So apparently the Chiefs are now reaching out to NDN tribes too.

Don't the Chiefs fans do that controversial tomahawk chop chant? And don't most of their fans wear the sacred headdresses?

Yet no one in the media has anything negative to say about it.

Figures.

That's because the media is taking its marching orders from Harjo. She knows she needs the Redskins to change their name in order for her master plan to work. I just wish that one of the major outlets pushing this crap would look into Halbritter. Just one. I don't think Harjo's crusade would survive the backlash. Then again, I'm an optimist, so....

the backlash you speak of has already started, and it's picking up more steam everyday.  "Redskins Facts" has over 31,000 likes in just a couple of weeks.  Over 95% of the comments have been positive for the team and name.  You can count on 1 hand the dissenters.

I also love how non-fans of the team are full of "great ideas" (code for really stupid ideas) on what we could change the name to.  This might be funny to you, but it's not funny to us.  You have no emotional connection to the team, and couldn't care less.  90% of Native Americans agree, the Washington Redskins is the best name for the Football team that plays in the Nation's Capitol.

Because most in the media care about the story, not the people. Alleged racism sells, Native American causes do not. The issue the media is pushing is racism. Native Americans just so happen to be involved this time.

Chiefs fans have also adopted the War Chant moan via FSU and ATL, but they were much later to the game. "Most" is an awfully big number when it comes to their fans and headdresses, but KC fans have definitely been more associated with sporting them than us.

Heres an article about the subject from just this week. The Chiefs are taking a 'nothing to see here, move along approach' which is probably the best path at this point. The Media has covered the Chief's in the NA themed sports controversy, but the spot light has belonged to us.

The Chiefs fan pictured in this article has been around for a while. I remember thinking that he ripped off Chief Zee's style; back when I first started to notice him on tv a few years ago. I watch a lot of Redzone, otherwise I wouldn't see KC games very often.

I think this is dead on accurate.

there's no way she could go after anyone else if the fruit that appears to be hanging lowest is not plucked first.

However, the Chiefs are no strangers to the protest.. there has been the same small group outside of their stadium like there has been outside of ours for at least as long.

But like the group typically outside of FedEx and RFK before, they're very small and don't get any attention.

What looks to be a response video to the one played during the NBA playoffs.

I'm interested to see if we'll be seeing this during some of the games this season.

I'd love to see it too but I think the media's too one-sided to play it. They can't have anything screwing around with their agenda.

Silence the Stupidity: The Redskins Name Controversy

Over the past few years the name of the Washington Redskins Football team has come under attack by many groups including portions of the government and media. The claim these individuals have is they say the team name itself has historical beginnings as a derogatory or racist tag and that it offends Native Americans, even though the latest conducted voting polls of Natives proves otherwise.

Should the Washington Redskins Change Their Name?

  • No, it is being used respectfully (92%, 11,914 Votes)

  • Yes, it is offensive (6%, 744 Votes)

  • Not sure (2%, 268 Votes)

Total Voters: 12,926

Please give this whole argument another look! Here it states that " Today the U.S. government but not the Grand Council of Chiefs gives official recognition to the Oneida Indian Nation with Ray Halbritter as its representative." Grand Council of Chiefs does NOT back Halbritter! Link: http://www.frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/casino-kingpin-and-fake-indian-chief-targets-redskins/      Recently I was blessed to do a podcast with Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney who shed a lot of light on Ray Halbritter wanting to evict 100% Native American from the Oneida Nation Melvin Phillips. I was also blessed with speaking with him and that is where I was educated about Mary Maisie Shenandoah and the rest of the family Halbritter turned his back on! here is a link to what Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney brought to light! :  http://wonkette.com/531663/daily-caller-exposes-native-american-activist-as-total-white-guy-or-something-rendering-dc-sportsball-teams-name-inoffensive

OK so tradition Indian themed band uniforms are gone now. **** u Dan Snyder. St the game now. They used to have headdresses right? Now black slacks, redskins polo shirts and baseball caps.

The headdresses have been gone for a few years. Few of our fans and media have noticed.

I agree the black unis suck. I literally couldn't see the band members last nt until they had their tubas up. I was sitting in the opposite endzone, lower level, where my view of them should have been optimal. The camouflage effect is overwhelming in those dark paneled standing decks on the club level. Black is not a team color.

Back to the thread, I don't see how you can blame the band unis on Snyder after all that he's done to defend and maintain the name. You'd think he'd want the headdresses and team colors on their unis forever. On the same token, I don't believe he cares much for the band, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was unaware, or unconcerned by the uni changes. I'd really like to know who decided to retire the headdresses, and what discussion or debate surrounded that call.

Maybe the band got tired of buying them.

As far as I know, the band pays for itself and all of them are volunteers..  could be those old uniforms are simply out of the budget.

Custom uniforms or polo shirts and slacks.. which is more cost effective?

I hate to pull us off topic, but I gotta vent.

WTH should the band be paying for their own unis in 2014?

Band members contribute way too much to this multi billion dollar org to receive nothing but a free game ticket of gratitude. I get it, they're a volunteer corp and have been from day one, but still. It bothers me that the Marching Rat Birds appear to get much better treatment from their org. The sense of appreciation here is almost non existent.

back on topic, a quality headdress is likely an expensive item to purchase, thus retiring them all together was probably a financial decision more than a political stance. But again, where was ownership?

Maybe because they've always been a volunteer unit?

I don't know, but I agree, I don't really care about the uniforms, but I think it is REALLY cool to have a marching band.

It is a tradition i want to keep always, a throwback to bygone days of football.

i hope the team does what it can to help the band always stay a part of the in-stadium gameday experience.
