the actual document: http://www.scribd.com/doc/59632577/THE-MARRIAGE-VOW-document

and "Humane protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy

our next generation of American children

from human trafficking, sexual slavery, seduction into promiscuity, and all forms of pornography and prostitution, infanticide, abortion and other types of coercion or stolen innocence."

added just for extra smh:

"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-

American baby born after the election of the USA‟s first African-American President."

would love to see the statistical evidence of this. lol

So the banned porn is kiddie porn or forced participation???......and some of you object?

"all forms of pornography"

Obviously kiddie porn and 'forced participation' are already banned. Whats the point of pledging to ban that...

She's talking ALL types, even the softcore stuff they show on Cinemax after midnight! :)

I dunno guys. After reading that it sure sounds like they don't want kids exposed to porn, which I don't really disagree with. :) The pledge in general seems pretty dopey, but I think the NY Daily News was just reading that section wrong ...

There's nothing personal about using the term "religious zealot".

Especially since religious zealots are free to assume you're talking about the other guys. :silly:

Naw, just the overall laughing at Christians vibe the post had.

I usually steer clear here, but I couldn't help that one.

Even babes with guns?...is she a commie?

Must be, in fact now that you mention it I bet she is one of those Russian spies that were living here for most of their life, except she never got caught. Now they are going to enact their nefarious plot to get her elected so they can exact their cold war era revenge!

:whoknows:

Michele Bachmann famously called America under President Obama a "nation of slaves."

Then she got into trouble for suggesting that the Founding Fathers "worked tirelessly to end slavery." (She meant John Quincy Adams, the abolitionist president who was 8 years old when the Declaration of Independence was signed.)

Now the Minnesota Republican has signed an Iowa Christian group's "Marriage Vow" that reads in part:

"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President."

The pledge, prepared by the Family Leader group, also commits signees to banning pornography and same-sex marriage. She is the only presidential candidate to sign it so far.

To Bachmann's detractors, the language on slavery represents a misreading of history. Apart from the intimation of better conditions in the antebellum South, the vow seems to overlook a brutal historical record of African-American slave families being broken up for sale.

I surprised she didn't sign a pledge for death for homosexuals, like her preacher calls for on a regular basis.

Hetero-liberation theology can't be used against her. It's the rules.

Besides, if she's elected, she'll just throw the preacher under the bus, and quit going to church all together.

There's no way that is the case. Sarah Palin would have seen it all going down from her house, gotten her gun and kicked her ass.

Here's an actual copy of the vow, for anyone who is interested:

http://www.politico.com/static/PPM187_marriage.html

The actual Family Leader site is throwing a Bandwidth Limit Exceeded error :silly:

I added the numbers for reference.

Honestly, these are pretty normal social conservative talking points. I think the banning pornography bit from the article is stretching the truth. All I can find in the vow on that subject is point 10, and that talks about it in the midst of a number of other wrongs against women.

she talks about banning porn in the context of protecting women

Michelle Bachman must be a supporter of gay porn then

"Selling is legal. ****ing is legal. Why isn't selling ****ing legal? You know, why should it be illegal to sell something that's perfectly legal to give away."

- George Carlin

Porn AND prostitution should be legal. As long as nobody forces you to participate or watch, your rights will have been protected.

Not trying to hijack the thread but you did bring it up.

You do know the president still goes to church from time to time, right? :)

Amazing how some of the loudest advocates for small government advocate big government when it comes to moral issues.Take big brother o0ut of business, but put him in the homes of everyone I don't like.

2012 presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann releases her first ad, calling herself “the unifying choice that will beat Obama.” --- (unifying choice) :ols:

The thing that continues to make me hopeful about our country is the fact that a crazy rightwing dolt like this has no shot of actually ever winning a general election.

That's what I thought with Obama. Even the Clintons thought Obama was unelectable during the Democrat primaries. Pretty much nothing would surprise me at this point.

Some advice for Bachmann, don't ever start a campaign ad with "I'm not a witch".

I just don't understand it? It is such a small base that cares what you do in your own bedroom.

Or that the guy visiting you in the hospital is your lover seen daily vs. 3rd cousin you haven't seen in 6yrs.

You have now secured the vote of the 11% that would have voted for you no matter.

And you've alienated another 20% that check you off as alien.

Just pointing out that I, personally, live in a state where 60% of the voters voted to amend the state's Constitution, to not only prevent gays from marrying, but to prohibit the state from granting them any status similar to marriage.

Because the Republican Party wanted to get out their voters.
