Ron DeSantis' Campaign Is Imploding

aving previously been touted as the GOP's next presidential hopeful, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' White House bid has been floundering over the past few months, with even Republican figures casting doubt on the future of his campaign.

In late 2022, DeSantis was seen as the ready-made replacement for Donald Trump to lead the Republican party at the 2024 Election. The former president was widely blamed, including by those in the GOP, for the party's poor midterm performance, and continues to face prosecution in a string of criminal investigations.

However, DeSantis has failed to take advantage of Trump getting indicted in both the New York falsifying business records case and Special Counsel Jack Smith's classified documents investigation, where the former president has denied 37 charges respectively. DeSantis has not made any traction in the GOP primary polls while also seeing his favorabilty rating plummet.

Just 35.9 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of DeSantis, compared to 45.2 percent who say they view him unfavorably as of June 29, according to FiveThirtyEight's national average tracker, although experts point out the campaign is still in its early stages.

DeSantis's unfavorable rating among potential voters has been steadily rising since late March, when he recorded a split 39.3 percent favorable rating. This includes the time after he confirmed his 2024 bid in late May in an error-strewn Twitter Space online announcement.

DeSantis' favorability rating also arrives at a time when the Florida governor, who has signed several anti-LGBTQ laws during his tenure, was criticized by a Republican group for a presidential campaign advert as being "homophobic."

Why Ron DeSantis is emailing his supporters about men getting pregnant

Ron DeSantis flooded his supporters’ inboxes three times this week with the subject line: “Do not tell my children that men can get pregnant.”

Nikki Haley branded several fundraising emails as a response to former president Barack Obama, contrasting his comments on race with her own vision.

And then there is former President Donald Trump, who was largely focused on his own legal travails, which have proven a successful fundraising motivator for him in the past.

The Republican presidential candidate’s appeals for cash came fast and heavy ahead of a key fundraising deadline this Friday. And they revealed the issues that are motivating small-dollar Republican donors to part with their cash.

Emails that rail against President Joe Biden, “wokeness” and the left were most common across the field, according to a POLITICO analysis of more than 200 emails sent by presidential campaigns in the past month. There were still plenty of yard signs and apparel giveaways, too.

Small-dollar fundraising has long been a strength for Trump, the 2024 frontrunner. But the language used in fundraising emails also provides insight as to how the other candidates are trying to distinguish themselves online.

DeSantis has leaned heavily into the culture war issues — which have become central to his campaign — such as the repeated emails mocking the idea of men getting pregnant. Some transgender men do become pregnant. DeSantis also sent more emails mentioning “woke” than any other candidate.

  • 88Comrade2000 changed the title to Election 2024 & Presidential Race- Prisoner Trump vs Dark Brandon Joe

I find it amazing that you can make the crux of your campaign on a culture war and then choose the least popular side in every possible battlefield and think that is a good idea.

What on earth would any reasonable person think would happen here? Does the board have become deeply unlikable? ding-ding-ding!

All Ron had to do was be the "sensible alternative to Trump" but no, he's gotta try and be more Trump than Trump. The RNC would have bent over backwards to platform the guy given what frumty-dumpty is going up against.

Absolute clown show of a campaign. Dude's opponent has been indicted multiple times, is under active investigation, got charged w/ a sexual offense and he's still losing ground.

Its like God himself is lobbing picture perfect alley oops and poor old Ronny can't even find the mesh point. It is embarrassing.

Its worth noting that in today's GOP, these are considered positive character features.

Trump pulled in more than $35 million in the second quarter

Donald Trump nearly doubled his fundraising during the second quarter of 2023 — an indication that his legal troubles are propelling his campaign financially.

The former president’s joint fundraising committee raked in more than $35 million, according to a campaign official. That figure is about twice the $18.8 million the committee raised during the first quarter of the year. The joint fundraising committee is split between two entities: Trump’s official campaign, and his leadership political action committee, Save America.

The official did not break down how much of the $35 million-plus went to the campaign and how much went to the PAC. But the most recent fundraising solicitations direct 90 percent of each donation to the former and the remaining 10 percent to the latter. The PAC focuses its spending on non-campaign activity, including paying the former president’s legal bills.

The total amount raised is likely to further cement Trump’s status as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. It also underscores that the twin indictments he’s facing — with the possibility of more to come — are mobilizing his base of online donors. The average donation was $34.20, according to his campaign.

Amazing thing is, he really doesn't need to spend much in the primary at all. Just keep asking for money and using the free media he gets to go after whoever.

Article is paywalled, so only got to read the beginning.

Even though Biden is only four years older than his likely opponent in 2024, it's naive to think that his age isn't going to be concerning to voters next year.

And Joe has a big ego, as does everyone who reaches the top of their respective profession, and thus its understandable that he'd want to give it another go. That said, I don't think he'd be running for reelection if the opposing party had broken their Trump fever.

I'm working on an article for the Atlantic too.

Step Aside, Donald....and try a salad.
The former president has no business running for office at his age and weight.

I don't think he'd be running again if there was a decent candidate.

I mean, the decent candidates also probably realize how difficult it is to go against a sitting president. Ted Kennedy tried to primary a beleaguered Carter in 79-80, to which Jimmy responded "I'll whip his ass." And did so. Trump isn't even a sitting president, and should be regarded as the loser he is, but has the GOP voting base under his thumb.

I would think Newsom and Whitmer will at least be strong contenders for the 2028 Dem nomination, regardless of what party wins the presidency in 2024. It'll be interesting to see who is chosen for the keynote speaker for the convention next year, as we saw both Clinton and Obama's standing propelled.
