Giants player Odell Beckham punching people during last week's game against the Bills, no penalties handed down.  Giants owner Mara is head of competition committee.

“They were doing everything in the book they could to try to get a free 15," Brown said. "They would say anything they thought would rile us up. Words usually don’t do anything, but when they start swinging at you — they did that a lot. They were throwing a lot of cheap shots.”

Not that this was a total surprise to the guys in this locker room.

Players saw on the Giants/Redskins film from the previous week that Beckham does this often after the whistle. Such cheap shots, they say, are a major part of his game.

Excellent!   Justice!!  even if it's one week late I'll take it. Hard to let it slide when there's video of it i suppose.  I wonder what the Bills saw on the game film from when the Giants played us that tipped them off?

I find it very interesting that one of the biggest stories of this season has been the abundance of flags thrown by referees in games and the amount of controversial calls that we have seen only 5 weeks into the season.  In fact this season the NFL set a record for most penalties in league history after just 3 weeks.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25321546/nfl-sets-record-for-most-penalties-in-league-history-through-week-3

The NFL has had controversial calls in almost every primetime game this season that falls under referee discretion.  Reversed touchdowns, game clock mismanagement, unneccessary roughness penalties, late flags picked up and then reversed.

When looking at this trend of higher referee involvement, I asked myself what has changed this season compared to years past?  The answer?  Draft Kings.  Before this season started, Draft Kings and the NFL players association signed a huge deal that allowed players to be used for marketing purposes.

http://www.legalsportsreport.com/4412/draftkings-deal-with-nflpa/

http://money.cnn.com/2015/09/29/news/draftkings-nfl-players-fantasy-football/

My hypothesis is that the NFL and the referees are controlling games and outcomes in order to ensure a higher amount of "big plays" by their superstar players.  If the play is a bust, throw a flag, let them replay and hope for a more exciting outcome.  Fantasy players not putting up enough points?  Don't call penalties on them when they're on offense, or try to shave time off the clock so the game will go to overtime.  How many times already this season have we seen major plays get reversed by a flag thrown for something that is "non reviewable", or something that is not discovered until after the game has already been concluded?

Allowing Fantasy relevant players like NE Patriots to get away with illegal picks for higher fantasy points?

http://dal.247sports.com/Bolt/Did-Patriots-get-away-with-illegal-pick-play-for-TD-on-Cowboys-40176120

I've noticed already this season how often late flags seem to come in after a play is already over, basically giving the refs a chance to redo a certain play after they've already seen the outcome of the play.  And now today, the NFL is making Twitter suspend all accounts that use game footage.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2015/10/12/twitter-suspends-deadspin-and-sbnationgif-accounts-allegedly-at-nfls-behest/?tid=sm_tw_ps

Why?  Because people are drawing attention to all of the "mistakes" the refs are making and are able to provide video footage of it to the entire world.  This morning all anyone was talking about was the missing 18 seconds from the end of the Steelers game.  I'm still not convinced Odell Beckham, one of the most fantasy relevent players in the game today, gets fined if there wasn't video footage of him punching another player that got posted online days before a fine was eventually handed out.  According to the Bills they saw him doing it all game against the Redskins and he wasn't called on it either during or after the game.

By cracking down on these "unauthorized" game films, the NFL is trying to minimize the amount of game film that can be re-watched by the public that has not been prescreened by them.

Draft Kings and FanDuel are already in hot water for allowing their employees to play games using insider information.  A class action suit has already been filed for false advertising and for misrepresenting their online games as "fair".

http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id/13840184/class-action-lawsuit-accuses-draftkings-fanduel-negligence-fraud-false-advertising

Is it so unlikely that the NFL, who just signed a huge deal with them right before the season started, is not benefiting from these companies financially?  What's to stop a team employee from setting up an account and betting on their team?  What's stopping a trainer using his inside information on a certain players health?  What's to stop someone like John Mara, who is head of the competition committee, to allow refs to manage a game a certain way that enables high scoring fantasy numbers?  Or let teams that are "expected to win" get away with illegal tactics in order to ensure that they fullfill their fantasy quota?  Or from calling a "tight game" that allows for more turnovers, interceptions, and play negating penalties.  Or letting a clock wind down so players can get higher totals in overtime?

Fantasy games are categorized as "games of skill" to avoid the gambling label, does this mean that there is no rule on file that could prevent referees themselves from playing as well?  The below article talks about some of the restrictions for refs, and while they are not allowed to bet on games during the season, there is no mention of fantasy games or bets related to individual players.

Relating to my above post, here's an amazing article about the NFL's stance on gambling, its reliance on sports betting, as well as different ways the system could be abused.

http://scholars.law.unlv.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1061&context=glj

Some highlights:

Replacement Refs:

"In fact, the referee lockout is effectively a case study that flies directly in the face of the NFL’s position on sports betting ruining the integrity of the game. The referees are ultimately the NFL’s method of preserving the integrity of the game by fairly officiating, which is done by calling penalties that put teams on equal footing and by protecting players with penalties for actions that could hurt other players.

By using inexperienced replacement officials, the NFL arguably sacrificed the integrity of the game to stand firm during negotiations. In many articles, the replacement officials were criticized, highlighting their mistakes or lamenting their continued use.

Yet, the NFL’s television ratings did not suffer. This suggests that the demand for NFL football is inelastic, such that people will watch the games even when it is suggested that the contests are unfair and sullied by the use of inexperienced officials. This flies directly in the face of the NFL’s argument that the integrity of the game is tied to people’s interest in the game"

On Injury Reports:

"If a major player for a team is hurt, the point spread on that game could be affected significantly. Some may argue that the injury policy is to protect players, but the injury policy does not add to player safety; just because players are listed does not mean they cannot play in the next game. In fact, an argument could be made that the policy decreases player safety by announcing player injuries and allowing opposing players to target those injuries, which would add to their severity. The most logical reason that the NFL has this rule is for gamblers to know that they can bet with full knowledge about who is likely to play and not to play"

On Sports Betting:

"Without gambling, it is arguable whether the NFL would have ever reached its current level of success and whether the NFL could maintain that level of interest if sports betting disappeared. Nevertheless, whether the NFL originally embraced gambling is irrelevant. The NFL has undeniably benefitted from gambling and, because of this, has positioned itself as a quasi-partner with the sports betting industry.

Although the NFL’s stance on gambling seems contradictory on the surface, it is evident that the NFL and the sports betting industry share a mutually beneficial relationship. The NFL receives increased popularity and television ratings for its games and the sport betting industry benefits from the NFL operating its league free of charge to them. For this reason, any action taken by the NFL that, on the surface, seems to oppose gambling beneath the surface likely contains an ulterior motive to further gambling. Though starting a business that ninety years later generates an annual $9.5 billion appears to be a wildly successful gamble, the best bet for the NFL is actually made every fall and winter with bookmakers around the world.

Looking at these arguments, is it so hard to imagine the NFL would jump at the chance to use Fantasy Football, the new form of sports gambling conveniently labeled a "game of skill", to its advantage before any loopholes get closed through federal mandates or policy updates?

While I'm happy we got the win, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't log that atrocity of game clock management at the end of the Bucs game. I'll preface this by saying we got more than enough fair calls this game, but this one play could have EASILY affected the outcome of this game:

- Redskins need to keep Bucs from scoring a field goal in order to win. 12 seconds left on the game clock, Bucs run a play across the middle which should in theory run out any time left on the clock.

- Instead, the play clock does not begin rolling until after the play has already concluded. Pretty convenient way for the Bucs to squeeze an extra play in...

- Despite everyone watching at home knowing that the play took waaaay longer than 7 seconds to unfold, the refs claim that there is still 5 seconds left to play in the game.

- Had the Bucs running back not attempted to lateral it to another player, the resulting confusion would have allowed the refs to call an official timeout and reset the game clock to 5 seconds with the Bucs in field goal range on first down. They would have had a chance to kick a field goal for the win.

- I don't think the officials would be allowed to assume the Bucs would run out of time before spiking the ball in order to stop the clock. My admittedly amateur guess would be that because of the clock mismanagement they would have allowed these 5 seconds to stay on the clock and start the play clock up again once the Bucs went to the line of scrimmage. This would give the Bucs enough time to spike the ball to stop the clock, then attempt a long field goal on second down.

This happened just one week after the Steelers game where the clock was left unattended. I'm happy we got the win, but this is definitley worth noting.

The clock management was terrible. But you can't ignore the amount of penalties the Bucs took. And a few of them were questionable in my opinion, especially the offensive pass interference on Evans that negated a TD. That was huge. If there was any conspiracy in this game, it was in our favor.

Well, look at his clothes.  What color are they?

PATRIOTS colors.  This freak of nature was being groomed since he was a young child to play for the New England Patriots.

Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of all NFL players against fantasy football site FanDuel...

...the receiver alleges that FanDuel “knowingly and improperly exploits the popularity and performance of Garçon, along with all the other National Football League (“NFL”) players at offensive skilled positions without their authority or a valid license. In addition, through a comprehensive television advertising campaign, Defendant FanDuel routinely uses the names and likenesses of some of these NFL players without authorization to promote FanDuel’s commercial enterprise, collecting huge revenues from entry fees.”

Week 8, Saints vs. Giants

- Saints d lline sacks Manning and forces a fumble.  Giants were down by 14 at this point and this play most likely puts the game out of reach.

- Refs call a holding penalty away from the ball on Saints secondary, Giants retain the ball.

- Giants score a few plays later and pull within 7

seriously favorable call by the refs.  I suppose its comforting to know the refs favor the Giants every game, and not just when they're playing the Redskins.

The irony is that Garcon is one of the worst WRs in fantasy and I bet is never on anyone's team with his whooping 9 yards per catch

The end of this Packers Lions game really looked like it was fixed to give the Packers every possible advantage to win.

Second week in a row it seems like the Packers are getting way too many lucky breaks to keep them in it at the end of the game. This week the Lions kicker looks like he was paid to miss the kick his teammates stop the Packers on 4th down and he's not happy he looks like he's worried about his thumbs getting broken lol.

That roughing call on Rogers was ridiculous too refs giving them all sorts of extra time. Miss the 2 point conversion? Don't worry they'll figure out a way to give the Packers another chance to win. Suprise suprise onside kick.

Can't believe Crosby missed the freebie. Someone's gonna be pissed lol. Packers losing 3 straight is definitely costing someone some money.

I have one...

NFL says to Dan Snyder "We cant make you change your name...but get ready for a terrible schedule until you do!"

Redskins "Eh...what can you do?"

NFL - How about you face 3 times coming off their bye.... (Jets, Bucs, and Giants).

How about you face two teams coming off a Thursday night game in addition to that (So they get 3 extra days of rest. Patriots and Cowboys).  How about we minimize the advantage you get from your bye by scheduling the Patriots, away, after you bye..and in fact, have them play the Thursday night before so you really only get a slight extra rest....

Redskins "DUUUUU"
