I have posted the same thing. In addition the upgrade at center and LG can not be understated. However the one concern I have is Daniels' sack to pressure ratio was terrible, he has the same traits as Howell (and Maye for that matter).

I think the line is improved as well, and I’m not too worried about the P2S rate until it actually looks to be a problem in games.

The reality is: MOST O Lines in the league are bad. You talk to fans of every team and almost every single one of them will tell you how much their OL sucks. I think the only fan bases happy with their OL are the Lions, Chiefs, and Eagles. Maybe the Ravens and Texans also. OL play around the league sucks.

Our OL is below average but I scheme, playcalling, and an inexperienced QB who had a historically bad sack rate in college made them look worse then they are. There is no chance they look that bad again this year with an upgraded interior, what should be better playcalling(I can't imagine anything worse), and a QB that is much faster at processing and with a quicker release(who is also a legit run threat, which will change the way Ds attack us).

We currently have 2 above average caliber starters in Cosmi and Biadasz. Wylie and Allegretti are below average. Lucas, if he were to start, would be one of the worst starting tackles in the league.

You can scheme some around it but it is going to be a major issue even if you pick up one of these veteran tackles off the street

We can only hope the 2 biggest problems to are line are gone. EB and Nick Gates. I do not think Leno had much left last year. LT still concerns me but will wait and see. Teams drafted about 20 starters in this draft so there may be some cap casualties.

The Texans went from worst O-line with 2 things. A good play caller and a good quarterback.

Leno is not as bad as people think he was. Yes he got absolutely owned by Thibodeaux but he played decent football against most other teams. 73 PFF grade and gave up 3 sacks on the season per them.

The 4 biggest differences (IMO):

I believe Kliff will cater the offense to Daniels to some extent

I think we’re going to run the ball a lot (more)

Our IOL should be much improved

Our defense should be much better, minimizing the need for hero ball

Some little things:

Quick release from Daniels (combined with good feet)

While our pass catchers are mostly the same, I think Ertz and Ekler will be a bit quicker to separate than Logan and Robinson

Running the ball and PA should give Terry and Dotson more time on their routes

Some things that concern me (beyond our tackles and Daniels’ frame):

Daniels p2s ratio

Terry and Dotson’s low separation numbers

Daniels playing with a lesser offensive supporting cast (relative to their competition)

How will the offense come together, particularly the scheming/play calling coupled with a rookie qb

Long story short, my hopes are fairly high (though not at the tackle spots), but my expectations aren’t.

The OL needs help, it’s not good.

It’s also:

1. Not as bad as people think

2. It’s now at least marginally better than it was last season

3. And it was never as bad as Howell and poor playcalling made it look last season

4. Because, does no one remember how much better it briefly looked with Brissett? Similar to the 2013 OL under RG3 and then Cousins.

5. And our offensive staff, player personnel, and playcalling really can’t get worse—I’d even go as far as to say we can expect it to easily be better.

6. Which will help accommodate the remaining weakness in the OL, because remember, this post has never been about claiming the OL is actually good, or claiming it’s not a problem.

7. Just that it’s not AS much of a season-destroying code red as people are making it out to be.

8. Because better personnel is already achieved. Better QB play is achievable, and should be expected*. And better playcalling is achievable, and should be expected**

*no offense to Howell as a young, growing player but he was one of the worst QB’s in the league last year, efficiency-wise.

**because it really couldn’t get worse than what EB was doing last season. You don’t even need to like or believe in Kliff to assume this happens, because EB called a historically stupid offense, on top of it being designed poorly.

NOTE: I still very much hope some decent veteran OT’s are released for us to try to sign. Again, I am not arguing things are fine or even close to ideal. Simply saying that Daniels is not guaranteed to die and derail our season before it begins like people are acting. The talent is already improved, even if marginally. The scheme and play selection can help a ton. Daniels being talented as hell can help a ton, even baking in his status as a rookie. Even as it stands right now, this will not be a historically bad OL or something—it wasn’t even as bad last year as people think when you take into account the playcalling and QB play.

Great post. Everyone should keep in mind that the O line weren’t he only players who underperformed under last years circus tent. Look at Terry, Dotson, and others. The entire D basically. I don’t think any of them are nearly as bad as they looked last year, including the O line. We all know we could use more help at tackle, but all the positions on the line have been at least somewhat addressed already or in the case of Wylie he, like many others on the roster, deserves an opportunity to show what he can do with proper coaching/scheme. He has a track record of being a significantly better player than what he showed last year.

It’s gonna take time to put together the stellar unit we all want to see. But I don’t think the current situation is the epic disaster some are making it out to be. I’m glad Peters isn’t panicking about it and trust him to continue methodically improving every position group. Let him build things his way and not make decisions based on things that happened under the old regime where all decisions good or bad were destined for dysfunctional failure.

The o-line will limit what this team can do this year. It’s not a playoff year though the ceiling is 8-9, based on JD alone.

Actually making the playoffs this year doesn’t help much. Another year of drafting in the lower half of Top 10 will benefit us.

I expect 2025 to be the highest we draft for a long time.

The oline is a problem, I am shocked with the lack of resources used on it. We did not sign anyone in FA and really did not draft anyone of note until 3rd round.

Maybe there something there I don't see?

Good news is that the 2025 draft appears to have some tackles. We need that, a premier EDGE, a CB1 and an elite offensive weapon.

We tried at least twice to trade back up in the 1st round to grab our LT, but they were denied.....other teams wanted dibs on that instead.

I understand that and it's good not to over pay but they have to do something. If the line is as bad as it looks to be Dainels becomes David Carr. It is concerning because it was the team biggest weakness last year and still is.

Everyone and I mean everyone on this fourm has agreed the oline is a major problem especially OT. The last thing I want to see is the new NYG front four injuring are new Qb because we have no oline.

I knew were ****ed when I saw reports before the draft about "the worst kept secret" that we were going to trade back up into the first round.    Other teams had the memo out on us and were going to badly fleece us at that point.   I think it was the right thing as we wouldn't have gotten the players we did if we gave up the farm.

I agree at this point I just want them to over pay for a slightly over hill vet for one year so we have someone above average out there. I don't want to miss out on that. If we don't get that there nothing left.

O-line is definitely still a concern but losing EB's ridiculous offense is addition by subtraction and oh, idk, maybe not throwing the ball 70+% of the time with essentially a first year QB will help as well.

Certainly not going to discount those factors but they do need comp/depth there and a legit starter at LT. I have hope for Coleman, he does look like a tackle, but it would be very surprising if he was starting game one.

I can’t say I’m optimistic about this oline, but to be fair, we did bring in 3 FAs (though I can understand if one considers Lucas’ inclusion as a technicality).

Coleman a good pick. Fits the athletic oline profile team looking for. He may be LT of future not next year. I wanted Mims, a vet, and Coleman. Mims was to expensive to trade up for fine.I guess what I like to see is sign a Lt vet one year over pay or prove it deal to get through the season. This has been and is team biggest need.

You do know that one of Daniels's strengths is going through progressions right?

We signed a good Center and a potentially good Guard in FA, so that’s not accurate.

Lucas is actually decent at LT... he even plays well at times. The issue with him was that when pressed in to a full time role, he cant stay healthy and now at 32 that will be an even bigger issue. Leno was overrated as hell, Lucas might actually be an improvement. I think we have enough pieces (including those drafted last year) and Olineman i expect the team to yet bring in, to put together a half way decent OL. We might be in for a lot trial an error lienup changes early in the season though

That is true they have spent on some.on the oline, but the big problem is and has been LT.

while I agree we need a LT, I don't agree that LT was the biggest problem with our line. the biggest problem has been, imo, left guard and center and I'd say our RT play was worse than LT.

This draft just proves how empty the roster was and how piss poor of a talent evaluator Rivera was. Anyone can get lucky/unlucky on a few picks, but to miss on that many takes a severe lack of systems and processes.

Peters did well given the circumstances and why I feel Harris isnt expecting a fast turnaround in 2024.

Im not worried about the oline yet because I already knew going into this year that there was no feasible way to fix this team in one off-season.

They upgraded Center, Left Guard, and drafted a developmental guy that probably wont even see the field until 2025 or beyond.

Next draft will be Left Tackle, Cornerback, and Pass Rusher upgrades.

Im pleased with what they did so far and expect a team I can be proud of on the field, even if the wins dont accumulate right away.

I am hoping for the best and expect to be much better.  However, there was plenty of money and draft capital to address OT more than they did in FA and the draft.

Please don't let this be a rerun of last year when Ron didn't do enough.

Maybe in FA period 2.🤞
