The Weinstein Company fired one of its founders, Harvey Weinstein, on Sunday, after a New York Times investigation uncovered allegations that he had engaged in rampant sexual harassment, dealing a stunning blow to a producer known for shaping American film and championing liberal causes.

It was an escalation from Friday, when one-third of the company’s all-male board resigned and four members who remained announced that Mr. Weinstein would take a leave of absence while an outside lawyer investigated the allegations.

In an interview Sunday, Lance Maerov, one of the four board members, said it had been brought to their attention that Mr. Weinstein had violated the company’s code of conduct at some point in the past week, but he would not specify what the violation was. The statement announcing the firing said the decision had been made “in light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days.”

So this has been rumored for such a long time. Questions, why did it take so long for it to become an issue? I mean obviously, someone decided to speak out at this point in time, but so many people knew about it.

I'm assuming things like this:

The downfall of Harvey Weinstein would seem like obvious grist for TV’s late-night comedy shows. Mr. Weinstein was facing three decades’ worth of allegations that he sexually harassed women; on Sunday, his own film studio fired him. The story seemed to parallel those of other powerful men who were confronted with numerous accounts of sexual misdeeds, including Bill O’Reilly, Roger Ailes and President Trump — all of whom were widely pilloried in the monologues of the late-night hosts and on shows like “Saturday Night Live.”

Yet since Thursday, when The New York Times published an investigation into the history of complaints against Mr. Weinstein, most of the late-night shows have avoided the matter altogether. Only “The Daily Show” addressed it fleetingly in an episode on Thursday night.

The omission seemed especially glaring on this weekend’s installment of “Saturday Night Live,” a show with a history of responding rapidly to news events and which, in a 90-minute broadcast, has multiple opportunities to address a range of topics.

As it turns out, the show did have jokes about Mr. Weinstein ready — they just weren’t used, according to a person familiar with how Saturday’s episode was prepared.

The absence of any commentary about Mr. Weinstein opened up “S.N.L.” to rebukes from conservative critics who said that the show was covering up for a prominent liberal.

Overlooked and ignored because he champions liberal causes. Clinton held fundraisers at his house, Michelle Obama called him a great man, Malia with the internship. I really wonder when both sides will stop pointing the finger at each other and realize both parties are rotten from top to bottom with very few exceptions. Disgusting he has been covered for for this long this long when it's been rumored for awhile. What does he do when exposed, points the finger at the NYT for outing him claiming they had a deal. There really is something seriously wrong with this country and it's not even close to being all about Trump.

I wonder if people might take the claims of pedophilia amongst the ranks of Hollywood and the elite more serious now that it has been shown money can cover up decades of abuse. Not saying it's running rampant, but anyone claiming it could be a problem and it should be looked into has been greeted with tinfoil hat conspiracy theory ridicule although there have been many claims for awhile it's been going on.

It's deeper than parties.

From a woman's point of view, it's patriarchy pure and simple.

Men control the world. Females and children in this system exist to serve males. We are to be used and abused for sex, our labor is to be used without equal compensation, our services to raise children and keep the home for a male are expected. In fact, females to this day are raised to be subservient to males.

That's all males regardless of political party, race, religion or socio-economic status. This is patriarchy.

Females the world over are working hard to change this system, and we succeed in little pockets. But it's not enough.

It's why sexual harassment, rape, porn, sex trafficking exist. To serve males needs. It's not to serve females' needs for sure.

It's why females are paid less for the same work, with all the attendant "reasons" why, which are just justifications why companies want to pay females less, to increase their profits.

It's why women do what's called housework, while men "help", or women raise children while men "babysit".

And on it goes.

As an example, look at some of the language used right here in the various Redskins fora. I could comment all day long on the language here that debases females.

How you gonna say its not political, but your whole entire post is political. LOL. Especially since you make it seem that only Hollywood has  this problem, and not other places where powerful men control things.

There is a huge problem with our society with sexism and sexual harassment of women by powerful men. That problem has taken place since this Capitalism thing first started. You have not stated anything new.

I am glad Weinstein got axed. There needs to be a culture change in Hollywood so that this stuff can be ousted.

Pornography doesn't exist for females? Umm...I disagree.

Of all she wrote in her post, this was the only point you disagreed with and had to make a separate post about. Unreal lol.

No. There was more. I just wanted to start with that.

Excuse yourself from the thread, Kosher.

And to others, let's stay on topic for at least the first couple pages and not run merrily down deep OT rabbit holes at the drop of a post.

Anywhere there are power imbalances, people will use their power to exploit others.  Plenty of people in Hollywood are definitely guilty.  Same thing in the music industry.  Even in run of the mill workplaces.  Power corrupts.

Glad he's out.  Hopefully he gets prosecuted.  Hopefully any ring he's a part of gets brought down.

Thats because you live in a fairy tale

Benning, that's not really a bannable type slam in this context, but still be advised the next time you just take a shot at someone in such a superficial manner be ready for a temp ban via rule 5. You're better served by avoiding making those type of shots a pattern. You're quite capable of being castigating in a more articulate and meaningful manner without resorting to simplistic rule 5 violations---which when done too often, even here, is going to catch up with you.

Now having  said that, as it states in rule 5 (and I put it in there), posters here have the option to be quite harsh if they are willing to take the risk that their take will be seen as justified, and the methodology suggested for "safest" execution of that process are detailed.

Really, I'm also using this to remind everyone.

I'm trying to think of the Senator's name...I think it was Bob Packwood (no pun intended) who was a champion of women's rights and wrote the statute about harassment including anything creating a hostile environment...and all the time he was drunk in his office chasing his secretaries, and was even dumb enough to keep a diary about it.

I know a guy who is an actor, haven't seen him often because he lived in NY. But before he moved there he used to be a member of my church. He's very good, and I recall him being in American Gangster and most recently Luke Cage. The stories this guy could tell.... He claims he could've been in a lot more projects if he was willing to do what others have felt they needed to do to get the roles. This goes for women AND men. He told me a lot goes on at these parties they have. A little different from Weinstein propositioning women under the guise of a business opportunity or "work meeting", but essentially the same harassment and creepy manipulation.

I always wondered how Dave letterman survived... he had a secret room set up to just bang interns and if reports were true the female staff pretty much just ushered them to him on a daily basis.

Allot of dudes with power or fame just go crazy... it always puzzled me how he got away with it and so many others did not.

i assume allot of cash exchanged hands.

The silence of late night, snl, etc. is doing nothing but fueling the `mainstream media` narrative and `fake news` crap we have all had to suffer over the past few years.

So, shame on them for that in the absolute worst way.  The dude cornered a woman and forced her to watch him masturbate.

Also, as a general statement, how do we feel about the coziness of media moguls with prominent politicians?  Murdoch and the repubs, weinstein and the dems... it seems to me that befause they cannot police themselves, maybe we need to look at legislation.  These relationships make me want to vomit.
