USA 1997 - 2005

Left service as a SFC (E-7).

I was a 35R (Avionics Radar) until I made my E-7 when I became a 35W.

Fort Jackson, SC for Basic

Fort Gordon, GA for AIT

Fort Benning, GA for Airborne School

First duty assignment was Ft. Bragg, NC (1997 - 2000) 82nd ABN

Camp Eagle, Korea (2000-2001)

Fort Bragg, NC (2001 - 2005) 82nd ABN

Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan (2002)

Initial Surge into Baghdad (early 2003)

Al-Taqueddum, Iraq (Fall of 2003 - 2004)

I got out in 2005 because during my last deployment to Iraq, I lost one of the best damn soldiers that I ever had the priveledge to serve with (RIP SPC Nathaniel Johnson) and I had a hard time dealing with it.

I now work for the government (GS-12) and my deployments are much shorter (90 days).

Happy Memorial Day to everyone (from Baghdad).

I served in the USAF from 87-93.

I was a 208 -- linguist.

Went to DLI for German / Russian -- then the cold war ended and we no longer had a need for German linguists. Seeing as my wife at the time was an Arabic linguist, I followed in her footsteps and studied Arabic at DLI. Then on to UAE.

I flew on a C-130, Compass Call -- electronic combat :)

Now I'm an auditor in public accounting -- not much Arabic practice.

By the way, MIA, you were at Goodfellow? All linguists (most anyway) went there for advanced language training. Did you ever eat at Zentner's Daughter?

1997-2004

US Army, Counterintelligence Agent

97-01 Hawaii Resident office

01-04 1st Information Operations Command

I got out as a SGT.

I got accepted to TSCM school but my branch manager wanted to be a butt and send me to Alaska. So I got out.

Now I am a GS-13 and working for DIA and very happy. Although I do miss the Army sometimes. I have debated about going to the Guard if they give me a direct commission.

I was at Goodfellow from late Oct 2000 to early May 2001. And no I never ate at Zentner's Daughter. I do remember the chow hall or as the Air Force calls it "The dining facility" was very good, especially coming out of Army basic ;)
