How In The Hell Did Va Dems Nominate Mcauliffe For Governor?

Nah, I agree with you on that.  I just wanted to clarify that Christie isn't a moderate.  He is a pragmatic conservative.

Christie isn't a pragmatic conservative...  Christie is a conservative.    Obama is a pragmatic conservative which puts him to the left of Christie....

The difference between Christie and the house Whackadoodles who shutdown the government isn't one of policy, position or beliefs;  just competence.    It's the difference between a competent politician who wants to further his right wing agenda;  and incompetent guys throwing a tantrum who could care less about building any Republican brand.

Nope, not according to the people that re-elected Christie with over 60% of the vote. http://www.msnbc.com/all/christie-hillary-clinton-2016

A Hillary Clinton + Mark Warner ticket in 2016 would be damn near unstoppable, even if the Obamacare rollout continues to be such a headache.

I think Obama showed that Hillary Clinton is a fatally flawed candidate.   She's too willing to play it safe and bland and rely on her superior fund raising and old boy network to carry her across to victory.     This strategy frankly alienates people looking for leadership, and new ideas.  It leaves her open to getting eclipsed by charismatic lesser funded candidates.    Eclipsed in her own Democratic Primaries;   which would be magnified 10 fold in a general election against a very charismatic Chris Christi.

Today Christi is a better more seasoned politician than Hillary is..  Christi connects with people.. Hillary doesn't,  never has and never will.    Christie will also be viewed as the underdog in such a confrontation...    Christie would eat Hillary alive in 2016.

The only problem is which Christi would emerge from the GOP primary process...   2013 Chris Christi;   or some hyper partisan shadow of the Governor forced to disavow all of his accomplishments while in office.

Are we going to have another fatally flawed Democrat winning office only because the GOP's candidate left standing isn't a viable alternative.

Probable.

Tea Party already blaming GOP establishment, voter fraud and liberal media for the reason Cooch lost. It obviously couldn't be that no one wants their hate filled social conservative agenda.

These people are seriously deluded.

No, the scary part is that a whole lot of people actually do.

Christie vs Hillary would be epic

I should sue you for the mental image I just had.  :)

**** off.   :) Many of us are not tied to the Federal government. We're not like the oil companies and farmers.

Cucci didn't win in Northern Virginia even though he's from here;  because he didn't campaign in Northern Virginia.

He looked at the demographics and polls and he did what George Bush did.    He tried to energize his base in the low lands and hollers and he abandoned the two largest population centers of Virginia.   Northern Virginia, and Hampton Roads....

The government shutdown likewise didn't help him any in these areas where the government employes a lot of folks...

The GOP spin is going to be Cucci a for real severe conservative wasn't hurt badly by his radical positions.    The reality is Terry McAuliffe was a sock puppet with no experience,  no in state power base,  and who's only credential for office is he can milk millions of dollars out of dark rooms and old boys with hidden agenda's.     Hell McAuliffe hasn't even lived in Va very long and then only part time.

This race was between a bad choice with no experience... and a nut job; and the bad choice won narrowly.

If the Republicans had not allowed their candidate selection process to change from a primary to a convention in order to allow the less popular fire brand Cuccinellie to capture their nomination  we would all be witnessing a Bowling landslide victory this morning.     Another GOP victory abandoned in the name of demagoguery.

When are folks going to realize that the tea party aren't conservatives or even republicans.   They want to burn the house down rather than participate.    They don't care about the Republican party any more than they care about the country....    They just want it all to burn.

The GOP would have the majority of the senate today and several more governorships not to mention a functional house if not for the tea party.

This is interesting. Limbaugh rarely gets involved in Republican primary politics. The only instance of this I remember is 2000 when he basically declared war on McCain. And that only really occurred once it seemed possible that McCain would win.

But I think he has decided that Chris Christie needs to be destroyed. And he's decided it two and a half years before any campaign.

Now, you go to New Jersey.  The Democrats didn't even mount a real opponent.  Democrats never once attacked Chris Christie in that state.  Do you realize this?  I mean, if there was any opposition to Christie in that campaign, it was perfunctory and it was to make it look like there was some, but there was no real Democrat effort to unseat Christie.

Now, what does that tell you?  And now you've got so many people in the media celebrating the Christie win as the road to the future for the Republican Party.  What does that tell you?  For one, I'm tired of the media picking our candidates for us, and they're trying to do it here.  There were exit polls in New Jersey, ladies and gentlemen, and you may have heard this.  In New Jersey in an exit poll, Hillary Clinton beats Chris Christie in a presidential contest by four to six points.

Limbaugh help George W early and often in 2000, and I think he is going to do the same for Cruz this time around. He'll never openly back a candidate because he can never be in the position of picking a loser. But he can send big hints. And he can help to destroy the opposition.

Hey Republicans

Keep trotting out the vaginal probing gay bashing abortion clinic closing right wing nutjobs. It’s workin’ great!

It's insane really. I take solace knowing that the only reason cuccinelli got the nom is because the small minority got a rule changed and prevented a primary, which he would have lost badly.

Christie has no shot.

If the Romney team was too uncomfortable with him to put him on the ticket, he will get destroyed before the South Carolina primary.

If he does actually get to the General, Hillary's team, and the media that loves Christie right now, will completely slaughter him. Videos like him lecturing a teacher last week will be played over and over again.

Lastly, he is fat. Really really fat.

I have 4 reasons why Christie will not be president.

He won't be the Republican nominee because

1.  The Republican base, which will be a big factor, in the early primaries/caucuses will note vote for Christie.   Iowa will go to Ted Cruz or Rick Santorum.  New Hampshire will probably go for Rand Paul.  South Carolina will go for Ted Cruz or Rick Santorum.  Nevada might be a shot.  People will say, everyone will fall in line and vote Chris Christie if he's the nominee.  The Tea Party faction could care less about winning with Christie.  They want their candidate to adhere to their ideology and you will see how that plays out in 2014.  If they fail, they will probably go third party.

2.  All those potential isses mentioned in "Double Down: Game Change 2" could completely derail his campaign once given the national scrutinity.

Christie gets the nomination but would lose in the fall

3.  He's a bully and that will not play well in many parts of the country.  Also, that type of personality against Hillary or any other female; would swing all the liberal/moderate  votes to the female candidate.

4.   He's fat.  Simply put, we all see how the job ages the President in Office.  Well, Reagan was already aged.   Look at Carter, Clinton, Bush Jr and Obama from when they took office to when they left office and in Obama's case how he looks now.   People will ultimately decide Christie isn't healthy enough to hold the office.

I could never figure out why Virginia holds an election for their highest position in an off year.

It has always smacked of trying to limit voter turnout to me.

VA, NJ, KY and I think one other state does that.  KY and the other state will have their next election in 2015.  Most states hold their elections for governor during midterm years and the rest during Presidential year.

Please, Rush, make Cruz the R nominee.

Or Cuucinelli.

Yeah, no question that Bill Bolling would have absolutely destroyed McAuliffe.

Of course, if the Demos had nominated someone better than McAuliffe (anyone, basically) it would have been close between them and Bolling, because Virginia really is a true swing state.

And of course, if the Demos had nominated anyone decent and Cooch got the GOP nomination, Cooch would have been massacred.

What this election came down to was that a crappy Democratic Washington Insider is currenly slightly more popular than a crappy Republican ultra-conservative.   Not sure there are any lessons to be drawn here.

The Tea Party faction could care less about winning with Christie.  They want their candidate to adhere to their ideology and you will see how that plays out in 2014.  If they fail, they will probably go third party.

Nah.  That's what they say they will threaten to do, but in reality, they will all go in the booth and pull the GOP lever, just like they have always done.   They will rationalize it bay saying that they had to vote AGAINST Hillary.

That's what I mean when I say pragmatic.

Christi hold many ideological views which he would try to implement which are controversial and unpopular in his State.

That's why I think he's more of a conservative than a pragmatist.    But I see your point;  compared to the house GOP who don't compromise,  Christi's willingness to reach a political agreement could be seen as pragmatic.

How many of ya'll pushing Christi will actually vote for him??

Not me.  But I'm not pushing him either.  Just observing.

I'd rather have a Democrat as my President than Christie, but I also sure as hell would rather have Christie as my President than a loony like Rand Paul or Ted Cruz.

Careful, I used this line of thinking to change to vote as a Dem against Hillary last time.
