I like JP Finley, the report between him and the rest of his crew is fun because they all dunk on him and his big ears. Plus, he's the only one plugged into what's going on in Ashburn. The Junks and Granny Panties are just making assumptions all the time.

JP and Mitch are the best thing that station has to offer. Never thought I'd say something like this a year or two ago, but the show has really grown on me.

The bold is not true at all.  Multiple Junkies have a lot of ins to the organization.

Do they? Last time I remember them having some bomb to drop it turned out to be a dud. Something about the Snyder investigations.

Who are their ins? I believe they USED to have those ins, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Actually I am wrong but about Grant Paulsen. He clearly has contacts. His voice is just the worst.

Can 980 please put on another morning show? I've tried giving the junkies a fair shot to win me back, but they are unlistenable these days with the constant whining about how dangerous cities are and how hard it is for spoiled millionaires to live life.

Uggh

Tried to give them a shot, but they're a rough listen for me, so I dont.  But they appeal to a certain demo that likes their schtick.

Junkies are horrendous but that one day I listened when Bret Michaels no showed they had some funny stuff.

I ****ing hate Brett Michaels, can't stand that untalented piece of ****. I remember when they said Michaels was coming up soon and I instinctively changed the station. Why are they bringing that asshole on anyways.

I have no clue who their contacts are but the definitely have some.  They've broken stories plenty of times in the past.  I know they have a lot of "off the record" conversations with people too but they can't say anything about a lot of stuff.

I’ll take your word for it. I haven’t listened for a long time so maybe back in the day they had more information. Last time they said they had a bombshell it was nothing.

The other thing I don’t like about the show is how much they talk about Golf but that’s because I don’t like golf.

I do appreciate their insights on basketball and hockey.

Overall it seems like they are just wanting to retire at this point. They talk a lot about how tired they are and how they are over waking up early.

He was doing a show at Hollywood Casino in West Virginia.

I just tuned into Junkies and they're talking about buying a suit. Boy I don't know...

To be fair it’s not like they can talk about playoff hockey or basketball. Not for local teams anyways. It hurts their ratings to have a town with bad teams.

Here is a fun little game. Set your own lineup for either a single sportstalk station or even all 3 in town. You can get anyone you want as hosts. Name the show, Name the Hosts. Decide how long each show is.

9-12: Bring Travis Thomas back. Need someone with his energy in the morning. I think he can run solo but if you wanna pair him with some novice producer that's fine too.

12-3: Reunite Kevin Sheehan with Chris Cooley. They were great together. The middle slot would be perfect for them.

3-6(or whenever I usually tune out after about 4): Al Galdi and Doc Walker. I think Galdi's modern analytical perspective would be a fun contrast to mega boomer Doc(and say what you will about Doc but he can be entertaining at times, just shouldn't carry a show himself).

I think Cooley was unofficially part of the culture stuff with Larry Michael and that's why he left town quickly.

Here is my lineup. I'd overpay to get SVP to do a local show. But that would never happen.

6-9: Sheehan and Galdi with Scott Linn to recap the previous day

10-12: Totally new show. If you want a former DC athlete. Don't get a football player. Hoops or Baseball. At least two hosts.

12-2: Bram with Smokin' Al and a former athlete. Maybe Bmitch here as the #3.

2-4: Younger crew for daytime experience. Maybe Lynell Willingham with some 20 somethings

4-7: Hoffman with Mike Callow (who is currently on Bram but fills in and does a really nice job). During football season, Logan Paulsen on daily.

Drive time shows are 3 hours. Everyone else is 2. Tried to mix older and younger. Don't live this lineup, really. Think they need better speakers on more than a few shows. Right now 4 hours for any show is way too much. I'd like more diversity in the background of hosts and former athletes. I like the shows who can talk hockey and hoops and baseball that make it enjoyable for listeners. That's a big ask. But some guys like Hoffman can do it. They watch, they know stats. They understand the rules of the game. They aren't dummy radio like Grant/Danny or idiot radio like Walker.

The only thing worse than the name is continually talking about the name. Everytime I've turned on 106.7 and the Nats weren't playing, lazy assed hosts are whining about the name, and inciting the worst callers available to spew their monosyllabic nonsense.

Shut the **** up about the name. It's here to stay. Grow up and move on!

I think analyzing the schedule in May.... or worse.....predicting a record in May... is the worst.

Yeah you're not wrong about that either, but at least it is only the talk for like a day or so when the schedule is released.

We get weeks of people talking about draft picks and their "mock drafts" that don't mean jack **** and then we have to hear about a different one.  Then after the draft they like to grade the draft for a week talking about how players we've never seen step on an NFL football field will perform in half a year.

I get that the NFL owns all, but draft talk is just the worst and lasts like a month.  I am glad it's over.

Unless you're Kevin Sheehan. Then it's like a 3 week series. This time of year is hard because only a few hosts can talk more than just football. That's what makes guys like Galdi with his podcast or Hoffman with his show different. They can talk 3 or 4 sports with some knowledge. I guess to be fair. Grant can do Hockey and Baseball. Actually much better than Football.

I'm not one to defend sports radio hosts (especially DC sports radio hosts), but what else is there to talk about?  The Nats are rebuilding, the Caps are done as a contender, and no one (and I mean literally NO ONE) gives a **** about the Wizards.  This time of the year is pure hell in sports talk radio world.  The NBA & NHL seasons are winding down, and we're not even at the 50 game mark yet in the MLB season.  MLB doesn't get interesting or relevant until after the All-Star break.  DC sports hosts are going to talk about whatever is going on with the football team (because unfortunately there is a lot of daily news about the football team these days).  Since DC sports suck right now across the board, the only thing left to talk about that delivers ratings is the football team.  The draft is over, the schedule has already been released, and FA has long since come to an end.  We're down now to rebranding talk, and QB talk for two months, until training camp.

This isn't 3-4 years ago, where we could spend a summer talking about a pennant race for the Nats, or what the Caps need to do to get to the Stanley Cup Finals.  Since both those teams are far removed from their heydays at the moment, that severely limits the diversity of discussion topics on DC sports radio this time of the year.

I dunno what they should talk about I'm not in the industry, but the constant same old draft talk sucks.  And you are acting like it doesn't happen every year, even when the Caps and Nats are relevant, because it does.  It's the same **** every year since I started listening to sports radio like 2 decades ago.  It's even worse now though because with social media so many more people think they have a platform.

And you are wrong about Wizards.  Go take a look at the thread on here.  People care.  You're the one that said "literally NO ONE" not me.

Uh, I don't know what to tell you, but NO ONE cares about the Wizards in this market.  They've been an irrelevant, poorly run franchise for the last 45 years.  Even when we had playoff teams a few years back with Wall + Beal, going to the 2nd round, DC sports radio only causally mentioned it.  Message Board talk is VERY different from actual sports radio talk.  The listeners in this area don't like hearing about or talking about basketball.  Even right now, with the NBA playoffs in full swing, how many segments does Sheehan or JP/B-Mitch devote to actual NBA talk? 1 or 2?  NBA is not high up on the listeners topic requests when calling into 980 or 106.7.  It sucks, because I'm a huge NBA fan, but the listeners here allegedly complain to Sheehan when he devotes a couple of segments during the regular season to talk about the Wizards, or even when he devotes a few segments to talk about the NBA in general.  I think Sheehan has talked about this before on air, how he wants to talk more about the NBA, but the feedback he gets from twitter or elsewhere pushes back on the NBA coverage, and wants him to talk about the NFL/Commanders.

People talk about the good old days of Ken Beatrice who was probably somewhat well versed enough across all sports, and that model of the solo host who lets the callers drive the show is the one that appeals to me, especially when I look back to growing up in the Philly suburbs. But then I remember that this was the pre-WIP days up there, and that the sports talk shows were ones largely held during the evening hours. I just wonder if there's enough content, especially in this market, to have a station that talks sports most of the day. I just find the multi-host format somewhat grating.

I'd be nice if they actually did that then too. When the Nats do get talked about, the takes are usually awful, twitter-idiot-fueled narratives, i.e. they tore down quicker than any team ever! Or they gave away Soto and Turner for nothing!

What. You didn’t enjoy Grant Paulsen’s three hours a week whining about Dusty Baker’s lineup construction? 🤣

No, talking about the NFL draft is the worst thing on sports radio.

Found something more annoying: The constant, repetitive talk about Chase Young. Holy ****, how many days in a row can you say the same thing about the same player?? There are other topics to talk about in the area. These shows are less creative than Mike Nolan's defense.
