Almost time for some gopers to jump into the race against Donny.

Supposely John Bolton is in and will jump in. Who else?

Biden probably announces after his state of the union speech

Nah, I don't think anyone with a real shot jumps in for a bit still. You might see some wannabes along with Pence who is getting terrible advice. MAGA hates you, and Independents/Dems aren't going to vote for you. Who is your audience? Your former staff? Sounds like his wife wasn't really a fan of his after he ran with Trump.

Mother has the final word on Pence. She allowed him with #45 with hopes that he'd be out in 2020 like he was. Now her saintly boy can turn the US into a theocracy. Except he doesn't really have a chance in Hell and she won't let him get humiliated. So Pence is out, retired to Indiana.

Trump Shouldn’t Pick Tulsi Gabbard as His Next Veep

Should Donald Trump win the presidency at age 78, he will be constitutionally limited to one term. What this means is that anyone invested in a post-Trump Republican Party should have more than just a passing interest in Trump’s selection of a running mate.

Among the smorgasbord of bad options on the veep menu, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has reportedly made the short list of possible Trump running mates. The renegade ex-Democrat from Hawaii stands out as perhaps the most plausible choice—even if her selection would spell trouble for both Donald Trump and the conservative movement.

Remember, Gabbard served as a surrogate for democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and endorsed Joe Biden in 2020. As recently as September of 2019, she explained to podcaster Dave Rubin why she is now pro-choice and no longer pro-life.

Now, you may think that it is quaint to worry about ideological purity. After all, a lot of conservatives feared that Trump—a former Democrat who invited Bill and Hillary Clinton to his wedding and financially supported their campaigns—would govern as a liberal. Instead, he governed as a maniac.

Still, thanks to those fears, Trump was forced to take steps to mitigate that impression and earn conservative support. He released a list of potential Supreme Court nominees. He picked Mike Pence as his running mate. These choices mattered. It is entirely plausible that he would not have won otherwise.

Selecting Gabbard as Trump’s running mate in 2024 would send the exact opposite signal to conservatives. (And no, I’m not talking about Never Trump conservatives. I’m talking about the ones who held their nose and voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020—the ones who might be more inclined to pull the lever for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2024.)

Trump was a moral, ethical, and electoral disaster for Republicans; but—thanks in large part to groups like the Federalist Society and Sen. Mitch McConnell—he delivered on Supreme Court judges.

Can the conservative elites and infrastructure pull off that maneuver twice? I’m not so sure.

Matt Gaetz says Trump should pick Sarah Huckabee Sanders or Kristi Noem as his running mate to get votes from women who don't like him

Matt Gaetz thinks Trump should pick Sarah Huckabee Sanders or Kristi Noem for his 2024 running mate.

Gaetz said Trump should run with a woman to get votes from women who don't like him.

Gaetz theorized that Trump only won in 2016 because women who didn't like him still voted for him.

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz says he's told former President Donald Trump to pick a woman as his running mate if he wants to win in 2024.

"What I've said to President Trump is like, you have to create a permission structure where women who do not like you vote for you again," Gaetz said on the conservative "Timcast IRL" podcast on Friday.

Why Ron DeSantis Won’t—or Shouldn’t—Run for President

Donald Trump cannot accept rejection. Donald Trump is fueled by vengeance. And this is why, as of now, it would be foolish for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president in 2024.

It is fashionable these days for pundits to guffaw about Trump’s declining influence within the GOP. In polls asking Republican voters to state their preference for next year, DeSantis often beats the former guy, occasionally by a hefty margin. Last month, Trump, who in November announced his third White House bid, hit record lows for his approval rating among all voters (31 percent) and GOP voters (70 percent). Axios noted, “A raft of new polls shows former President Trump is losing juice among core Republican voters—a rare but unmistakable drop in base support that would jeopardize his 2024 comeback bid.” Trump’s own supporters and allies mocked and scorned him for his grifty NFT trading card venture. (Fortune reported this week, “The trading volume of Donald Trump’s Digital Trading Cards, which feature images of the former president dressed as a superhero and as an astronaut, has fallen off a cliff, according to data from CryptoSlam.”) Trump is “fading fast,” former GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan told CNN on Thursday. “He is a proven loser.” Yes, Rep. Kevin McCarthy fulsomely hailed Trump for helping him (barely) prevail in the chaotic House speakership contest. Even with that, the conventional wisdom is that Trump is trending in the wrong direction. With a touch of glee, New York Times columnist Charles Blow observed days ago, “Donald Trump is essentially being put out to pasture” by the GOP.

Yes, but. And this is the but: Trump remains dangerous. To the nation, to the GOP, and to DeSantis and other potential Republican rivals. That is because, as January 6 demonstrated, if Trump cannot be king, he will burn down the palace— with everyone in it, especially those who denied him the crown.

Why Ron DeSantis Won’t—or Shouldn’t—Run for President

Although I agree with the author's basic premise, that Trump will make life miserable for anyone that dares challenge him, I am already very annoyed with pundits who cast this as a Trump v. 1 Person issue.  The author only mentions the critical thing in one sentence, and it is this:

Quote

If other credible contenders beside DeSantis show up for this free-for-all, the we’ve-had-enough-of-Trump vote will be divided.

Trump won the GOP primary in his first run because he consistently got 1/3 of the vote, but the other 2/3 was split among 5-6 people.  Ted Cruz won the Iowa caucus, then on Super Tuesday, Trump got 2.95 million total votes while Cruz/Rubio/Kasich combined to get 4.95 million votes.  But those other 3 canibalized each other and Trump kept his 1/3 so Trump won 7 or the 11 states.

Same thing will happen again if 8-10 candidates enter the fray, and it sure looks like that is going to happen.  In addition to Trump and DESANCTIMONIOUS, it looks like Pence is in, Ted Cruz only exists to run for President, Youngkin has ambitions, Greg Abbott keeps pulling stunts to appeal nationally, Mike Pompeo keep showing up in Iowa and there are probably a few others that might just say **** it, why not?  Tell me the difference between Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott?

Republicans seeking permission from women should be considered a sign of progress.  Good for them...

I think you will see big field intially but that field will shrink by the time we get to actual voting. Will it have shrunk enough, we’ll just have to see.

Remember the Dems had a big field but it shrunk drastically by the time voting happened.

"Why should X run for President..."  People should run for President because they have good ideas, want to help the American people and are committed to the voters.

I don't see anyone who checks those boxes in 2024. Call me cynical, jaded, or realistic but the American people thinking that voting for Dems or GOP will fix the country when both trot out small minded, rejected, tired ideas is ridiculous.

Right now one party is pretty much continuing to come for Democracy and the other one is kindve meekly whining about it...

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but

this is not creating a permission structure.

creating a structure is about giving people a reason to do what they want, but otherwise wouldn’t because of other pressures (like social pressures)

it’s not about doing something you don’t want to do.

Trump trounces DeSantis in potential GOP primary match-up, new poll finds

Former President Trump holds at 17-point lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in a hypothetical GOP primary match-up, according to a new poll.

A Morning Consult poll released Wednesday showed Trump with 48 percent support among potential Republican primary voters, followed by DeSantis with 31 percent. Trump’s front-runner position differs from some polls since the November midterm elections, which have shown DeSantis closing the gap with Trump or taking a lead in some cases.

Former Vice President Mike Pence came in third with 8 percent, followed by former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) with 3 percent. Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) both received 2 percent.

Dem Senate Hopeful Mocks Josh Hawley Over Porn Comments in Campaign Ad

Lucas Kunce, the Missouri Democrat who announced his commitment to ousting U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley in an ad on January 6, wants everybody to notice the Republican's seeming obsession with pornography.

In a new campaign ad, Kunce asks, "Want to help Josh focus on the issues that matter to him?"

The question flashes onto the screen 42 seconds into the 60-second spot, during which Hawley can be heard saying "porn" or "pornography" 18 times.

In the preceding 41 seconds, the advertisement focuses on Hawley's seemingly non-stop discussion of the perils of pornography.

Kunce tweeted a video of the ad along with the comment, "Josh Hawley is always focused on the issues that matter most to him. Like..."

Great idea for a campaign ad. The next one should concentrate on his insurrection activities.
