its efforts to stop Republicans who use his name and likeness to fundraise without the former president’s consent.

On Friday, the campaign announced that it would begin giving a “Seal of Approval” to Republican candidates and groups Trump endorses, in order to help the party’s donors distinguish between those outfits that the former president supports and those that are trying to raise money off his name by falsely conveying they have his backing.

“Unfortunately, some candidates, PACs and their fundraising vendors have drained millions of dollars from President Trump’s donors by falsely claiming that they support President Trump, that the president supports them, and that funds received in response to the solicitations will support, help, or defend President Trump,” the campaign said in a statement.

According to the announcement, those who do have Trump’s support will be granted the use of a gold-emblazoned badge reading “Official Team Trump.” Trump’s campaign says it is encouraging Trump-endorsed candidates and groups to use the seal in fundraising solicitations, and on social media and advertisements.

“The Seal will be a powerful signal to President Trump’s loyal donors that the sender is on Team Trump, and is not a scammer,” the campaign said.

Trump’s lieutenants have long fought those who, they say, have improperly tried to fundraise off the former president’s name. In March, the campaign sent a letter to the National Republican Congressional Committee and 10 Republican consulting firms asking them to stop using Trump’s name and likeness in fundraising pitches. And in 2021, Trump’s operation sent a cease-and-desist letter to the NRCC, National Republican Senatorial Committee and Republican National Committee demanding they stop fundraising off him.

I'm thinking there's about a 90% chance that the actual criteria for getting a "seal" is giving him a cut of the money raised.

I'm about as white as it gets other than Conan O Brien, but I'd be happy to replace her and all the white people who think like her with immigrants from anywhere.

Or even with howler monkeys who I think are more intelligent and offer better discussion.

It makes sense that people who derive their sense of worth from being a race that’s the majority, and carve out their life around the idea they’re superior because of their race and said majority, would be terrified at the notion of no longer being the majority.

A Legally Besieged Trump Focuses on a Personal Goal: Revenge Against Hillary Clinton

Former President Donald Trump is a busy man.

He faces four different indictments, 91 felony charges, a quickly depleting political war chest, and is running for president. And yet, with all of his own legal problems, Trump is focused on a revenge lawsuit against his old political rival Hillary Clinton and her allies.

Most bizarre of all, Trump and his lawyer, Alina Habba, are suing Clinton in a manner that could land them a huge fine—which would be a second fine for this lawsuit.

Back in January, U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks berated Trump and Habba for wasting everyone’s time in a blistering order that personally sanctioned them $937,989.

“This case should never have been brought. Its inadequacy as a legal claim was evident from the start. No reasonable lawyer would have filed it,” Middlebrooks wrote, ripping into Trump and his lawyer for firing an indiscriminate spray of rubbish in “a quintessential shotgun pleading” that merely served “a political purpose.”

Now, Trump and Habba are trying to reanimate their dead lawsuit by claiming that the Durham Report “seismically alters the legal landscape of this case.” In a court filing last month, Habba asserted that it “corroborates many facts and allegations about which this court expressed skepticism,” going on to boldly warn the judge—on the very first page—that she plans to ask him to step aside.

“The orders entered by this court imposing sanctions against President Trump and his counsel raise reasonable questions as to the appearance of impartiality,” she wrote, “and therefore a motion to disqualify is forthcoming.”

For another 18 pages, Habba describes all the ways the Durham Report somewhat aligns with the hundreds of allegations she made in her initial lawsuit.

But the biggest hurdle for Trump at this point is that it’s probably too late to relitigate the same things he’s been railing about at 2016 campaign speeches and Twitter and Air Force One and 2020 campaign speeches and Truth Social and Trump Force One and now 2024 campaign speeches.

Last year, Judge Middlebrooks already decided that it’s too late for Trump to sue over this stuff. When he dismissed Trump’s claims against everyone except the federal government back in September 2022, the judge noted that the former president simply waited too long to accuse everyone of a mob-like racketeering scheme—noting that Trump can’t lie and claim ignorance, because he’s been tweeting the same tired complaints about Clinton for years.

While Habba claims that “the Durham Report provides new context” to the lawsuit, she’s also running that risk that Middlebrooks will use this as an opportunity to closely scrutinize the Durham Report—and drill down on just how not new it actually is.

Trump Voters Trust Ex-President More Than Their Family and Friends: Poll

Former President Donald Trump's supporters say they hold him as a source of true information over their family, friends, and religious leaders, according to a new CBS News/YouGov poll out on Sunday.

Previous polling gives Trump a commanding lead over his Republican rivals in the race to be the party's 2024 presidential nominee. However, last week the former president was charged with 13 counts in an indictment by a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, related to claims he broke the law attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election outcome in the state, which he has denied.

Meanwhile, Trump has already pled not guilty to a series of indictments concerning allegations he orchestrated the payment of hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign, mishandled classified documents after leaving the White House, and used illegal tactics in a bid to overturn the 2020 election when a group of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021, to stop Congress from certifying the Electoral College.
