2017 - 18 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals Thread

Just as a casual observer, was looking back through the Caps playoff run this year so far. They had two OT (one of which was a double OT) wins in the Columbus series, and a Ovechkin goal very late in game 3 and a Kuznetsov goal in OT in game 6 to beat the Pens.  However, even though the Lightning series went 7 and went the topsy turvy way of Caps winning the first two and last two, just seems like no one game in that series had the real suspense at the end of the game in so far as a late goal to win it.

For the SCF finals, what do you think will happen in that regard, especially with Holtby and MAF showing great stuff recently. Consensus seems to be Caps in 6, but how many of the games do you think will go to OT or be decided by a goal in, say, the last 10 minutes?

It's really hard to say all of this still seems so surreal

They sample size vs. Vegas is so small there was a lopsided loss in Vegas I never saw on HTS and there was the "super Sunday " game where I think the Caps had a real chance but if I remember Vegas pulled it out late

I'm thinking there will be one ot game and Caps pull it out 4-3 to tie the series at a game each

I just hope that the Stanley Cup finally gets here some how some way no matter how many ot games it takes

If this goes 7 games it will only be about 2-3 months before the Caps have to report back to training camp for the 2018-19 season wow

That is a crazy aspect of the winter sports compared to football. This series will be over in the next week or two but before you blink the next season will have already started. Meanwhile, we are waiting forever for the Skins 2018 campaign to get underway.

That video up above is awesome.  I love seeing the locker room stuff that goes on after big wins.

Anyone know the story behind the motorcycle helmet?  Looks like it had some stuff taped to it.

Yeah all the videos the Caps channel puts out on YouTube are awesome like that. I'm waiting for the round 3 recap video, which will be just like that one but including all the games, to come out so I can post it here. Chances are we will be watching that video the rest of our lives along with hopefully one more round 4 SC victory recap. I posted the Penguins series recap video recently in this thread too if haven't seen that one.

The video actually confirmed what I thought and it was Beagle that hit the empty netter. It was reported by the broadcast and in the box score in highlight packages as Backstrom scoring.

Listening right now to NHL on Satellite Radio.

All tney have have talked about for an hour is, how TB lost and what they think and how Vegas is going to beat us.

They probably did the same thing when we played Pittsburgh and Tampa.

Caps have enormous self-belief right now. They are not going to panic if they get down in a series. I wonder if you can say the same thing about Vegas.

Actually, of all the NHL writers on NHL.com., only 2 had the Caps and Knights in the Stanley Cup from the beginning of the playoffs. Both those writers picked the Caps.

Question: What do Detroit and Washington have in common?

The Capitals announced that Capital One Arena would be open for Games 1 and 2 for watch parties.

I have been thinking about this...Vegas has fallen behind in series, they looked lost in Game 1 of the WCF against Winnipeg...then won 4 straight. Kind of like Tampa against Boston. Tampa lost game 1 against Boston, then won the next 4. And we know how that ECF played out.

Vegas hasn't fallen in 0-2 holes, worst they've fallen behind is 0-1. I think that was the only time they even trailed a series all season.

Yeah, they did lose home ice against San Jose in a double OT game where Vegas had scored a goal in OT but it was called off due to goalie interference, and it tied the series at 1.  Vegas won the next game in SJ but got shut out in game 4, but then won the next 2. Game 5 of the SJ series was interesting in that Vegas was ahead 4-0 with around 11 minutes left, but then SJ scored 3 goals within 6 minutes to make it scary.

I can see this series sort of being one a bit opposite of the Tampa series, which went the distance, but the games weren't particularly close from a "decided late" standpoint. This series I can see a lot of games being tied late, but may wind up going, say, only 5 games before one team wins 4. My gut tells me that team will be the Caps, but who knows. I think the first two in Vegas are critical. If the Caps can steal at least one, I can see them riding the momentum for the rest of the series. But if Vegas takes both, I can see them riding it.

I’m watching game 7 again on my DVR and man our puck support was unreal. Not only are we having 1-3 guys around the puck at all times, but we’re straight bodying dudes around the crease and stifling any chance for follow-up shots.

Other than the one breakaway, every time the Bolts got the puck in there own zone, they had multiple layers to try and navigate. It was brilliant defense

Kind of clever, I guess its on.

Allways thought this city would be a cool place to visit sometime and never had any animosity towards the city or its sports fanbase

With this series now all of that just changed forever

You definitely should visit Vegas if you haven't been. Pretty tough not to have fun there.

Cant see how there should be any animosity between the two fanbases. Vegas is in a different conference so it's not like there is going to be a longstanding rivalry with the Caps. Think it's cool that Vegas has embraced this team......the winning has surely helped, but cool that their practices are apparently always packed as well. I think the Vegas fanbase relationship with the expansion Knights is going to be different than when the existing Raiders come in 2020. Vegas may also get an NBA team relatively soon, and they are building a new ballpark for the AAA team there.

Just wanted to check in to see how everyone is doing in here. Everyone feeling good? I'm on my honeymoon in Italy and had to stay up till 5am (2am start) to watch the Caps advance to the cup final. Definitely worth it, but grateful for this layoff to get a few more nights of sleep before Monday. Feels weird to have a break from hockey knowing there's more to come. Can't wait
