Listening live. Jury unanimously finding aggravating factors on all the counts, but not unanimous that the aggravating factors outweigh mitigating factors.  So no death penalty recommendation so far.

Mine too. And it's really sunk since I'm bumping it. **** **** ****

Keeping in mind the validity of what I'm posting. Local news reporting similar stuff as well but things are,  needless to say, a bit confusing there right now.

5th grade teacher arrested after admitting to active 'kill list' of students and staff

A fifth grade teacher has been arrested after telling one of her students that she had made a "kill list" with students she taught and her colleagues.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, officers from the East Chicago Police Department were dispatched to speak with the principal and assistant principal of St. Stanislaus School -- located about 20 miles south of downtown Chicago -- in reference to a threatening report that school officials had learned about earlier in the day regarding fifth grade teacher Angelica Carrasquillo-Torres, a 25-year-old educator from Griffith, Indiana.

"At approximately 12:45 p.m. a 5th grade student told his/her Counselor that their 5th grade teacher made comments to him/her about killing herself, students, and staff at St. Stanislaus School," East Chicago Police Department said in a statement released on social media. "The teacher further told the student that she has a list and that he/she was on the bottom of that list."

School officials said the teacher was immediately escorted to the principal's office to discuss the disturbing incident and subsequently admitted to them that she did make those statements to the student and also confirmed that she had a "kill list."

"During the conversation the teacher named a specific student on her list, but did not provide the list," authorities confirmed. "The Principal then advised the teacher to leave and not return to school pending an investigation."

The East Chicago Police Department said it was not notified by the school until approximately four hours after the incident and the teacher was freely allowed to leave the premises. However, once officers were notified, they immediately notified the Criminal Investigation Division, which obtained an emergency detention order for the educator from the Lake County Prosecutor's Office.

Family tried to take gun from St. Louis school shooting suspect: Police

The family of the 19-year-old suspect accused of opening fire in a St. Louis, Missouri, high school had recently removed the firearm used in the deadly school shooting from their home, but the teen somehow got ahold of it again, authorities said Wednesday.

One student and one teacher were killed in the Monday morning shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School. Several others were injured.

The suspect, Orlando Harris, who police said was armed with an AR-15-style rifle and more than 600 rounds of ammunition when he "forced entry" into the building, died during an exchange of gunfire, according to St. Louis Police Commissioner Michael Sack.

Sack told reporters during a news conference Wednesday that the family had previously contacted the department about a firearm discovered in the home.

On Oct. 15, police responded to a domestic disturbance at Harris' home because the "suspect's mother had located a firearm in the home and wanted it removed," St. Louis Sgt. Charles Wall said in an update Wednesday evening.

Police determined that Harris legally possessed the gun, and a "third party known to the family" took the gun so it was no longer stored in the home, Wall said.

"While it is not yet clear when or how the suspect came to be in possession of the firearm after this incident, we can confirm that the firearm involved in this incident is the firearm used in the shooting Monday," Wall said.

On 7/7/2022 at 11:13 AM, China said:

Defense wants to exclude Nikolas Cruz’s swastikas, racial slurs, animal abuse, child porn searches

A photograph showed an etched swastika on the AR-15 rifle that detectives said Nikolas Cruz used during the 2018 Valentine’s Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The investigation also revealed Cruz displayed swastikas on his boots and a racial slur on his backpack. On the internet, he searched for mass killings and child pornography, and he shared animal abuse on social media, prosecutors said.

Cruz’s lead defense attorney, Melisa McNeill, asked Broward County Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer to keep this evidence away from the 12 jurors and 10 alternates who will serve in the upcoming death penalty trial.

“There is no evidence that these crimes were sexually or racially motivated, the only purpose the State could have in presenting such evidence would be to inflame the jury,” Cruz’s defense attorneys wrote in a motion.

Scherer considered the motion during a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale. Prosecutors argued that introducing the evidence during the death penalty trial is necessary to disprove the defense’s claim of Cruz’s intellectual disability.

“It is not a pretty picture; it is an ugly picture, but that is who the defendant is,” Assistant State Attorney Jeff Marcus said during the hearing.

The prosecution’s witness, Michael Brannon, a Coral Springs-based forensic psychologist, said he reviewed the records in the case and the evidence suggests a diagnosis of mental disorders.

Parkland Parents Lose It Over Nikolas Cruz’s Attorney Flipping the Bird

In the final hours of the two-day sentencing hearing for Nikolas Cruz, the gunman who killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the family members of some of his victims had the chance to fiercely confront not only him but his defense team for their behavior before, during, and after the trial.

“This man, this animal, this piece of ****, this **** took the lives of 17 people,” seethed Michael Schulman, the father of slain Parkland teacher Scott Beigel. “You have a right to defend him. You have no right, no right to demean the people who lost somebody. None.

At another point in his Wednesday statement, Schulman referenced a moment caught on a court camera weeks earlier. Just before a pre-trial hearing, one of Cruz’s attorneys, Tamara Curtis, noticed a cameraperson manually adjust their setup to focus on their table. She raised her middle finger, rubbing it on her cheek. Cruz then appeared to smother a laugh.

“Zealous representation of a confessed murderer does not mean flipping the bird when you think the cameras aren’t on you,” Schulman said. “You should be embarrassed.”

Manuel Oliver, whose son Joaquin, 17, died after being shot four times, calmly lifted his own middle finger at Cruz’s counsel during his testimony, scoffing at them for “hiding your actions.”

Continuing to address them, Oliver added that after the nearly four-week, livestreamed trial, “a lot of people will hate all of you guys now.”
