Don't let some ass hole keep you from doing something for your future. There's plenty more recruiters where he came from. A lot of them are so worried about their quota's they concentrate on the easy ones, the ones who just want in and don't care what job they get. The get so wrapped around the numbers they lose track of what's important and that's putting good people in the military.

I'm here to tell you now the AF is begging for folks to come in. Our numbers are down and we need good people. What kind of job are you looking at? Just keep in mind just because you scor high doesn't guarantee you the job you want. The AF is going to try to put you where they need you, bottom line. If you want to go into a job that's not hurting for people you're not going to get it. They've got people in line to get in so they're going to put through those people first.

You have to keep in mind that they hold all the cards and you really don't have a lot to bargain with unless you score like a 100. Seriously, let me know if you're still interested and I can ask some questions about the jobs they're pushing right now. I have a good friend who's a recruiter in Winchester and he can get me the answers.

I know it's personal to you but I promise it was nothing personal for the AF. It's a numbers game and these guys are constantly pushing to get their quotas. Again, don't let a single incident keep you from an opportunity at free school, a learned trade, great benefits and stability. Especially in today's economy. It's never too late and I can say from experience since I'm currently working at an AF Technical training School, older more mature recruits have a much easier time adjusting to AF life than the 18 year olds fresh off the teet.

I hear what you're saying and it registered, I understand. PCS, I feel you, too. At this point though it's a little late because I've already set in motion the process of getting the education I wanted in the Air Force. I already have two jobs now and am studying for my associates in computer networking. After I finish the A.S.S. I'm moving back to the DC area to get my Bachleors in Information Security Systems.

I've also prepared myself for the fact I'm going to most likely need a security clearence to get to where I want to be: penetration tester for the DOD. I already know I gotta get certs, but I really just want to go home right now. I want to help protect my country, but I've already taken the path to doing it from the civilian side. I know it's going to be harder then going through the Air Force, but I'm so looking forward to going back to DC. A lot family not doing so well right now.

Thank you, though. I know you would've made it work.

Nice to see this thread.

US ARMY

63T10D3H8 (mechanic, Bradley Specialist, Recovery Specialist)

1986-1991 E-5

basic training at Ft. Lost in the Woods

AIT Ft. Knox

stationed at Ft. Hook Texas 2/5th Cav 1st Cav Division.

did some time in Gulf Storm but never saw anything but the sands of Saudi. I did get to go on Reforger and Coldstar and NTC twice.. Reforger was pretty cool as I ended up driving the battalion commander around the whole time. Coldstar sucked, Korea in late January and early February is simply no fun.

I went in primarily to get some help for college, but ended up with a lot more than that.

Army 1989-1994 and 1998-present. Originally joined for college money, then went back and stayed because I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. Still trying to figure that out. If I wouldn't have had a break in service could have retired a few months ago...now have 3 years and change left.

20+ and counting! Don't plan on leaving anytime soon unless the right job lures me away. 18+ years in Civil Engineering, Structures specialist. Anything that goes into erecting a structure we do, carpentry, masonry, duct work, welding. We do it all. My original AFSC was Metal Fabrication specialist. Then in the early 90's the combined us with carpenters. We are now comprised of what used to be 5 different jobs.

Currently First Sergeant for the Structures School house in Gulfport MS. We share tech training with the Army engineers and Navy Seabees. Loving life taking care of the AF's most valuable resource, it's people. It's even more special to be mentoring and molding my replacements since these young Airmen are going to school to learn the job I've been doing almost my entire career. Good Stuff! I love the Air Force!

Technically not in the service yet, but I am an ROTC student (Marine NROTC).

I've always wanted to be a Marine, but I've recently thought about doing VA National Guard instead. (National Guard should have been a poll option btw)

if thats the case, why not join the marine corps reserve? i joined a unit right out of high school cuz i still wanted to go to college. got deployed anyway, but i got to serve, got to go to school and got to be a marine. worked out well.

I asked westbrook to take out his word Faggotedy as it is very offensive to certain people, especially those who served our country with honors....here is his response. Thought I'd PM a request rather than make it an issue on the board, but **** it.

The thread is on like the 5th page of the tailgate. No one will ever see it again. Also, you likening faggotedy to a racial slur is funny albeit disingenous at best.

"People like you who want to change other people's behavior based off of what offends YOU is hilarious and what is wrong with America. You want me to edit my post because it offends you? Even though you know that it offends you and you never have to read it again unless you choose to? What a joke. Grow up, toots."

Not asking you to change a behavoir, be bigoted all you want. and you call me toots? and I'm the one who has to grow up? sad sad little boy you are.

Am I the only person who thinks its lame to post a PM?

I dont agree with the use of the word faggoty but I take issue with you reposting a PRIVATE message.

6 years Air Force. 2001-2007. Made it to E-5.

I did 2 tours overseas. 8 months at Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan. And i did 5 months in Turkey.

I arrived to my first duty station after bootcamp on Monday, September 10th, 2001.

I'm so proud to have served.

It's hard enough/confusing the first few days at your first duty station as it is. Then for this to follow, wow.
