#98QBKiller
Anyone use Kaspersky Antivirus? This seems to be getting the best reviews on the web so far for 2008...if you do use it does it slow your computer at all? I've had McAffee and it does slow the computer a little bit and I've heard the same about Norton. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. http://www.consumersearch.com/www/software/antivirus-software/
Zguy28
AVG Free Edition on my home PC. From Grisoft. Trend Micro PC-Cillin if I was going to pay for one. We use Trend's Officescan corporate Edition at my work. Its good stuff. Although if you ever have to call support, its in the Phillipines.

Mass_SkinsFan
I have Norton. By no means should you EVER buy this antivirus! NEVER EVER INSTALL IT ON YOUR COMPUTER! That's interesting because I have Norton Internet Security installed on my PC and it's the best AntiVirus/Firewall program I've ever run. It's simple, straightforward and hasn't given me a bit of trouble in the year I've had this computer.

PSUHeckler
http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/82713 --- just was out today on yahoo. I personally use AVG and spybot. I don't think there's any reason to spend money on virus software nowadays.

Jumbo
Seems that there are usually many differences even among knowledgable people and actual experts. The current issue of PC mag rates Norton as #1 overall and strongest in almost all parameters, with Zone Aalrm as #2 and itgives Panda a nod on best spyware and firewall. This is out of 14 top suites tested. In another mag it's MacAfee #1. And everytime there's a thread on here you will read some who say both suck. I've done my share of experimenting and work/have worked where security matters, but I am definitelty not close to being any authority. I have had good results lately with running free avast/spybot/adaware having had the full Norton suite 06-07. IMO, large percentage of problems is related to usage, though. I don't surf a bunch, no on-line gaming, rarely download programs, don't cruise porno, don't open e-mail unless I know the person, etc. I have had two attempted virus attachments in two years, both detected, though I am online a lot for work and ES, and a little for other stuff. I recently updated my spybot with a trial of their for sale expanded offering and it's been cool to see the spyware attempts in real time by appearance of the box instead of just sweeping them up every other day. That way I get a picture of which sites you frequent are most infested. For my limited adventures they usually are my comcast home page, yahoo main page, and imbd. I have been using Comcast dsl, IE6-7 (firefox is great but IE7 is fine too, for me), for some time with no crashes, hackings, blue screens etc., just for background. #98QBKiller
Well I just picked up AVG and cruised a few sites checking out how it operates. Looks fairly user-interactive which is something I like. I went into the user interface and checked it out, pretty damn good so far. Is it necessary to download spybot or another anti-spyware program to accompany AVG?
.Guy.
I use Sophos. It's a corporate antivirus but my school offers it for free. Its fantastic. Gets better reviews than Norton and McAfee and doesn't cause a performance hit. The problem with Norton and McAfee isn't that they don't work. It's that they leave a massive footprint. It's like a guest in your house that occupies space in every room of your home. There are plenty of other AV apps that work just as well and leave a very small footprint. AVG has become a bit of a resource hog of late but they still don't bog down your system as much as the big 2 do. For a free program it does a remarkable job. But if you're going to pay for one then go with NOD32.

I never have had any issue with it slowing me down, and it detects stuff viruses and trojans sent to me by folks who use McAfee and Norton.
