M. Shanahan Calling plays?

i haven't read that, but if its true (not saying it isn't, i just hadn't heard that yet), its probably because shanahan decided that.

not because ceratto took them away to give them to a guy who hasn't been involved in the league for a few years. and, furthermore, they probably wouldn't have one guy calling runs, another calling passes, and a 3rd that calls 4th downs.

and that would be why its a completely different situation.

Because Zorn tried and failed in his first sting as a head coach and was replaced by a bingo caller.

Shanahan is an established coach and has his son, a proven offensive coordinator, calling the plays.

I'm really not sure how you're drawing parallels between these two situations. Shanahan didn't have the duties taken from him because he stunk, he's allowing his staff to work and he's focusing on being the head coach.

Was it necessary to refer to Sherman Lewis as "the bingo caller"? I find it disrespectful. Prior to his retirement in 2004 he had an accomplished NFL career.

Sherman Lewis spent thirty-four years as a coach, but had been out of football since the end of the 2004 season before joining the Redskins mid-way into the 2009 season, where he replaced head coach Jim Zorn as the team's offensive play-caller after the sixth game of the season. He attended Michigan State University as an undergrad and later received his graduate degree from Michigan State in education administration.

Lewis began his football career at Michigan State as a halfback. He was named to the College Football All-America Team and finished third behind winner Roger Staubach and runner-up Billy Lothridge for the Heisman Trophy in 1963. His professional playing career included parts of the 1964 and 1965 seasons with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.

After a brief career as a professional football player, he was hired as an assistant coach for the football team at his alma mater, Michigan State, from 1969 through 1982. He went on to become the receivers coach for Bill Walsh, under whom the San Francisco 49ers won three Super Bowls. Subsequently, in 1992, he became the offensive coordinator for Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Holmgren.

Who gave Zorn grief when his playcalling was taken away? People were giving him grief BEFORE they were taken away and for good reason.

How soon we forget;)

This is a weird thread.

Scenario 1: You are a manager. One of your employees specializes in a certain area and you decide to make the decision to delegate one of your responsibilities to this person in order to best utilize the varied skill-sets at your disposal for the betterment of the organization. You inform your team of this.

Scenario 2: You are a manager. One day your director comes into your office and tells you that he doesn't like the way that you are performing one of your duties, strips you of it, and gives it to one of your employees against your wishes. He then informs your team of this for you.

The end result is the same with regard to who is performing the duty, but the scenarios differ greatly in terms of respect for the manager and proper chain of command. Shanny would be delegating; Zorn was marginalized. Thats the difference.

Who is Plays and why is Mike Shanahan calling him?

"Mr. Telephone Man! There's something wrong with my line."
