Democrats warn of massive GOP turnout in November

"MAGA surge" in the midterms that will benefit Republicans, Yahoo News Chief National Correspondent Jon Ward reports.

"Democratic consultants are telling party donors that while the shifting political landscape will give their candidates a fighting chance this fall, they are likely facing a huge increase in Republican turnout," Ward writes.

"The 'MAGA surge' is real," said a presentation for donors by America Votes, a Democratic group that coordinates get-out-the-vote efforts.

"Democrats know that they are competitive in many races that might have been blowouts a few months ago, for a few reasons: The Supreme Court's decision eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion, as well as ebbing gas prices and a string of legislative accomplishments by Democrats.

“BUT," warned the presentation, which was provided to Yahoo News, "what we’re up against: GOP turnout will be very high."

"Democrats expect this 'MAGA surge' largely because turnout in Republican primaries so far this year has been sky-high, just as it was in 2021."

The term "MAGA surge" might be something of a misnomer — the presentation didn't specify whether the GOP's votes would be coming mostly from hard-core supporters of former President Donald Trump or more moderate Republicans. The presentation also didn't delve into why Republicans have been turning out in droves.

It did, however, warn that Democrats will need to embrace traditional means to get out the vote, such as door knocking, and not just rely on an improving national environment. As Ward notes, "In 2020, Democrats stopped meeting voters in person at their homes, out of concern over the spread of the coronavirus. Republicans did not, and in states like Texas, Democrats concluded afterward that Republicans turned out more voters than they had in part because they had not been going door to door.

Far-right activists have a brilliant new strategy: Don't vote!

Ali Alexander, a key organizer of the "Stop the Steal" protests that led up to the Jan. 6 insurrection, declared this week during a livestream appearance that he probably won't vote in this year's midterm elections. As Right Wing Watch first reported, Alexander said that Republicans had failed to adequately "court" his or his supporters' vote and that conservatives might be better served by "strategically losing" rather than "a win that cannot be sustained."

Strange as this may seem, he's not alone. With this declaration, Alexander joins a handful of far-right activists, including white nationalist leader Nick Fuentes and failed Florida congressional candidate Laura Loomer, who are discouraging their fans and followers from voting as a rebuke to the GOP.

The trend began in August with Loomer, a self-declared "proud Islamophobe" and white nationalist who, after losing the Republican primary in Florida's 11th congressional district, delivered a bizarre speech in which she refused to concede ("because I'm a winner"). The following day, she urged her supporters not to vote for the Republican who defeated her, six-term incumbent Rep. Daniel Webster, in the November general election.

Facebook says it took down China-based accounts that tried to interfere in the U.S. midterms

Facebook parent company Meta said Tuesday it took down a network of fake accounts from China that attempted to interfere in American politics ahead of this November’s midterm elections.

Meta said the Chinese operation set up fake accounts posing as Americans, attacking politicians from both parties and posting inflammatory material about divisive issues such as abortion and gun rights.

The network was small — just 83 Facebook accounts — and did not have a chance to develop much of an audience, Meta said in a report released Tuesday.

Republican Herschel Walker invokes Jesus to dismiss holding a gun to his wife’s head

Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker is still facing questions about domestic violence as the election nears.

One of the first stories to come out about Walker's past was that he abused his former wife and at one point held a gun to her head threatening to shoot. Walker also admitted that he would play Russian roulette. In fact, he told ESPN's Highly Questionable that he'd played it "more than once." He loved the competition of it, he said.

The violence and abuse continue to be a topic from those speaking to Walker, but the Heisman trophy winner continues to dismiss it as unimportant.

Speaking to Atlanta based "Rolling Out," an entertainment site, Walker explained it wasn't anything more than a sin.

“You know, he without sin cast the first stone," Walker said, quoting Jesus in John 8:7. Walker went on to attack his opponent, Rev. Raphael Warnock for being critical of his "sins" from 15 years ago.

Typically, one's past comes into focus when one runs for political office as a sign of judgment and leadership, and attempted murder is not generally brushed aside in political campaigns as nothing more than an everyday "sin."

Sitting on their heels?

If the Dems want to keep control of the Senate, they need to win Georgia and Pennsylvania. Holding GA and flipping PA. 50-50 gop flips Nevada, so Dems needs to flip a state. If they keep NV, then it’s +1.

Thing is it seems like they are sitting on their heels in GA and PA and not doing much. They seem to banking that because the gop nominated 2 bad candidates; they are a lock to win.  That isn’t the case. Fetterman and Warnock need to pounding the pavement to ensure they win.  If they just do little; they will wake up to see they have lost.

Especially, in this Trump era; nothing is a lock.
