Incredibles 2. Grade: A. Its like the first one on a ****tail of steroids and amphetamines. Blistering pace will have you digging your fingernails

into the armrests (which I was doing for the entire latter half of the movie).

I don't get it. Disney has the talent to make an animated movie THIS good, but they can't make a good Star Wars film?

Drop everything you're doing and go see this movie. Best movie of the year so far (and yes that includes Infinity War).

Just saw "A Quiet Place". Grade: A-. Awesome movie. Give it a little less than A because I thought the Aliens were kind of weak

(I'd like to see ONE humans vs aliens movie were the aliens are given an ounce of intelligence :P). But other than that, fantastic.

Felt like a great sci-fi short story of old. And I could watch anything with Emily Blunt in it. ANYTHING. An infomercial. A telethon.

A Ken Burns documentary. She is just SO damn sexy and hot (seems to be getting sexier and hotter as she gets older too).

Not really a movie I'd like to see again, for some reason. Not in the near future anyway. But as a one-off, it was fantastic.

Saw Incredibles 2 again. Gonna downgrade it slightly to a final score of A-, because the first half the movie is kind of a slow burn.

But the second half is a Bruce Lee roundhouse to the head, and also this is one GORGEOUS film to look at. Pixar has really raised the

bar yet again with this lavishly beautiful movie. Highly recommended.

I saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom today.  Go Blu.  There's a brief underwhelming clip, after the credits.

I thought the movie was okay, definitely inferior to Jurassic World and it felt like it was more of a setup to Jurassic World 3.   I felt their was some parallels to "The Lost World".  I'll give the movie a B- .

Saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom yesterday.  I’ll give it a C-.  The last movie had issues, like a weak plot, but at least it flowed well and was a fun ride.  This one really dragged at certain points and made the movie feel longer then it was.  There were so many call back scenes to the original Jurassic Park I just kinda rolled my eyes.  The villains were cartoonish and I thought the twist with the little girl was pointless.  Movie just served as a setup for Jurassic World 3.  I mean the trailers showed how this movie would leave things with the dinosaurs.

No Way Out, the 1987 Kevin Costner movie.  Solid B.  Holds up decently well.  Gene Hackman is a good bad guy, I've always liked him.  Sean (Laces Out, Dan!) Young is annoying and must have been hot in the late 80s, I didn't really buy her as the female lead.  Good twist at the end.

You give that a B? Tough crowd. Its an A- in my book -- killer story,  and a young, hungry Costner in this one. Thats one of my favorite movies from the 80s.

That movie was the first time I ever saw boobs.  :)  Solid flick too, having seen it as an adult.

Life of the Party.  I love Melissa McCarthy, and she's done some really funny movies.  This was not one of them.  C.

Game Night was a lot funnier than I was expecting.  Rachel McAdams .  B.

Blockers was pretty damn funny.  Always like Leslie Mann and Cena/Barinholtz were pretty good.  Laughed hysterically several times.  B.

Watched Annihilation again.  I enjoyed it a second time around as I knew what was coming so I could pay more attention to the subtleties and background stuff.

Spoiler

The bear scream "help meeee" scene is one of the freakiest things I've seen in a long time.  Holy ****.

Sean Young kinda ruined it for me.  And the whole part where he introduces himself to her at the ball and then 30 seconds later they're hooking up in the limo...kinda dumb.

Other than that, great performances all around, especially the creepy Will Patton.  The ending got me, didn't see that coming.

Tomb Raider (newer one) - 8/10 - much better than I expected and it made me go out and buy the Rise of Tomb Raider game that I completely missed.  The chick that plays Lara is way better than Angelina Jolie ever was and she is a badass.  Very gritty movie.

Pacific Rim Uprising - 8/10 - more of the same which is a good thing.  I would have given it a 9/10 if the acting wasn't painful for much of the movie, but it's just a fun movie and the last half of it is like a non stop battle that is just awesome to watch.  Great sound and special effects.

I just saw this too and really enjoyed it. I thought the acting was great, especially considering the lack of lines. It reminded me a lot of Signs as there was an alien species who had a "hidden" weakness that just needed to be uncovered.

You're right, it's odd that in these types of movies we have aliens who apparently are sophisticated enough to get here but not capable of establishing any type of society or dominance once they are here. They just kind of "infest" the planet. You would think they'd have more of a plan than to attack things they hear. In this case, it was well over a year after they had arrived I think.

Wonder and I loved it. I was an elementary school teacher for 13 years and have been working with kids since I was 17 so this was right up my alley. It's not a cinematic masterpiece or anything... solid as a movie but if you like kids and are looking for a feel-good kinda flick, I recommend.

I agree with that one. Both my kids read the book and we saw it recently. I teared up a couple times. Great, heart-felt movie.

I just saw Black Panther (yes, I've been living under a rock). Grade: A-. Would have been one of the best Marvel movies I've ever seen if not for the ending, which I thought was kind of weak. Micheal B Jordan stole the movie -- he was so great as Killmonger, he even upstaged Chadwick Boseman in the lead role. Overall, one of Marvel's better efforts.

Quote

A newly released prisoner is forced by the leaders of his gang to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California.

This is available on Amazon Prime streaming. We watched it yesterday and what caught my inerest was Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones. He shines in this movie and I'm glad to see him in a leading role like this. I hope this movie opens the door for more opportunities for him because I was impressed with his performance in Shot Caller. It was raw, heartfelt, chilling, brutal and terrifying.

The movie description above doesn't do it justice so I'll elaborate. The movie opens with obvious gang heavy Money (Nikolaj) being released from prison and meeting up with his gang as talk of an upcoming deal looms. We can see that he has quite a bit of power and respect in this world. Then we are given flashbacks to a clean cut Money as a stockbroker family man around 10 years ago. The movies is extremely compelling as we are given repeated flashbacks showing a little more each time of how a guy that had everything went to prison and turned to gang life as a means of survival contrasted with his current status as respected gang leader. It's a pretty haunting look into the prison system and the impact it can have on both lifelong criminals and those that are bystanders caught up in the machine. Each little flashback provides more insight into a pivotal moment of Money's life, the reason he went to prison, his first night and how that shapes his mindset, his fist gang task etc.

I wasn't expecting a lot from this movie but i couldn't look away and I was thinking about it long after the credits rolled. Excellent movie.

Finally watched the original Sicario.  Pretty damn good.  Del Toro is always entertaining.

One of my favorite movies from the year it came out.  That eerie music playing over the caravan of Tahoes entering Juarez gave me goosebumps.

Second one isn't rated nearly as high, but probably still worth a watch eventaully.

2015 was a great year for movies and Sicario was up there with the best of them. Somehow, 2016 was even better and is probably my favorite movie year of the last decade.

I waited so long to see it because I’m really burned out on “HOORAH/Gun Porn” stuff these days.  But after enough folks roll their eyes at you and you look at the cast/reviews, you gotta step up and I’m glad I did.  It’s not your typical action flick...there’s a lot of depth and character development and Villeneuve works it all in beautifully.

Also, I could watch Blunt and Del Toro play Jenga for two hours and be entertained.

Saw Sicario 2 the other day. It was alright but I felt the original was better. Still entertaining and you can sort of predict; what will happen if there's a third movie.  Give the movie a B-.

Watched "Tau" on Netflix. This lady is held captive in a house with an AI named Tau. Interesting movie. I'll give it a B- also.

Saw "Sorry to Bother You" and "Blindspotting" last week. Ironically two Oakland based films which both got love in the festival circuit earlier this year and may be Oscar contenders.

Sorry to Bother You is a dystopian version of modern America. Stars LaKeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson and was made by The Coup's Boots Riley. The movie is about this guy who works as a telemarketer and is struggling to make ends meet, and the community is. He discovers his "white voice," and it leads to him rising in the company and doing work that is dangerous. There are sci-fi elements as well. This movie is great because you come in thinking its about race, but its really about something deeper and different. Danny Glover, Arnie Hammer, and a bunch of other prominent actors are in this but its really focused on LaKeith Stanfield's character. This is one of the funniest, darkest, and amazing movies I have seen in a while. The trailers do not do the film justice and even my synopsis doesn't. It is outstanding.

Saw "Blindspotting" the next night. It was written by Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal, two lifelong friends from Oakland and Diggs was in Hamilton. This film is about a gentrifying Oakland, police interactions with black men, dealing with life as a convicted felon, and who is actually the "black stereotype." Really fascinating movie, well written. Diggs was able to do his raps as well. I kind of liked this movie more than Sorry to Bother You because it had a bit more tension in it and was relate able. The final scene could be one of the best of the year. Also outstanding.
