The Random Thought Thread (Stadium Edition)

So I was in PG County for a funeral today - less than 10 miles away from FedEx Field. Since it was on the way back to PA, I'd swing by and just take a look at the stadium as I haven't been there in 16 years. I was so excited about going to that 'Skins game as a boy and I didn't really take time to take the stadium in ('Skins won that game, by the way - 20-17 over the Rams).

So I came in by way of Landover Road and came up to the lots and as soon as the stadium came into view, something struck me about it: unless you looked very closely, you'd never know the 'Skins played there. The facade is very colorful - there's no doubt it's FedEx Field as the arrangement of purples, oranges, and greens testify but until you drive around to the other side of the stadium, you really have to look for anything having to do with the team that plays there every autumn.

Now I know RFK wasn't painted purple and gold when the 'Skins played there but it was concrete, multi-purpose facility where a baseball and football team played. FedEx Field is (apart from the odd soccer game or concert) the home of the Washington Redskins. You go to M&T Bank Stadium and there's no doubt who plays there 8+ times a year.

I'm really glad you bring this up, thank you. I wonder this alot when watching and when ever they get a camera shot out side of the stadium I don't notice anything about the Washington Redskins..other than the fans dressed up there's nothing about the exterior of that stadium that shows the Redskins play there.

I always thought that a team of FedEx drivers played flag football there as the primary team, the 'Skins just leased the stadium a few weekends a year...

My first game at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium - while tailgating I bumped an unopened bottle of Jack Daniels off a buddy's pickup tailgate. In doing so, I christened the stadium name proper.

I would rather call it Raljon Field than Fedex. I always hate the stadium name sellout. Cap Centre.  MCI Center. Verizon Center. Capital One Center.  PPG Paints Arena - what a dumb ass name that is. **** the penquins. It's our time to unfurl the banner dammit. I wish Willy could be there.

Pretty much the norm these days - though it's strange how often that happens while tax payers are still left with a healthy chunk of the bill.

Can't wait for someone in the porn industry to buy a stadium. Lol.

I am heading to New Orleans for the game on Monday Night and I am curious what the best ticket option would be? Stubhub, Craigslist, Scalper? Any other suggestions?

I am no road warrior but making the long trek I would suggest you go with a reputable source - presume stubhub is best.

But know I live in fear of counterfeit tickets after being burned before. It was back in the late 1990's (impressive at the time).

Represent and have a great time. Report back!

I actually just got stationed to Hurlburt Field near Pensacola, FL and a roadtrip to New Orleans should only take about four hours.

On a side note...The only other time I have been to Nawlins was when Virginia Tech played Florida State for the National Championship. This trip should be waaaaaaay different because I will visiting with my wife and daughter so the memories we create on this trip shouldn't be as hazy as my previous trip.

Anywho...back to ticket purchasing.  I am thinking about going with a seat in the nosebleeds. I tell people that I like to see the plays develop but deep down I am really a cheap ****. I found tickets on the 50 yardline in the upper deck for $85 but I have also found lower level seats for $275. I am really on fence on which seats I should choose.

I bought tickets to a Bucs game from a season ticket holder through fb marketplace,, HE met me and showed me his ticket and his season ticket holder letter...my ticket was next to him...Cool guy, awesome seat, 2nd row on the ten yard line, saw RGIII driving down the field for Novak kick to win it.

Coming in late here, but check out seatgeek. Cheap seats are $50, decent cheap seats under $100.

It will be like 8 years before we play there again, so it could be a once maybe twice opportunity, If it were me Id splurge for the lower level and live it up as such. My 2 cents anyways.

I actually went to ticketmaster and found a decent ticket in section 645 Row 18 for $78 which is near the 50 yardline. I am happy to sit with the commoners and pray everyone is down to earth and not a psychotic fan like I was in my early 20's. I am sure karma is going to rear its ugly head...

I just walked into founders farm in Tyson’s and Morgan Moses rolled up behind me with his wife and kid. Didn’t say anything to him though cuz I wanted to respect his privacy.

Last year I ran into Jon Allen and his (at the time) girlfriend (now wife) going into Game Stop in Tysons corner.  It was between training camp and the season.  I said “Hail to the Redskins and Roll Tide.”  He laughed, girlfriend gave me a high 5.

I think as long as you don’t interrupt, or ask for anything, a friendly hi is typically ok.

PS: I’m not an Alabama fan.  But thought he would appreciate it.

I read that ESPN has started logging Pass Block Win Rate and Pass Rush Win Rates.

They have data all the way back to 2016!  Yippee.

What took the internets so long to try to compile "advanced" NFL statistics?  There are only 20 weeks to a season, and teams only play once a week. It all seems rather simple to track these things.

I feel like the NFL should be the easiest sport to track advanced analysis/metric data due to the stop and start nature of the game. Pick a play, get a group of people to look at each player or position/area of the field, and track away. It isn't like Hockey or Soccer where you have a constant flow of action.

Each football play is a bunch of small individual battles all contributing to the outcome of said play.

Corsi. Is your team better with, or without you.

What's ironic, is that our beloved football is the most popular sport, yet seems to have the least amount of effort put into stats. Finally, now there are multiple sites taking a stab at it.  Even ESPN is trying.

It's nice to see Kerrigan and Trent on the list but that is not really a huge surprise.  I wonder if Kerrigan is better early in games, or later.
