Most of the elections since 2016 prove that the nation doesn't want the far right fascist policies of Republicans. Only a small portion of the nation wants fascism that the Republicans are pushing through voter registration and supression tactics. Really? Did you see Beto win Texas? Shirley win Gerogia. The more progressive style candidate like AOC win in swing districts/GOP districts. If you did, then you are correct. Until those candidates or those views win elections everywhere; then this country isn't there yet. If the Dems are all pure progressives, then why is AOC and the various groups around her; looking to primary Dems in 2020?

Tbf, Felito won his seat in 2012 by 1.3 million votes (with Sadler getting 3.1 mil voted that election). Felito barely got more votes this time (+216k) in 2018 vs 2012 but Beto pulled in an additional 830k votes than Sadler did in 2012. Cruz still won that election by 200k votes..but it looks like the GOP hold on that seat is shrinking fast. That and/or Beto is just that good. LD0506
Ok, here's my morning coffee ramble on the conversation......... People keep pulling up individual data points and saying "See?", ie. "Well Beto lost in Texas so that can't work!" yadda yadda yadda...... I am viewing this differently, bigger picture, broader focus as it were. 2016 was a political perfect storm, yes Hillary had a lot of baggage and yes, a lot of the baggage was tailor made for her by others for their own partisan reasons and yeah, the Russians did interfere (we are WAY past even arguing that) but were probably shocked at the effect it had and just how willingly gullible and stupid vast swaths of the populace here was (is). The list goes on, but in a hindsight is 20/20 way, it is history and irrelevant in terms of divining the future. The VA state elections were a bellweather, huge numbers of people were fired up and got involved, riding the energy of the Womens March, etc., and they found success that surprised everyone. More women shook off their "What the hell can I do?" and ran in '18 and all the other special elections and again, found success in places no one expected. There has been a building level of interest and engagement by the largest bloc in the electorate, those that have allowed themselves to be convinced by the powers that be that they cannot have a say or make a difference. The Ds are, The Rs are, but both are dwarfed by the sheer numbers of people that have for the longest time been dispirited and disenfranchised into inaction. Now we're looking ahead to '20 and another presidential election but millions have been jostled out of their stupor to look to elections across the spectrum and ask themselves "Why NOT me?", and that's something that isn't registering on anyones detectors or getting much if any discussion. The Rs have not been winning by pulling bigger numbers, they have seized control by motivating their base and suppressing everyone else. Rs don't win because they deny the vote to African Americans (although they do) or denying the vote to Latinos (although they do), their strongest weapon has been apathy and discouragement targeted at everyone that is not already infected with their rhetoric. The biggest blunder the Ds made was conceding so many offices by not even trying, leaving a vacuum that has been populated by crazies on the right. Stop even talking to the Trumpies and that irredeemable 20% that would gladly revoke the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th Amendments, hell they'd revoke the Emancipation Proclamation if they could. They are beyond saving and at this point IMO they do not deserve saving. Address that huge bloc of people in the middle that do not participate. Recognize why they don't, it isn't because they don't care or are lazy (an inconsequential % are but don't matter), make your arguments to those people in what used to be the American middle class that they can make a difference, they can actually see improvement in their own lives and the lives of others by getting off their asses and helping because we are at a historical turning point where old systems and old regimes have been weakened and undermined and their control is slipping. We should not be arguing about "SOMEONE ought to DO something!!", we should be asserting our own rights and responsibilities to DO something ourselves. We can, we have all the tools we need if we use them.
