The Trump Riot Aftermath (Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes found guilty of seditious conspiracy. Proud Boys join the club)

Proud Boys memo reveals meticulous planning for ‘street-level violence’

Document of 23 pages shows the lengths to which the far-right group goes to prepare for potentially violent encounters and exposes the militaristic structure and language it has adopted

The document is so dowdy and formal it resembles the annual minutes of a society of tax accountants. Its index lists sections on “objectives” and “rules of engagement” and carries an “addendum” that provides recommendations for hotels and parking.

On the cover, two words give a clue to the notoriety of the group that produced it: “MAGA” and “WARNING”. That and the date: 5 January 2021, the day before the US Capitol attack.

What goes unsaid on the cover and is barely mentioned throughout the 23 pages is that this is the work of one of the most violent political gangs in America, the far-right street fighters who Donald Trump told to “stand back and stand by”: the Proud Boys.

The document, published by the Guardian for the first time, gives a very rare insight into the meticulous planning that goes into events staged by the far-right club.

The document was obtained from a Proud Boys member by the extremism reporter Andy Campbell as he researched his new book, We Are Proud Boys: How a Right-Wing Street Gang Ushered in a New Era of American Extremism. The book will be published on Tuesday. Campbell shared the document with the Guardian.

In the wake of January 6, which has been linked to the deaths of nine people, the New York march featured in the document was called off and the strategy so fastidiously laid out was never implemented. But the document remains sharply revealing.

It shows the lengths to which the Proud Boys go to prepare for potentially violent encounters and then to cover their tracks – something prosecutors have stressed but that has never been seen in the group’s own words. It exposes the militaristic structure and language the Proud Boys have adopted, and their aspiration to become the frontline vigilante force in a Trump-led America.

It also provides clues as to how the group continues to spread its tentacles throughout the US despite the fact that many of its top leaders, including its national chairman, Enrique Tarrio, are behind bars awaiting trial on charges of seditious conspiracy.

Aren’t most of them basically getting brought up for trespassing? I get that some charges are heavier for others.

but trespassing isn’t exactly worthy of revoking bond… and just because ****ty people turn out to do additional ****ty things isn’t a good excuse for it either.

if they wanted to keep them locked up they should have brought heavier charges.

They take cats back to jail for missing a meeting with their parole officer. Uneven application of the law, specifically against poorer folks, is the American way. And rather I agree with them or not, this looks like it can fall into that category.

AT THE SAME TIME -- **** this people in particular. They tried to over throw the government. My attempt at being the bigger man pretty much stops at attempted insurrection. The truth is.... they know these dumb **** suckers are stupid enough to do **** like this when they let them out. And sitting and waiting for them to do it is easier and more effective than bringing higher charges.

edit: thanks for nothing @purbeast

Stable genius indeed...

Donald Trump is back at Mar-a-Lago and raging about FBI agents not taking off their shoes while searching his bedroom

On Sunday night, former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to fume about the FBI's raid of Mar-a-Lago, accusing agents of not taking off their shoes when searching his bedroom.

Trump announced earlier on Sunday that he would "soon be heading" to Mar-a-Lago. He wrote that he wanted to see "the unnecessary ransacking of rooms and other areas of the house," adding that he felt "totally violated."

Several hours later, Trump said he had arrived at his Florida residence and "had a long and detailed chance" to look around the property. He claimed in his post that the FBI's lawful search of his property was a violation of his Fourth Amendment rights while lamenting that his home would "never be the same."

"It was 'ransacked,' and in far different condition than the way I left it," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Many Agents - And they didn't even take off their shoes in my bedroom. Nice!!!"

The next argument for Trump supporters will be that Dearie has a conflict of interest and should recuse himself. Even if there's no reason for him to do so:

Will Special Master Dearie Face Carter Page FISA Conflict of Interest?

https://www.newsweek.com/will-special-master-dearie-face-carter-page-fisa-conflict-interest-1744612

"...according to some commentators, Dearie might yet face difficulties of his own, associated with his involvement in previous investigations surrounding the former president.

Some have suggested that Dearie's approval in a 2016 investigation of Carter Page, former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, could present a conflict of interest and prematurely end his review of the Mar-a-Lago documents.

Dearie approved federal investigators' request to investigate Page as part of the inquiry into Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Investigative journalist Scott Stedman, in a tweet posted on September 16, suggested that "there's going to be a huge problem if the Trump docs include the Page FISA. Dearie then has a big conflict of interest and likely can't continue."

So, could the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) investigation of Page derail Dearie's involvement as special master?

First, we don't know if the Page FISA records are at Mar-a-Lago. This is entirely speculative and appears to be spurred simply by Dearie's appointment.

While the FBI Mar-a-Lago affidavit revealed that documents found at Mar-a-Lago included FISA papers, that isn't a smoking gun for documents related to the Page investigation.

[...]On the face of it, it seems that even if there were Page FISA records among the documents at Mar-a-Lago, Dearie is simply being asked to judge whether the documents recovered from it attract certain privileges.

Dearie is set to wade through thousands of pages, then report back to Judge Aileen Cannon, and state whether any of the documents violated privileges that Trump's defense has inquired about.

So, not only do we not know whether there are even any documents related to the Page FISA warrant, it does not appear that Dearie would, as special master, even have to face the possibility of a conflict of interest.

Jimmy Gurulé, professor of law at the Notre Dame Law School and a former federal prosecutor, told Newsweek: "Any claim of a conflict of interest is highly speculative and overstated at this point."

"Highly speculative and overstated" are Trump supporters' specialties lol...

Well that would be pretty stupid considering Dearie was one of Trump's nominees for special master, not DOJ's.  But I wouldn't put it past them.
