Springfield
Just happened a few minutes ago so I don't have a link and I'd rather not link to the video. Saw it as it happened while at work. Completely insane and outrageous. Any network that aired this piece of footage should be ashamed to call themselves a news agency. What a disgrace. visionary
Saw it mentioned on twitter right as it was happening, apparently the tv host apologized and said it would never happen again?
Springfield
Yeah, they cut away immediately. Shep seemed extremely pissed but handled it like a pro. He's a great broadcaster. It's the production department that screwed the pooch.
HooHog
It's on youtube already should anyone want to see it. Not going to link. It's not terribly graphic, but it's pretty stunning. Shep Smith looked like he was about to jump out from behind his desk and strangle the producer.
ixcuincle
Yeah, I saw it on Youtube. There's no blood, and it's noteworthy because the FOX News anchor is like "GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF! TOO LATE" Then commercial
renaissance
Um, I thought protocol was to run those kinds of things on delay. The last police chase I watched they even mentioned that footage was on a delay in case anything like that happened.

Unforgiven
I get the issue with showing it but if you're watching a car chase then you're most likely waiting for something bad to happen, this sort of thing shouldn't be surprising. Toe Jam
Nobody's perfect. These things happen sometimes. Don't think we need to be too hard on Fox News over this. Shep was obviously upset about it.
AsburySkinsFan
I've always been confused as to why car chases are considered national news. I agree with Unforgiven too, if you're watching the chase you're probably wanting to see something bad. Such is our society.
abdcskins
It's reality tv at it's finest/worst. People want a glimpse into forbidden and illegal acts. That's why shows like Cops will always get ratings.
Springfield
I think we should be hard on whatever news stations aired it. This is thousands of times worse than some nip slip during the Super Bowl. I'm not calling out Fox News specifically (I just saw it on FN) because I understand that other news outlets made the same mistake. Shep specifically was great. Smith looks absolutely disgusted. I have a feeling someone's gonna lose their job after not cutting away fast enough. And it just hit me that I just saw a man kill himself. I just saw someone die. Good lord...
Koolblue13
So what? They show **** like that all the time. The were showing video of the temple shooting a couple weeks ago. It looks almost like a video game or war. Big Bud Dwyer Deal.
Dallsux
Wow....Don't really know what to say about that. ---------- Post added September-28th-2012 at 05:13 PM ---------- I think we should be hard on whatever news stations aired it. Why is it ok to show this gruesomeness, & the gruesome things they do on shows like Bones, CSI & others, but a "wardrobe malfunction" is enough to bring in a new era of FCC regulations that makes shows bleep out words on reruns that they let go when it was originally aired, even on the same network. Yeah, I don't know why everyone watches Jim Rome talks on his show about how the local LA News cuts into programming to report on car chases Never got the cable news fascination with car chases. Then again I've rarely had cable news or watched it other than CNN.

The last police chase I watched they even mentioned that footage was on a delay in case anything like that happened. Shep said that once he got out of the car, they switched to a 5 second delay. But someone on the production crew was slow on the dump button.
HogNose
These networks broadcast these car chases for ratings and sadly for endings such as this one. I've caught myself rubbernecking when these"breaking news" car chases happen and if they end peacefully or without significant drama the anchors always seem a tad disappointed. Btw, after viewing the beheading of Nick Berg in Iraq I've sadly become desensitized to anything else.
cactitle
Agree, That was really bad. After viewing that, it takes a lot to make me squeamish. AsiaticSkinsFan
TV channels around the world show stuff like this all the time. I dont think its a comment on our society at all except that a guy decided to kill himself
XEL
Maybe it's my working with cadavers every week, but I feel like this video doesn't affect me as much as it should. and By that, it really didn't catch me off guard or anything.. It's a shame he took his own life, but this also shows what I hate about the media. We watch the news to find out what's going on around us, not to be protected like children. HA1LV1CT0RY
Perhaps a $5 million fine from the FCC is in order? The FCC has no control over the content of cable TV stations. I watched this go down live, and I had a feeling once he pulled onto that dirt road he was going to kill himself. The guy seemed delirious, like he was on pcp or bath salts.
