  1. Question -May have been answered in here. How many coaches have FINAL say in Players and are successful? I think its pretty rare, although it was a growing trend for a while, but not many were successful with it. Bill Belichick does but without Tom Brady -how successful is he? Andy Reid I believe does and that would be the exception to the rule. Any one else? My theory - When a coach has final say -He has his "System" and he sticks with it and he pulls only players he thinks will fit into that system. And if they don't, then he changes players. When the GM has the final say -I think that a coach may have a system, but the GOOD coaches then adjust based on the players they have. They go with "Well -My system can't work because of these players and since I can't change players -I better adapt". All this is to say Is i hope, and believe, the plan is fire Ron and Wright right after cowboys game, hire a GM on monday (I suspect our next GM is already known), and then the GM is told to find a coach who will NOT have final say.
  2. My Hope -In a season that isnt going anywhere and where we can look back and say "IF we only beat the worst 2 teams in the league, we are in playoff positions" the one shinning moment would be the shocking upset of the Cowboys on a national Televised game. Think 2014 Monday night against Cowboys. One of only 4 wins for us and one of only 4 losses for Cowboys. My Realistic thought? Would be shocked if Cowboys don't drop 50 on us. Cowboys 52 -Commanders 24, with 14 of those coming in last 8 mins. Other Predictions At least 4 passes of over 25 are completed by the cowboys with no defender within 5 yards "And ANOTHER Blown Coverage" One of their Receivers will have beaten our guy on a deep route, the ball will hit his hands and drop it as our defender does nothing to alter the play, but then gets up and celebrates as if he made a great play. Cowboys will convert at least one 3rd and 20+ My Step dad will tell me the team should move to Albuquerque My Sister will say "Don't they always lose to the cowboys every year on Thanksgiving?" My Brother in law, will watch 1 qtr of the team since 2020 and say "They still need a QB" My Brother in laws mom (I don't know what that is) will tell me a story where she once meet and had dinner with a Washington QB, but after a few mins of others asking details about who, it will turn out to be a soccer player from Canada who played 1 year in college and whose name was Washington.
  3. Just a reminder to all. 5 picks in the 1st 3 rounds only matters if we draft well. Considering we have shown we can't draft in the 1st round well, Im not sure I have faith that we will. Obviously Im banking on having a new GM and hope Im wrong.
  4. I got a question of you all that go. I stopped going to games in 2017 as the experience was just so bad. Went to Giants sunday night last year only cause i had a suite and I still swore I would NEVER go back. However i was told there were some improvements and i got offered 2 great tickets yesterday So i went. Although I was ashamed and how it was a majority Eagle fans and embarrassed about our Defense, the Stadium experience itself was 1000x times better. Getting in and out was night and day different. The look and feel of the stadium - Just looked better (Fresh paint, fixed chairs, etc). Wasnt impressed with the food but that is prob more Levy Restaurants fault then the team. But everything else was so much better no longer will refuse to go. But i have one question. I saw these seats. Maybe they were always there (I feel like last time I was there those were standing room) but they seemed new. They seem like some of the best seats in the house. But looking at Stub hub none of them seem to be for sale. Anyone know what these seats are called? Do they sell individual tickets for these (They are in the club level). Are they their own tickets? (Which is what I had assumed but seemed odd that NO one resells those tickets).
  5. You right. That should be on my list. Not just that but if I remember correctly he flew the entire team to the funeral and then back for the game. And yes -I should have put "When he announced he reached a deal to sell the team" on there!
  6. So Dan Snyder will finally be gone in a couple hours! Like all 'Skins fans I'll be extremely happy. There are a thousand lists on Snyder's WORST moments (and there are probably more then 1000 examples) but here's my twist of the day. Dan Snyder's (Few and far between) best moments (or at least ones that made us fans happy for a little while)! 1. When he purchased the team. Hindsight is 20/20 but there wasn't a single skins fan that wasn't happy when he purchased it. A local guy who grew up as a HUGE fan. Most of us by 1999 were tired of hearing how Norv Turner was this "Great offensive mind" Norv was entering his 5th year and had records of 3-13, 6-10, 9-7, 8-7-1, and then in his previous year started 0-7 before finishing 6-10. There was fighting between Norv and Charley Casserly and the hand pick QB of Health Shuler was a bust. Snyder came in, fired Charley and Told Norv he was in charge and prove it. Skins finished 10-6, made playoffs for first time since 92 and we got excited. 2. Offseason for 2000. I know. We all look back and say Snyder was too involved. This is where he screwed up. But at the time, you are lying if you pretend you weren't excited! We were signing EVERYONE! Salary cap? Whatever! All the big names were coming to us! We were a very popular SB favorite and all of us were eating it up!! It didnt work out (Although I would argue that it was so close to working out. We started 6-2, finished 8-8 and lost 3 games by a FG or less, where we missed a late FG. If we had a better FG kicker AND Just said Brad Johnson was our Starting QB - We go 11-5 or better. 3. Joe Gibbs 2.0. By 2004 we knew that this was not going well. Danny boy was too involved and making the wrong choices. He was surrounding himself by yes man and it was hurting. We needed a coach and is sure looked like we were gonna get Jim Fassell! The mood was not great, then all of a sudden, it all changed. Joe Gibbs was returning!! Somehow, Snyder did the impossible!! There is still debate about if Gibbs 2.0 was successful or not (To me -2 playoffs appearances including a playoff win in 4 years vs 3 playoffs, no wins, in the 16 years since shows it was successful) but regardless -On THAT day - It felt like all would be ok. 4. 2012. Many of us had Doubts about trading for RG3 (I still hold it over my son that after the trade I said I would rather sign Payton Manning, who was interested in coming) but for 1 year it looked like it was all gonna work out. By now we knew Danny Boy was a cancer -But maybe just maybe he learned his lesson? Mike Shanahan was now running the show (Or at least we thought), we for the first time we had a TRUE Franchise QB! This guy was gonna change the game and we were gonna ride this multiple super bowls! Even after the playoff loss the future seemed so bright. The Redskins were NOT a unpopular SB pick for 2013. That's it. 24 seasons, 4 good Snyder moments I can think of. Other then that -I hope to block out the last 24 seasons and hopeful replace them with better memories!!
  7. Everyone - Stop worrying about the sale. Never mind. I read the link wrong. But I agree with previous poster. A 8b sale will not get held up by this.
  8. It's pretty amazing that Rivera and the Washington football team can still manage to finish .500 in a 17 game season! 😂
  9. Poor Sam Howell. He has yet to step on the field but half the posters have not already decided he's not a starting QB, they have already decide that even if he has a monster game on his first chance, it still doesn't matter.
  10. Where did you hear this? I cant find anything about it.
  11. They reason they wont do that is because that would give the NFC #1 team a unfair advantage due to a extra bye week.
  12. Let me give the reasons why this may make sense. 1 -Makes up for lost revenue via ESPN from monday night 2- Makes the TV happy (And they pay most of the money). 3- Makes the sponsors happy (And they pay the TV most of the money). 4- Makes fans happy (For some teams, like us). 5- Makes players happy - 106 guys will get a extra paycheck 6 -Makes 2 owners happy - More playoff money 7 -NFL hates teams that tank. This sends a message to play every game to win regardless if you think you are out. Sam Howell will be the one person who is EXTREMELY unhappy however.
  13. QUICK!! SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL RIVERA!!!
  14. To me it was Rivera. I'll explain Marty -As a Coach -I thought he learned and only had 1 year. Getting that team to 8-8 was not a dissapointment Spurrier - He said who he was and the results were disappointing, but he was clear that he wanted to not focus on X's and O's, not work 100 hours a week, and just go fun and gun. It didnt work out but he did what he said he would do. Gibbs -2 playoff appearances and a playoff win in 4 years. By all measure he was the most successful coach under Snyder Zorn -expected nothing and got nothing Shanahan -He is #2. I was very disappointed, esp how it ended. Gurden - He is #3. But i didn't know what to expect. He was a very good offensive coach! He just wasn't a leader. I wish he was our OC now. Rivera -Here is why I am disappointed. Because he came right as Snyder was FINALLY giving up control (Not always by choice). He also came right at a time where the aftermath of the trade for RG3 was finally over. Lots of Salary cap room, AND there was a "Reset" in the NFC east. ALL the teams were rebuilding. No one was light out above any other team. FINALLY we had a real football guy who was focused and had all the tools given to him and had the right time to actually take us back to respectability (WHich I think he did) and move us to winning. But then he started making dumb choices (Singing Fritz for 10m. Giving up 3 draft picks. Signing way to many ex CAR coaches and players. Letting Brandon Scherff walk simply to afford Wentz. And then sitting TH against the browns in a must win game. I am trying to avoid Recent bias play a part here -and Shanahan was close, but Shanahan had other things going against him.
  15. I was gonna give that HM. Def worst play call ever. but had no effect. We were getting crushed 24-0 in a seasons where we were 4-12 and lost 45-12 To steal from Sammy Baugh - If he didn't call it it absolutely would have changed everything. We would have lost 45-15. (Best Redskins quote after. When the Skins played the Bears and lost 73-0 in '41 (I think) on opening drive there was a wide open Redskin in the end zone but Sammy Baughs pass hit the goal post. After game a reporter asked him if they had scored a TD would it have changed the outcome of the game. He deadpanned the answer. "Absolutely. The result would have been 73-6"
  16. My guess, this is Rivera trying to help TH. Remember TH makes 100k for every game he starts and they win. I suspect have him start. Play no more then a half. Give him a chance to get some extra cash. https://twitter.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1610638174744903681?t=BApdO85urPxvaYeQLYrQfA&s=19
  17. But it does mean that TH was the best chance to win yesterday. And I know you wm fall back in "we lose with TH as well" but that is based on ignoring that TH never looked that bad and ignoring that TH never lost to a non playoff team this year. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Start Sam this week and if we keep Rivera, TH is not back anyway.
  18. Just to be clear. His "failure" in both games included a 101 and a 98 QBR against a 9-6 team fighting for playoffs that included two game tying drives of over 80 yards in the final 2 mins (one of which didn't punch it in do to a bad call) Vs Wentz, what was it? 38 QBR against a 6-10 team playing out the string. Even not playing 20/20 hindsight most of Wentz games to start the year were not as good as TH "Blown games" Again, not arguing TH is a top 10, or even top 20 qb. But anyone who has eyes and not just going on "analytics" knew that TH gave the team a better chance to win going into the game. And even if you thought Wentz could come out strong, by the 1st drive in the 3rd qtr it was painfully clear that TH was the teams only chance va leaving Wentz in there.
  19. When wentz was healthy Rivera said that whoever he picked as his QB would have his full commitment. But after 2 turnovers (one def not his fault) against the #1 defense in the league, despite having one of his best games, he got pulled. Meanwhile 3 turnovers, a terrible performance against the worst defense in the league and Wentz stayed in the game. TH should be pissed at Rivera.
  20. I have watched every snap he has taken and every snap he hasn't taken with this team. He is not great. He will not be single handed taking us to the promise land. But the analytics are flat wrong. Wentz arm strength, build, etc meet nothing. He was 2-5. TH doesn't have what is on paper but there was not a game he played where they looked as bad as they did yesterday! In fact, the team being so bad yesterday shows your how important TH actual was to their success. It was the same coaching. The same OL, the same Defense and it was the worst performance since, well, since the last game Wentz started. With the season on the line, looking at the 6 games Wentz had started vs the 9 TH had started, 90% of the NFL coaches would have started TH and the 10% that would have gone Wetnz, would have made a change in the 3rd qtr. TH will get offers to be a backup with the promise that if he goes in and wins, they won't make a change simply because of a contact. To be honest, anyone after yesterday who is still arguing that TH should not have started is telling you not to believe your eyes.
  21. Yes. That is exactly what I mean. Call em up, see if anyone is interested in a major trade. This is assuming you can even Resign TH. If Rivera stays and I'm TH I go to anyone who would give me a honest chance to play, even as a backup, and not look for a excuse to pull me. If that happens then you need to look at a Jimmy G, Carr, or Mayfield.
  22. TH is obviously not the long term answer. But my thoughts is this. Play Howell, and if he just looks ok. Do the following Cut Wentz. Go after a tip 5 QB. Like taking Lamar Jackson. That level only. If there is any doubt that it may not work, don't. If you don't land that, you spend the money on OL, and depth at Linebacker and secondary. Ride with TH and SH next year. Let them compete (although TH will get some offers and unless Rivera is fired, TH simply may not want to stay no matter what we offer). No. I don't think that gets us to the Super Bowl. But there is no doubt that if you had done that this year, instead of going after Wentz, we are a 10 win team, playoffs, and a attractive team for a QB.
  23. You are remembering incorrectly. He was ready to go and coaches sub'd him out.
  24. That excuse makes no sense. He was too banged up for 4th and 1 but as soon as we got the ball back he was ok for runs on 1st and 2nd down?
