Brandon Banks: Clash Time--Should He Stay or Should He Go? (MET)

I think it's time. Banks is bringing nothing to the table on returns or offense. I would cut him this week and let others handle returns. In terms of the option back, we could use someone like Robinson...he might have more ball security anyway.

Our offense is progressing to the point where we don't have to pray that we return punts or kick offs for TDs. The most important thing about our return game with RG3 under center is to get the best field position you can and not fumble.

Maybe, maybe not, but we are using him on offense and defenses have to account for him.

If you cut him who are we adding?

I don't care. Add an OL or DB and hope you find a diamond in the rough. Do you believe that people have to account for Banks more than they'd have to account for Moss or Robinson in the same position?

Re: Billy Cundiff Cut, replaced by Kai Forbath

Hell, if the kickoffs are a concern.... then cut Brandon Banks and sign a kickoff specialist. Trade 1-for-1 on special teams unit.

The way kickers are kicking off to us -- through the end zone -- Banks has been nullified. No sense keeping him on the roster to return punts. We can find someone else there.

Can move Paul to special teams. Morgan can also return kicks.

Both have kinda shaky hands though.

Not that I want to see it anymore for fear of rg3 safety, but banks wasn't bad in the option o when getting to the edge

When? Has he done anything that someone else in his position couldn't have done? I'm not being snarky, but I remember one or two decent carries he's had in that package and I don't think he's done anything more than take what was there. The kicker for me is that sooner or later he's going to lose some of those fumbles.

Dude is an absolute waste of a roster spot.

Not to mention there's a good chance he'll fumble when hit. Dude has blazing speed, but can't take any contact. He's too frail. I'd much rather see someone like Robinson get a crack at returning kicks in his place. Robinson can at least contribute on offense.

fantastic both as a threat and a decoy on some of those weird triple options and other formations. still convinced he could take it to the house on a return as well. not sure what the downside is to keeping him around. it's not like there are dudes who would otherwise contribute points getting benched in his stead.

They utilize banks differently than moss and Robinson in a different way. Moss has the experience, iv been kind of surprised how we've utilized him (banks). I think it adds a different dimension (and I think it could help him succeed), but when a play goes his way and nothing happens then more negative stuff comes up (he hasn't done anything in the return game, his small, he fumbles etc....). Heck Briscoe dropped a wide open pass.

Anyways, he will get his opportunities to make plays. We may see something, I think he will have his moments, but maybe the consistency isn't there yet?

I don't understand how you can draw this conclusion on Banks. He had 1 punt return he was able to field today, and there was nothing there. He is neutralized on K/Os because kickers won't even take a chance. They clear it to the back of the endzone.

And as for the pistol formation, his mere presence freezes the defense and opens up lanes for the run/pass/draw option

Just not sure if the pistol formation is any more effective than our read option with Morris in the backfield. It's a nice wrinkle, but I think Kyle is using it too often for minimal (if any) results.

By my eyes I just don't see Banks' speed as being game breaking in anything other than a sprint. Moving laterally (which he does far too often on returns these days, and must do when catching a screen) his speed is completely mediocre.

Might be time to move on, I agree.

I think they are trying to get Banks more involved in the offense the past few weeks because he is being evaluated. Brown comes off PUP soon and they will need a roster spot. Santana Moss is good enough in small spaces to evade some tackles and can handle that pistol/swing pass crap we did today. Also, Aldrick Robinson is plenty fast enough to stretch the defense that way...and on kick offs/punts.

get himgone.

He's useless on offense.. today Winfield took him down literally with one hand. Big, huge 188 lb Antoine Winfield looked like he was playing football with a child.

Add another fumble and I'm done with him.

Imagine if we had Percy Harvin back there in the triple option. We need a real threat running the ball back there. Hopefully that can be a priority this off season.

well until the vikings are offering that trade, banks is or best option at that position of that formation. with rg3, the defense has to defend against two guys who are quicker than anyone else on their side of the ball.
