China
New Policies Exterminating Teen Mall Rats On Friday and Saturday nights, at an increasing number of malls across the country, teenagers are being forced to bring along the one person they'd most likely rather leave behind: a parent. Dozens of malls now have what they call a "parental escort policy," meaning teens under the age of 18 have to be with a parent or guardian who is 21 or over to enter. Most shopping centers have these restrictions only on weekend evenings, but some keep them in place seven days a week. The Mid Rivers Mall in St. Louis, Mo., started sending away teens at the end of May, and it has resulted in both more customers and sales. After a month, overall mall traffic was up 5 percent on Friday and Saturday nights, and sales were up 3 to 10 percent in all categories, including teen-oriented retailers, according to the property's management. GibbsFactor
Guess they'll have to go back to sitting behind their computers or go to a high school football game or gasp... play outside.
Reic
I work in a mall, it is astounding to see what some of these kids wear at the mall without their parents around. A few weeks ago two young teens were wearing bikini tops around.
Duckus
That is fantastic. Here in Austin we have a local chain of movie theaters called "The Alamo Draft House." As the name suggests you can eat and drink while watching the movie (amazing food and real prices too - $3-5 burgers/sandwiches, $2 draft beers, none of this $10 popcorn, $6 soda bull****). Anyhow, they have a 18+ policy for all movies. On Saturday and Sunday during the day, they have special times for kids movies. But otherwise, 18+. It is fantastic. It is really annoying when I go back home and go to the movies with my parents and half the theater is filled with 16 year old fools who wont shut up.. I went to see Shutter Islands with friends there for spring break, had a few pitchers and some awesome pizza, 18+ is awesome, it was very enjoyable. SonOfWashington
A few years ago, the mall around here enacted this policy. I wasn't too thrilled about it, but now that I'm 18 I don't really give a ****.
Corcaigh
Kids these days ... they should just have sex and drugs behind the stadium bleachers, like previous generations.

zoony
We tend to get it mostly backwards in this country. First of all, driving at the age of 16 is a joke. The driving age should be at least 18. Anyways, it all starts to go badly with the driving decision. From there, we allow kids to work and to drive places and go see movies with their friends and hang out at malls, etc. The rest of us suffer because of it. I'd like to see a whole lot more of this kind of thing throughout the country.

zoony
universal driving age: 23universal drinking age: 16 sign me up! Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but either way I think that makes more sense than what we have now. At minimum- if we're going to ask kids to go and take a bullet for us in Afghanistan they should be allowed to drink a beer.
MattFancy
At minimum- if we're going to ask kids to go and take a bullet for us in Afghanistan they should be allowed to drink a beer. I've been saying this for years! At 18 you can buy cigarettes, buy porn, gamble, live on your own, get married, fight in a war, go to jail, drive, etc. But you can't drink a beer? How in the world does that make any sense?
