Ross has earned the Heck out of that roster spot. PS Spencer. I'd be fine with letting Roberts go as well.

I'm with you on this, Kool. Plus, I was reading some of the other NFL team's needs & slot receiver was mentioned a couple of times. With the way Ross has played this preseason there's no way he slips through the cracks to the PS.

Someone else in this thread mentioned the ES love for Spencer. I haven't seen every minute of the preseason games but I've never seen Spencer stand out while watching. If it's ST play vs. WR play, maybe Spencer has the edge? He's certainly bigger but I'm not sure how he's done.

With Ross' speed, damn, I'd love to see both DJax & Ross on the field split wide on different sides a couple of times a game.

I don't think he needs to be top 10. I think that's jumping the gun a bit. What he needs to do is just be competant. Just run the offense and execute and use the weapons around you. Sometimes I think Kirk tries to be a gunslinger, when all he needs to do is play smart, move the ball and put points up.

I don't think so either. But the way this whole thing has played out, if Cousins isn't a borderline Pro Bowler, this whole exercise with Cousins is going to get blasted to high heaven. People are chomping at the bit to say "I told so!" that Cousins isn't any good.

The way I see it, the expectations for Kirk should really be kinda low. A 4th rd pick that's been uneven at best in his career. If he can be a top 14-18 guy, that's probably where he should be. Maybe if things break well around him with defense and ST, he can be 10-15. I think we'll take that, cuz that means we should have won a little bit.

I know I keep repeating myself on this, but everyone really should read it. I think it'll help you understand why the QB job was won, not given and that we may, for once in a long time, actually have our guy. Get excited.

We read this summer that Griffin improved as well. We heard from Terry Shea in the past that Griffin was amazing. I guess I'm just not willing to conjure up a bunch of excitement over what a guys qb coach is saying. After all, he is paid by Kirk and stands to gain from Kirks success. I don't expect him to say he sucks or hasn't improved under his watch.

No it was won because we hired a coach who got to much credit for developing a still average Andy dalton..I said it and Ryan Clark said it best jay wasn't ready for this job...when dust settles we'll be in top 10 of 2016 draft...drafting yet another qb...anybody who thinks Kirk is answer should be going thru concussion protocols with rg3

I will take an average Andy Dalton season this year in a heartbeat for Kirk.

Happy birthday to Larry.  Everybody deserves a good birthday.

Now, I see you as a huge part of the media relations mess that the 'Skins have had over the years, so if you could please get the hell out, that would be great.  Thanks.

Not sure our running game has been working well enough for us to maintain that ratio.

(I wish that it was. Just don't think it has been.)

My very quick thought on the running game:

Last year, starting about mid-season, they really tried to "stay committed" to the running game.  This, to them, meant running on virtually every first down.  I think it was the Minnesota game where they ran on every first down except 2.  There were other games that were similar.

The issue is that they were really, really, really bad at running on first down.  I don't like average in this scenario, because 1 good run can skew the average.  But the "mode" (for those that haven't been in elementary school math in a while, the number that appears the most often in the set), was ~1 yard.  Something like 70% of the runs were between -2 and positive 2 yards on first down.  THAT makes it IMPOSSIBLE to "commit to the run." Because if you're in 2nd and 8+, you almost have to call a pass to get into a situation to convert a 1st down.

The best way to "commit to the run" would be

1. Mix it up: Run on 1st and 2nd downs, but not always on 1st .

2. Run in obvious passing situations occasionally.

3. Pass in obvious running situations occasionally.

4. Increase the number of productive runs.  This means runs of 3+ yards or more.

If you do those things, you can commit to the run.  If you don't, you're going to constantly be "behind the sticks" and it's going to be much harder.

Because I don't think anybody wants to see run-run-pass-punt, which we saw so often in the Gibbs 2.0 years

I dont think Jones has looked a better fit, its just Jones hasnt had to run against first team DLinemen.  If you watched Morris last game, the issue he had was getting hit in the backfield multiple times for a big loss.  That really came from two big sources.  First, while Compton was playing TE he missed multiple blocking assignments, showing that is a work in progress.  Second, Licht kept getting blown back massively into the backfield.  He is a huge liability at C against big NTs.  I watched a number of players where everyone else hit their assignment, but just either he, or Compton, or both didnt, and while the rest of the line had a good push, it blew up the entire play.

I thought this was the name of Grossman's passing academy.

Christensen, who runs the “Throw It Deep” passing academy, worked with Cousins on maintaining a steady base to throw from, regardless of what pressure the defense was bringing or what happened on previous snaps.
